One of the biggest complaints I hear about this movie, is that Apollo Creed is out of character. I disagree. Apollo has always been an extremely pro-American competitor and challenging a Soviet boxer would be a matter of pride for him. So of course he would challenge Ivan Drago. There are a lot of problems with this movie, and the next one is worse, but Apollo Creed's character isn't one of them. Carl Weathers gives 110% too. Speaking of which... Fun Fact: In order to sell Drago's killing blow to Apollo, Carl Weathers made it a point to land face first and feign a twitching motion after hitting the ground. He was so convincing that the on-set physician feared he had actually been injured. Location Location Fact: The training scenes set in Russia were actually filmed in Wyoming. The farm is located in Jackson Hole, and most of the exterior shots were filmed in the Grand Teton National Park. The fight itself was shot at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia. Rock Solid Fact: After realizing how Rocky's previous opponents (Apollo Creed and Clubber Lang) had loud and animated personalities, Dolph Lundgren came up with the idea of making his character, Ivan Drago, very stoic, not move too much and just be an intimidating presence. Sylvester Stallone incorporated these ideas by not giving the character too much dialogue and making big close ups, especially in the eyes. This wasn't done because English wasn't Dolph Lundgren's first language.

My favorite theory is that Rocky 3 & 4 are movies about Rocky in the Universe of Rocky 1, 2 & 6. That's why they're so over the top and great for completely different reasons than the others.

Good movie. Sylvester told Dolph to hit him full force. Dolph put him in the hospital. Bruised heart or something. Dolph is also a trained fighter. A lot of music. "This MTV?!" LMAO!

What people don't understand is Rocky didn't throw in the towel out of respect for Apollo. The reality was Apollo's fault for continuing with the fight and Rocki wasn't going to leave his friend, the fight wouldn't end.

The Directors Cut is better…. but unfortunately has most (or all) of the overkill montages. That drives me nuts. But it’s a better cut nonetheless. More meaningful dialogue where it’s needed. Stuff Stallone never should have cut out. And they got rid of that stupid robot.
