@@tabibnialawfirm actually yes he was, after the shia revolt that occurred after the gulf war, saddam arrested and tortured many shia scholars who he thought were involved in the revolt. Sistani was one of the top shia scholars at the time and feared the amount of influence he could project and so he was arrested by saddams hooligans, beaten and tortured, and his mosque was forced to shut down

Ali al-Sistani first of all he’s from Iran, and he does not speak Arabic he claims to be from the house of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and in his book he’s lineage ends on his third grandfather then how are you related to the prophet peace be upon him, you never hear the man giving lectures on TV. No one ever heard him speak. He doesn’t even advise his followers.
