Hah! So he was the one who started the road to independence for Rome from the other four Sees. Eventually it led to the need to replace all icons with CARVED STATUES in the western church with the intention of forging a separate and distinct non-byzantine 'identity' - a major stumbling block was thus put in place after the Photius schism. St. Gregory apparently was the pope who sowed the seed of rebellion, according to this sermon.
