Mariah released her book in 2020, it became #1 best selling. Mariah became the highest paid judge when she joined AI. Mariah Carey holds the record for most streamed song in a single day on Spotify. She's now tied with Barbra Streisand as the biggest selling female artist in the US both with 65m+ certified album sales, and she's still active so she'll soon surpass miss Barbra. She's also the biggest selling international female in Japan. (Two of the biggest music market) She just got her 19th #1 with All I want for Christmas. Extending her record as a solo artist with the most #1 hits of all time. She's the most #1 as a female producer She's the most #1 as a female songwriter She extends her record as an artist with the most cumulative weeks at #1.. 80week+ and counting with AIWFCIY returning to #1 every year. She's far from over.. 3DECADES later she's still breaking and making records and history. Her numbers in streams and sales are still ahead of all of her contemporaries. And the fact that every new good singer is compared to her(calling them next Mariah, new Mariah) says she's still relevant to these days 👌 and she's still that Bitch to beat. Reigning Queen of The Music Industry.👑🦋

Vocally, the Charmbracelet Tour was arguable better than a number of her performances in the '90s. Yes, she was suffering from management issues as a consequence of her breaking away from a toxic label, but that didn't stop her from progressing through her career. She kept on making music without missing a single beat even with all the people sabotaging her. If you're saying she stumbled that hard, you must be one of those article writers manipulating the media to demoralize her, or at least you're one of their incarnations. Mariah was still selling more than any female artist (second only to Eminem) from 2001-04 with two top 3 singles and a compilation that sold 5 million worldwide. And she was in a "flop" era.
@TheGustavitou3 жыл бұрын
@@philipcohen267 this is totally false. In the period 2001-2004 there were a lot of women selling more: Britney, Christina, Beyonce, Avril, Kelly Clarkson no name a few.
@philipcohen2673 жыл бұрын
@@TheGustavitou It's always good to verify one's argument completely before trying to prove others wrong. In 2001-4 Christina: she released only 1 album Stripped and one top 3 single. Stripped sold 10M. Beyonce: released one album Dangerously In Love and had 3 top 3 singles. DIL sold 11M Kelly Clarkson: released two albums selling 9M combined and one top 3 single. Britney: released two albums selling 21M combined and 1 top 3 single. Mariah: released four albums (Glitter, Charmbracelet, Greatest Hits and Remixes) selling combined 12M and 2 top 3 singles. They all performed roughly the same as Mariah in that time period, weighing in all factors. No female singer was bigger than Mariah at that time. My argument still stands.

@@philipcohen267 I'm a Day 1 lamb, but your statement about her being the second biggest selling artist between 2001-2004 after just Eminem is flat out lies. Not only the aforementioned women Gustabo Javier stated sold a lot more (because during that specific period, Mariah's 4 albums weren't selling initially and the sales combined were between 5 and 6. They eventually sold between 10 and 12 combined in 2021), there were numerous male artists and male groups who sold a lot more, such as Nelly, 50 Cent, Usher, R. Kelly, and Linkin Park to name a few. I was in my late teens and early 20s during that era, so I know what I'm talking about because I remember it vividly.

I don’t even know if this video is still able to comprehend just how massive the TEOM era. Not only did the album sell extremely well, but WBT was number 1 for 14 weeks and blocked Shake it Off which sat at number 2. To then have DFAU go number 1 as well, for someone who had been completely written off after Charnbracelet to then have the tied second longest running number 1 song of all time (WBT) and a further two top 2 hits, is nothing short of miraculous. Mariah went from uncool and over the hump to the biggest star in the world again. I don’t think anyone will ever have such a prolific comeback ever again, truly a moment in pop culture history that will never be repeated probably!

