NEVER put your dog in a crate. Integrate them INTO YOUR FAMILY where they are happiest. It's a jail to them and they have nothing to do for hours. It's keeping them alive, that's it. My 7 veterinarians agree. If you want a sad or unhealthy dog, put them in a crate for hours. Would you jail your kids?

I do a lot with rebar, wood, etc. Wife and I recently added a puppy to our family and he's nearly outgrown his wire crate. This is perfect and goes with our decor, too. I've seen similar wooden crates on Craigslist for big bucks, so this will be a fun weekend project. Thank you for the video! Johnny D.

Great video. I will be making my first wood kennel this weekend. I been taking notes as far as what to buy. We all learned from our mistakes. One thing I'm thinking of doing is, drilling all holes for bar before installing. On the top frame i will drill all the way through the wood. Install frame. Insert the bars through the top.make sure hole on top is a bit bigger..once you line it up with bottom hole, tap it with hammer all the way in. You won't see the hole on top because your top will cover it. Anyways Thanks a lot

Get those plastic dog crate liners from your local pet store, they only cost a few dollars. Use that as the inside measurement for the top and bottom of your wooden crate (which looks AMAZING BTW). Then if your pet has an accident inside the crate, you can remove the liner, clean it, and reinstall it without having to replace the wooden floor of the crate. I would also attach the top with hinges and some kind of latch to make cleaning the crate easier too.

I imagine getting all this bars in the holes were a pain, so I'm going to drill the holes all the way through the top 2x4 and then I can just drop them in afterward the box is assembled. This is an amazing build. Though I dont have the correct table saw for being able to cut the rebar is there another sturdy alternative I could use that would look great but also be sturdier then just wood?
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
MiSsToX1c I have built a few other dog crates and I ripped a 2x4 in half and used those as the bars. I put one pocket hole on each end, glued and screwed them when I attached to the sides. They are holding just as strong. (Makes the crate lighter also)
@jasonroberts82066 жыл бұрын
You can pick up a grinder at Wal-Mart for like $20 to cut the rebar. It will most certainly take a lot longer than the saw. You'll have lots of sparks for longer too so beware of fire hazards.

Billy Vandergaw I’m not sure of the exact weight but it’s pretty heavy. I can pick it up by myself but it’s hard to move it because it’s awkward. Definitely better with 2 people. If I did a guesstimate I’d say it’s around 60 to 70 pounds. Most of the weight is the rebar of course.

@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Ginny Darnell ok, here you go.... starting with the 2x4’s: 4 pieces cut to 30 inches (these go along the top and bottom of the front and back of crate. Horizontal) 4 pieces at 23 1/4 inches (legs, parallel) 4 pieces at 20 inches (this is for the top and bottom of both “short” sides horizontal again) 1 piece at 16 1/4 inches ( this is the front center upright for door parallel) 2 pieces at 16 inches ( top and bottom of door. Horizontal) 2 pieces at 9 inches ( left and right side of door parallel) Rebar is 1/2 diameter cut at 18 inches long. ( how many will vary on how you want your spacing) I think I drilled the hole a little bigger and about a half inch deep. Inside crate floor is 20 1/4 inches wide 34 1/4 inches long ( this is a project panel from Lowe’s) Crate top is 39 inches long by 24 inches wide (this is also a project panel) gives about an inch overhang on all sides. 4 pieces of 3/4 inch thick 5 inch wide 6 inch long blocks for the feet. Place one on each corner. This way if the dog messes the wood up over time you can replace the bottom board without needing tools. Just lift it up from the bottom and slide it out. All 2x4’s were joined with glue and pocket hole screws. I used the kreg jig with 2 1/2 inch screws. Then of course you will need 2 hinges of your choice and a gate lock. P.S...... I found some scrap about 1/8 inch thick for the spacing of the door so it wouldn’t rub. Hope this helps!! This thing will last forever lol.
