Pope Francis has often said that he is a sinner, just like everyone else. He is right to apologize, as this was not the right message to send out to the unbelievers. While I agree with his decision to keep homosexuals out of seminaries, we must always remember to preserve the dignity of all human beings. I really try to pray for others whose sins are different from mine, and not to belittle or denigrate them. We are here to promote Christ's redemptive work on earth. Jesus said that sin is a sickness, and He is the physician. Those who are not sick don't need Him.

I don’t remember who said this but, Did you ever hear that this all started during the Bubonic Plague in Europe? Up until then only the very best men in town were permitted to become priests- they were basically rock stars at the time- most educated, literate, public speakers. But during the Black Death most died because the were administering last rites to the dying. Then they had to reduce the requirements for entering the priesthood and take basically anyone who was willing. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it resulted in some corrupt priests wanting indulgences. I wish I could remember who was on the video I watched. I think it was a Catholic scholar.

How would Fr Martins know if they are celibate? Do they make public the sinful activity is committed? This is a stupid statement on his part.

Maybe, in his inscrutable manner, he was calling out those whose offense might reveal something? In any event, this was charitably an imperfection rather than a sin.

If your dad has ever heard of Padre Pio, now St. Pio of Pietrelcina, tell your dad that Padre Pio said "Never Never criticize the Pope." Jesus knows what He's doing. He founded the Church. The Holy Spirit elects the Pope. Have some faith in Jesus and the Holy Spirit. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding." PS - I'm from the South Side of Chicago too. A long time ago. Hyde Park.

@joeychicago6322 Wasn’t that a group of people invited to eat with the Pope? Yeah, Pope Francis likes to copy Jesus, like when Jesus ate with prostitutes and tax collectors. Pope's Francis is a pastoral Pope. Even when he was just a priest he hung out with poor people around the slums. The Pharisees didn’t like it when Jesus did it, and they don’t like it now. I’m not sure what errs you’re referring to, because if you follow Michael Lofton, Reason & Theology, you’ll find answers to all the things the media likes to twist and misinterpret that Pope Francis says and does. Maybe Pope Francis is a little exuberant and unpredictable. Just be confident that Pope Francis and the Magisterium have not and will not change any Church teaching on faith and morals. God bless.

The Pope is infallible when he speaks Ex Cathedra. Which has only been done twice in 2,000 years. The Church cannot teach error when it comes to matters of faith and morals . This is why the Catholic Church hasn't changed a single Doctrine in 2,000 years.
