The menorah symbolizes both the seven lamps of Revelations, but also the continuity of religion. Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism, and the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom has connections with the temple worship of the Hebrews - and the menorah symbolizes that connection between Old and New Testament with the middle candle representing Christ Himself. I am not Catholic, but Eastern Orthodox, and you will find the menorah in all of our Churches. Really there's nothing to be scandalized about here.

Many Orthodox, particularly those online in social media and whatnot, have such contempt and hostility towards the Catholic Church, Catholicism and Catholics as a whole - especially towards Eastern Catholics.

Please know that "Cyberdoxy" is not reflective of our parishes, or even what it means to be Orthodox. Many of those who attempt to teach Orthodoxy online would do better to look at the splinter in their own eye and go to confession than to judge their brothers. Please pray for me, a sinner!

The menorah has been a part of early Christian liturgy since the beginning, In the Eastern rites the use of the menorah has been preserved, always standing on or behind the altar in the sanctuary. Though candles may be used, the traditional practice is to use olive oil in the seven-lamp lampstand. There are varying liturgical practices, and usually all seven lamps are lit for the services, though sometimes only the three centermost are lit for the lesser services. If the church does not have a sanctuary lamp the centermost lamp of the seven lamps may remain lit as an eternal flame.

It’s most likely a symbol of the seven gold lampstands in Revelation 1:12. In Revelation 1:20, the lampstands are revealed to represent seven churches. In Revelation 1:11, the seven churches are revealed to be the churches of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.

That's the Eastern altar candle. Yes, it symbolises the Revelation lampstand. Since JPII celebrated an Eastern liturgy in Vatican, it's appropriate that liturgical propers for that liturgy to be followed. You can still see them in Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches.