The greatest comeback by a female artist after Private Dancer by Tina Turner. Mariah Carey went through it from 2001-2004. So many thought her career was over to the point of no return. I remember listening to the lead single ''It's Like That'' on the radio. I thought it was a very good song, but it isn't among her best and I had to buy TEOM to see if she was truly gonna end her 4 year decline. After I finished listening to it, I knew she would return to her chart-topping, award-winning days... and she did. My favorite songs from the album are We Belong Together, Say Something, Fly Like A Bird, and Don't Forget About Us. She had so many breathtaking live performances during this era, such as the 2005 BET Bluebrint Special, the 2006 Grammy Awards, and of course her 6th concert tour, The Adventures Of Mimi. There is only one Mariah Carey. #AllHailTheSongbirdSupreme

@@simonyanga9551 I think I will put Cher's Believe era comeback in 4th place below Tina's PD era, Mariah's TEOM era, and Madonna's Confessions On A Dance Floor era comeback because Madonna's Confessions Tour made a lot more money than Cher's The Believe Tour, COADF received more accolades, and its singles were more successful internationally. Though I will say Cher layed the foundation for Madonna. Without Believe, there would be no Confessions On A Dance Floor. Plus, Cher managed to get a number 1 hit song in the U.S at 52. Madonna's biggest hit song during COADF was Hung Up, which peaked at number 7.

Ray of Light was a better comeback imo. It's considered her best album & one of the best albums ever by many. She received so much backlash from her sexual image before that & Bedtime Stories was kinda slept on. People were saying her career was over & she ended up changing the musical landscape by introducing something so new & different. Her vocals are also at their best. I know American Life was one of her biggest flops, but it's actually one of my personal favourites, so I LOVED it & still do. It's so underrated imo. A true work of art with an interesting concept.
@keandrebell-washington99043 жыл бұрын
@@solongsuicide9 I don't count Ray Of Light as a comeback album because despite the backlash Madonna got from Erotica, she still achieved much success. Erotica sold 6 million albums worldwide, 3 of its singles were hits in the U.S with another 2 successful internationally, and its associated concert tour (The Girlie Show World Tour) grossed more money than its predecessor, The Blond Ambition World Tour. Bedtime Stories is far from slept on. If anything, it outsold Erotica worldwide by 2 million and is certified triple platinum by the RIAA. It even includes her biggest ever hit in America, Take A Bow. I don't know why people say Bedtime Stories wasn't successful besides that she chose not to tour to promote the album and is the ONLY studio album in her discography without a concert tour attached to it. On top of those 2 albums, You Must Love Me and Don't Cry For Me Argentina from Evita were hits as well domestically and overseas. Madonna always had success throughout the 90s. Her star power didn't start to dim until 2003 with American Life.

She gave it her all after Charmbracelet, The Emancipation of Mimi as an album was filled with everything she was as an artist. Sure, the albums before then were also her (especially Butterfly), but she definitely still felt that she still had to prove herself after all those years getting panned and criticised. Find me another mainstream album so full of high notes in 20 tracks (ultra platinum edition) and let me know if anyone else has successfully replicated what she did with Emancipation of Mimi! She was doing live promos and also touring singing all those difficult songs, and gave her all. I still love Mimi and I'm happy that she managed a comeback 15 years later into her career and so far no one else had managed to even come close to her (Confessions of a Dancefloor almost came as close). Unfortunately, her voice was never quite the same after the album. She was clearly overworked and her voice was incredibly fatigued and started showing signs of damage. I'm just happy these days she releases music for enjoyment and she is still able to show her musicianship even with songs not as insanely high as her prime. I enjoy her music and her legacy will never be diminished or replicated.

Although not a commercial mega album, I really enjoy “Charmbracelet”. It was a mellow album with soothing vocals, nurturing and subtly sly lyrics. I like it even more than when released.

Very few are able to be on top, and decline a bit, only to come back on top again. Mariah Carey, Beyonce , Rihanna, we just love to see it.

You can truly see that she's a brave woman. Battling against music industry at that time is like holding a knife to your neck. They can literally kill you anytime if you're a threat to them

I looked at her entirely differently after reading the memoir. She truly changed the game for female artists, stuff we see happen all the time nowadays, such as rap collabs, were just not the thing back then. Icon, legend, lamb 4 life

