Unit67 - A powerful and handy tone shaping tool!
DryBell’s Unit67 isn’t just another pedal, it’s several pedals working with one another to provide you with the slickest tone on planet Earth. Under the hood, the Unit67 serves up three separate circuits-a tunable boost, a clever EQ section and a 1176-style compression circuit. Each circuit cascades into one another for maximum efficiency, with expert voicings for each. For example, the Boost circuit gives out a pulverizing 22.4dB of boost, but gives a 0dB point for unity gain with tonal enhancement in spades. You can use all 3 effects together or separately and get the tone and feel of a loud amp at any volume. An assortment of smaller knobs tailor the EQ and sustain of the compression circuit to your liking, and a pair of toggles shapes it even further, even letting you bypass the entire equalizer for raw boost and compression.

Thisnis the best pedal I have ever had on my board. Ever. I’ve been playing for over 40 years.

Mike Hermans! What an incredible arrangement and execution of a great song. I dare say that Mr. Wonder would be impressed that six strings can do justice to it - and you did so, beautifully. The pedal is impressive. You are deadly.

My only question is, wasnt'it better to do a 3x footawitch so you can use the pedal to the fullest without taking ypur hands from the guitar while playing it?

sounds nice but $289 is a bit steep - same with their Vibe Machine pedal - love to have it, but too expensive - nice SW cover Mike!! Update: OK gave in and got a Unit67 a few months ago - I have it always on and it sounds great - worth the investment IMO.

I have a Cali76 SlideRIG... I thought it was what I was looking for from reviews & KZbin, but tested it vs a (great and much cheaper) Keeley compressor, just to be fair - what you can't 'hear' in a KZbin demo is they way they FEEL to play... it really was what I was looking for, so I paid the big price and walked out with a big stoopid smile on my face - it won't be the right choice for everybody, but it seems (really good) compressors just don't come cheap... I still love my old MXR Dynacomp, but it feels and sounds like an 'effect' - the Cali76 SlideRIG is just transparent... You can't really put a price on what makes you happy...! I like what I hear of this DryBell, it seems to have a similar level of transparency. Great demo !

Mike, thank you again for a thorough review with outstanding sound examples. I aquired the pedal some time ago. I agree on all the comments except for advice concerning the place in the signal chain: It has strictly to be the first in the chain imho to use the parallel compression really well. Those mini knobs are painful though.

Drybell Unit 67? Or Origin Effects Cali76?

Consistently an inspiration. Not sure whether to throw my guitar against the wall or just use your demos as instructionals. Very much appreciate the headstock GoPro shots for the latter. Really, you could make a two by four musical.

Bought it today. I play a strat custom shop with 69 pickups through a Two-Rock studio pro 35 with matching cab. I have no idea where this 'it feels like playing an amp cranked or in the zone' comes from. I notice the opposite. It adds more headroom, and feels a bit stiffer even. I thought they meant that buttery feeling when your amp is in the zone of power sag, where you feel like it plays effortlessly with natural compression. I had the opposite feeling. It works great as a clean boost (high buffered headroom). It works great as a compressor. But the EQ section is a bit weird. Bass adds bass, but not much, high adds treble, but range adds piercing high mids making it not suitable for a strat if you still want a full sound. So I keep it a unity. It's not a 'turn a knob' pedal. It's complex when you engage all 3 sections, and isn't easy to dial in. What it does great, is as boost and eq before an overdrive pedal. That's when it works great and gives that buttery feeling. It adds compression upon the compression of the overdrive, pushes the gain of the overdrive, and makes the overdrive cut through, and thanks to the eq section, you can choose which frequencies are pushed. But if I had to choose between the Unit 67 and my Empress para EQ, I'll choose the Empress. That pedal doesn't have a compression section, but is easier to dial in and really fine tunes your sound.

Rangemasters and "Range" control on the Unit67 shouldn't be used on clean amps, especially with a Strat type of guitar.. it will sound exactly as you've described. But when you push a slightly overdriven amp with the "Range" you'll know why everyone loves that sound.

@@exp1968 Yes, that's how I'm using it. In front of an overdrive pedal. Then the pedal shines for me.

@Colaboytje Very well stated man, thx. I've got a para EQ i use as a boost, and it's fantastic. At $400 for this thing, they can keep it.

Professor you clearly could just DI to a decent amp and nail these tones. I feel like I need to pay you for exposing all these riffs and arrangements..just emulating a couple of your trademark moves with these camera angles has moved me up a level! I hope these companies are compensating you well..no one comes close to the value you bring for the time spent here.
