Better hip control doesn't mean much, that's just one part of the body. Julie's technique only shines in feminine choreos with lots of waist/hip emphasis or that lean into her ballet prowess(like many of KIOF's choreos), Natty is better at just about every other aspect.

I think debating Natty and Julie is similar to Momo and Jihyo. I believe Natty and Momo are all-around better dancers, but Julie and Jihyo give that extra oomph in their movements and their facial expressions which may shift the viewer’s focus to them. Better dancer vs better performer, but both are vital to a great group.

I am quite perplexed as to why Julie isn't the main dancer of KIOF, it's evident she's main dancer vibes through and through. I mean if you see the Get Loud choreo behind the scenes, you can see how Natty outdances so many people where even the American dancers that came to dance with them said she was outstanding. But when she’s with the group, she heavily toned down her dancing to be in uniform with them as that’s something she learn was very important from JYP. Julie however was in tbl where they mainly focus on your individual energy rather than the groups as she is sometimes isn’t in sync with them. After seeing that, there was a discourse Amongst k-choreographers on why Natty doesn’t show that same energy with the group but they all came to the same concluding that after SHHH, she toned her dance down to be in sync with the others :))))

Something about Natty is so magnetic like she just draws you innnnnn. My eyes keep following her. She has that 'it' factor, that 'x' factor. She's not just dancing with the choreo moves but like, performing.. storytelling almost. If she ever did contemporary numbers, she'd kill it and look like art in motion. Julie has that natural charisma that can't be taught. She looks like she has the most fun so it's such a joy to watch her. Her confidence and her way of interpretation makes some of the "high risk" moves look very satisfying and not awkward at all.

Thank you! I'm literally arguing with several people on TikTok right now who are trying to shade Natty and saying she doesn't deserve to be the main dancer of the group. Belle is the main vocalist and Haneul is the lead vocalist but Natty is a subvocalist so it's not clear-cut to most fans whether she is officially a part of the vocal line or not. Most kissys consider Julie and Natty to be the dance line and Belle and Haneul to be the vocal line, though.

@@HoneySushi no worries it’s just something I’ve noticed for quite some time now and never felt the need to comment on it but these days I am seeing more solo stans discrediting natty to praise julie which I don’t understand as they can both coexist as amazing dancers! Natty has amazing vocals and and an even better vocal tone (her vocals in sugarcoat was 10/10) so her being just a sub vocalist is crazy!! The lead and main vocal are probably outstanding then. I’ve seen a bit of Belle on my timeline and she’s definitely 5th gens main vocal 😅 I hope those girls and natty especially are more appreciated and loved!

I just tried to answer the person's question and the only information about this is fans' opinions since I haven't seen KIOF or their company talk about this themselves. Natty is a subvocalist officially but that doesn't make her a part of the vocal line, neither does being able to support or just singing in general. The 'lines' of a group consist of the members of that group with a focus in a certain area or other criteria(like age or other commonalities). In KIOF, Natty and Julie are usually referred to as 'dance line' because they are the main & lead dancers; Belle & Haneul are usually referred to as 'vocal line' because they are the main & lead vocalists. This doesn't mean Natty can't be considered as part of the vocal line at all, though. They can definitely all 4 sing and I've seen some people say Julie has a sense of support but I don't really know if this means they're saying she can support or if she's close to doing it. Either way, no part of my comment was saying anything negative about the girls' skills.

There are some opinions that Natty should also be a lead vocalist and I don't disagree, she even could be but she just hasn't said anything about it yet. She only introduces herself as 'the main dancer and all-rounder' so it's entirely possible. The subvocalist info came from the group's individual Melon artist profiles and I don't know how official the information there is tbh. Belle is def one of best vocalists of this gen(maybe even THE best) and Haneul is more skilled than she gets credit for. I hope so too!❤❤

Your personal preference isn't what determines postions, though. The only argument I've seen people making for Julie being the main dancer rather than Natty is just that people personally prefer her style or that she stands out more. Neither of those make someone a main dancer and the second one has more to do with being a center or fotg. Natty is more technically skilled and is more focused on dance within the group than Julie(as she's the main rapper) so she deserves the position. There isn't a single valid reason that Natty shouldn't be the main dancer tbh.

I said that's the only part of the body that Julie has better control over Natty in; that doesn't mean it's insignificant but one part vs the entire rest of the body doesn't make Julie the better dancer is what I meant. Legs and feet are also part of the lower body but Natty has better footwork so it's hard to say who has better control of the entire lower body when they're both better at one area than the other in that regard. Also, one video is not enough to judge anything by since we don't know how much time they had to practice that or what else might have been going on that day, that's why actual analyses use multiple sources(like this video). If you want to mention looking awkward, Julie has a tendency to overdance that can be seen quite often(including in the video you're talking about), though I think it comes from her obvious enjoyment/excitement for being on the stage. There's nothing about this video to suggest that they're reliant on fan approval and you're the second person to accuse them of that just because you don't agree with their final verdict, you can't just dismiss these professional dancers' opinions for no reason like that. Other sources include judge's opinions from the 2 survival programs Natty was on(Sixteen and Idol School) where she was chosen as one of the top dancers out of all contestants(and the contestants themselves even agreed), the mmtg videos where other professional dancers(like After School's Kahi, La Chica's Gabee of 'Street Woman Fighter' fame, and professional choreographer Choi Youngjoon among others) talked a little more in-depth about dancing in general and praised Natty, and also several other one-off comments from other professionals in the industry that have talked about her talent that you can find on Twitter/X or in other video KZbin appearances of the girls. The harder thing to do would be to find professional opinions that support your claim that Julie>Natty when it comes to dancing tbh.

Julie's Technique is limited to only hip-hop and ballet because that's what she was trained in. Whereas Natty was trained in a variety of different styles, including hip-hop and interpretive dance. So it is a hard thing to tell between the two but ultimately, Natty is the Main Dancer while Julie is the Lead Dancer. And that reflects a lot in the dance breaks where the main focus is Natty and Julie while Haneul and Belle are more outsiders since they are the vocal line.