Mariah Carey's career was really proven that She's got staying power with Emancipation of Mimi. At the time, She was still considered a newer artist. I remembered that Daydream was so huge. Her music videos and look were everywhere. I thought that was Mariah Carey's best album in my opinion. Loved the Boys II Mean song from that album. I remember that all of the teens from my neighborhood had a watch party when Mariah Carey's Honey video was released. It was fire and it was played so much on MTV and VH1. So was My All. I thought Mariah Carey's really proven herself with this album. In 1999, there was so much Fanfare with her Rainbow's album. Heartbreaker was a huge video an hit. But it didn't seem to have the same impact for me that her earlier work had. I remember that we all talked about her Heartbreaker song with Jay-Z, but it had sort of a so-so release imho. Buying the actual album was a treat. I found Rainbow had a lot of hidden tracks that made it one of the best hip-hop / RnB albums of the 90s. She had some ballad music videos, but they didn't seem to get much fanfare. Her Glitter Era was so bizarre. I remember watching TRL and Every one was chatting in the AOL/AIM chat rooms on how weird that appearance was. She acted strange during that time. I didn't think it would have an impact, negatively, as it did on her career. I remember buying the album, Loverboy was a decent Hip-Hop track, but it seemed like it came and went. A lot of TV channels played Never Too Far Away, but it seemed like an odd choice for Mariah Carey to prove this as second single and video. I thought the whole Glitter movie to be lackluster. I remember a lot folks were disappointed in the movie theatre at that time. I remember thinking, what the hell is this? Sorry for my language. I was disappointed. About a year or two later, she released "Through the Rain". But Again, it was an odd choice for her to release during that time period compared to what Janet Jackson and Mary J Blige were releasing at that time. They had more up-tempo stuff. They promoted the Hell out of "Through the Rain", but a lot of friends and classmates found it to be an odd choice. So, I'm not surprised that it flopped. My barber shop would crack jokes on how corny it was haha. A few years later, I purchased Cham bracelet, and I was shocked out how strong of an RnB album that it was. It was very good! I thought the way her team handled that release was really bizarre. A lot of people, myself included, thought her best days were over for her. I remember that a lot of the big female icons all had down periods in the early 2000s. I think it was a shift to my of a hip-hop rock sound with pop music at that time. Emancipation of Mimi took everyone completely by surprise. I thought it was one her strongest looks, and it proved to me just how good she was. I remember watching her live performances', and thinking that she is really starting to hit her stride again. A lot of my friends and coworkers thought the same thing. That a huge year for her. I remember that they released Touch my Body, and she had a cool sexy new look. I honestly thought Touch My Body and E=MC2 was her best record up until that. I remember Madonna and others talking about how fresh that album was. Her marriage with Nick Cannon really catapulted her into super star status.. Too me, she's never had a bad album release since then. She also started acting in more movies and TV shows like American idol. It proved to me that she has a lot of staying power. Don't kid yourself, Mariah's short outfits were really proactive at that time sort of like Madonna's look. She also took risks. But it seems like the media more quickly forgave Mariah over the years, and I stopped less criticism for it. Great review! Love the channel, it brings back so many memories.

This video felt more like how Mariah re-built herself up after several let downs and less like a video dedicated to how The Emancipation of Mimi rejuvenated Mariah's career! I was expecting a more in-depth look at the Emancipation of Mimi era as a whole similar to your Katy Perry Prism and Teenage Dream videos.

It always amazes me how the careers of long time music veterans differ from each other. It’s amazing how Mariah’s success has mainly come through people going back to her earlier works. Her most recent hit I’d say was #Beautiful in 2013. Almost Home, You’re Mine (Eternal), I Don’t, GTFO, With You, No, etc. were all kinda flops when you look at chart performance. But, thanks to TikTok, Obsessed (single) and Glitter (album) have gained a resurgence in popularity. I honestly didn’t think I’d see her seeing any more traction. I was only about 8 at the time. So, idk how the general publics feelings were towards her. But, I can only imagine that a lot of people back then also thought she wouldn’t experience success again. She really must’ve turned the tables on ‘em! And I can’t wait to see what her next project(s) encompass. Looks like a lot of people are really supporting her as seen by AIWFCIY finally hitting #1 on the BBH100 and her collaboration with Ari and Jennifer Hudson last year. I think the GP’s embracing her again! Just... don’t put out uninspired music geared towards becoming a TikTok trend like some other artists have this year...
