The legend showcasing what it was all about when it first started all about feeling good, having fun and expressing the music more than the crowd reaction. Man just watching this legend feeling the music and executing to the music puts a smile on my face. It's not about chasing the beat it's about letting the music come to you. Love this legend right here Boogaloo Sam showing the essence of popping.

There may be more complex or flexible boogaloos styles, but Sam has a tangible quality to his delivery. The way he plays with the music is effortless. As basic as it is, his entire body own s the feeling. Genius always looks easy, but it's not.

its not my place to say who created what in popping... all I know is that this man embodies funk and because of him... a lot of people connect with this dance... All the haters are gonna hate... because he's that damn good.

People forget that dance is also about fun and just expression, that's where it started, not just battles or being super technical all the time. It's just getting down, which is what "soul" and "funk" embodies at the core.

He made boogaloo look easy and smooth. But looking carefully everything was complex boogaloo styles mixing and he did it without effort. Man! he is genius!.

The music and dance is authentic. Nice to see people appreciate and (Pay) to see urban dance legends. Appreciate them while they are still alive. Thank you Taiwan and Japan for supporting the originators of urban dance styles, instead of just watching and stealing like so many others do

Popping aka hitting is a style based on tensing and relaxing your muscles. This adds sharpness and the boom or ka effect to your moves depending on how you hit. As long as you do whatever and hit then you are popping. This guy here created or hugely contributed to the boogaloo style which utilizes popping/hitting to its movement. Back in the days, popping/hitting was used when dancing in funky music. Now the boogaloo style on its own is a dance style consisting extremely funky movements and to top it off, they pop/hit with it. As more and more people learned boogaloo style, they all loved it and it became very popular that some people think that popping is boogaloo which is totally wrong. Popping on its own is just hitting. Therefore, the only foundation for popping is ticking, strobing, and animation because these involves tensing and relaxation of a muscle. All of these foundations help your pop control and muscle controls which some people find useful for their feeling of dance. What people call foundation for popping nowadays like twist o flex, walk out, etc are all just guidance to make your moves look funkier but if you are clever enough then you can come up with your own stuff and as long as you are hitting then you are popping :3 Boogaloo is like karate. They are both styles that you have an option to use for achieving your goal. Popping is like Whether you want to use a weapon or protection in Karate to give you that edge. At the end of the day, it is up to you whether you want to copy Sam's feeling of funk or stick to your own raw feeling and create your own moves ^_^ Remember Bruce lee's advice that says "Be shapeless, be formless, be like water" to ultimately help you express your true self and dance is an expression of yourself so you decide. Bruce lee knew many martial arts style but he came up with his own style that expresses his true self. We can get some inspiration from there I think ^_^

Back in 1980, from a St.Louis perspective, it was known to us as the California Pop. Then by 1981, we start callin it electric boogaloo when dudes starting doing the scarecrow style. By 1983, waving &tutting was introduced & @ that time, the seniors in high school were doing electric boogaloo, but the freshman were not. They were break dancing. This became a battle. The freshman battled the seniors and won. That electric boogaloo style was played out by 83. I've seen guys who couldn't pop so good destroy dudes who could in battles. Thats why breaking is better than popping or electric boogaloo. It gives you more freedom. I've noticed that so many California poppers dance alike. I can spot them from a mile away.

No sir I have had my turn and proud of the fact the we created what is now all over the wold. I have danced in Japan, Korea, Philipines, and all over the states from 1980 to 1987. I dont want credit for anything But the masters deserve respect, and I know them and they love what they see, so do your thing, just some advice do it well, create, and don't be a clone. Make what you do is you and rise above the ordinary. Enjoy
