Popping John just pops, which some find repetitive, but I think its mesmerizing, and this performance in particular is nothing short of landmark. I've seen all but a few of these moves throughout the years, so I get it when I hear frustration coming from his admirers as well as his critics, lamenting the lack new stuff. John clearly evolves at his own pace, which is just fine by me because he seems to be getting better at the same ol thing, which is perhaps why we all keep coming back for more.

I'm going to go as far as saying.....in my lifetime I've seen art deteriorate in quality and meaning, music deteriorate in quality and meaning, film, theatre, literature, all of it. A deterioration commensurate with the advancement of technology, in my view. We're finished really. Us humans. THIS right here though is THE singlemost form of artistic expression left that still continues to reach higher and higher. What it has to 'say' barely matters. The point is simple...the detail of the 'line', the form in this one is utterly beautiful, spectacular and pure. And all it needed was a human body and mind to come up with it. No gimmicks, just genius. The best ever right here, I think.

Back in the day at the beginning of breakdancing I was pretty darn good myself. Won a couple of national dance championships and I had a chance to take part in the world championship but at the time I was too young and under 16 so they couldn’t get the visa for me to travel and take part.… In any case, glad to have seen the incredible evolvement of breakdancing, body bopping into all the other forms that it is now. I’m sure if I was in my teens today I’ll be doing what this guy is doing. He is amazing. Very unique and creative. My advice is love every minute of it and continue to do it for as long as you can… Because there will come a point where your body just can’t do it anymore (let me rephrase that - your body CAN do it, but it’s impossible to do it as fluently and as efficiently as you grow older of course)… but you never lose that inner rhythm once you got it! Never! :-)
