I think the angry Kody was put away for the camera and he was like this behind the camera in the beginning of their relationships. The women wanted to live the principal, Kody wanted his fathers approval that he obviously never got. I think he wanted the money and fame and he manipulated the women into pretending all was great bc they literally had suffered food insecurity and stress about not having a roof over their heads so they were living in an environment of fear. It was easy for him to manipulate them into seeing his "vision". I've done a rewatch and you can plainly see that they agree to lie about things for the sake of the camera that they later admit too. This makes it easy to establish a pattern of behavior and how they act when lying. For example: Oh Mary is my best friend! Fast forward to last season: Mary and I have been at each other's throats for YEARS! It makes me sad to watch most of the episodes but so glad to see that Christine and Janelle "beat" polygamy AND Grody. It is awful for the kids but at least they have clarity after watching the way he speaks of them on national television.

I was a psych student at the time and watched the first episode or two of a lot of shows due to psychological based interest. I kept watching SW because from.the very first episode I knew the "marriages" would not last. I genuinely wanted to see the women freed of Kody. He's never been a good guy. Most people couldn't see through him in the beginning because he hid it better back then. However, I did skip a bunch of years in the middle, after they moved to Vegas, and just picked it up again the end of last season. I just checked on news about the show every once in a while waiting on the day the women would finally leave Kody.

Sorry, I have one more thing to say. Everyone has missed the most MONUMENTAL moment that happened on this show… Kody sat at the picnic table on Coyote Pass and outed Robyn. He said to her, “you made me promise, promise, you, that I would never pretend to love you, if I EVER, fell out of love with you, in our covenant vows to each other”. He was trying to STOP her from giving Meri any more false hope… She got upset and started crying about it, he was telling her to STOP, and she didn’t like THAT. I bet she had one heck of a fit when they got home. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that Robyn knew all along that Kody was faking his love for Meri, from the moment he met Robyn…

So that wasn't the promise that any of these other women made with him they made a promise for life you know till death do us part so it's a covenant and it's truly sickening what Robin is doing. @@lauriekurad Sorry, I don’t buy into that. Meri has said plenty of mean things about Christine and the kids before, and in this instance I don’t even think Christine told that story to be mean. Was she being gossipy? Potentially. But, the melted ring story was very relevant considering how weird Meri, Kody & Robyn acted about his new ring during the season. So I’m glad Christine told us the truth about why it was so weird. They’ve all been lying about being this big happy family from the beginning long enough. And if Kody told Christine that he melted the ring because he didn’t want Meti to have any claim over him and that it’d possibly be used to make new rings for some of the kids, then that brought the entire family into the story. Their lives are so intertwined and they agreed to publicize their relationships that it’s difficult to have a family secret.

I think she was abused and manipulated but it doesn’t negate her negative feelings and interactions with the other wives/children. To me it seemed Kody likes to pit a favorite wife against the others. The others are vilified including the children. The favorite and their children are given special treatment including dates and one on one time. He’s done it with Meri and Mariah and then Robyn and her children. Occasionally he showed favoritism to janelle but hardly Christine.

@@dr.jalisabarnes to clarify I believe she was being abused and manipulated AFTER Robyn came around specifically by Kody. Beforehand she was the aggressor and Kody allowed it/made excuses for it. The conflict amongst the women wasn’t a concern to him until Robyn came into the picture which is why I said he pitted the favorites against each other from time to time. What I want to specifically highlight is that Meri was the favorite until Robyn. when Robyn came around she began to be mistreated by Kody. So I think she needs to be accountable for what happened before. The ring thing happened after Robyn was already courting Kody and in that she was the victim. She tried to get favor by befriending Robyn but Kody was already disinterested. In their book she states she wanted to be a sister wife but she didn’t want to come second. She wanted to have control over the other women even down to selecting them because she wanted to monopolize Kodys time and attention/affection. Meri and Kody went on several dates and were very physically affectionate to one another until Robyn. Supposedly she selected another wife that didn’t work out and then Robyn. She despised both Janelle and Christine from day one and treated them and their children horribly. Many of the children came forward and said she physically and verbally abused them. Never made a meal or allowed them in her space. Never “baby sat”.. not until Robyn came into the picture. She has no relationship with any of the children but Robyn’s last 2 and Mariah.

Kody professing that this was his faith is BS, and over time, thank goodness, Christine, Janelle and finally Meri started thinking for themselves, they realized they deserved better. Kody blew up his relationship with 3 wives and 13 kids (I think that was the original total) for Robyn. Robyn was in massive debt when they met her, they paid it off. He took a honeymoon with Robyn that was 7 times longer than every other honeymoon he had. He divorced his legal wife to adopt Robyn’s kids. Robyn wanted to start a business that no one else believed in, especially Janelle (the only one with any business acumen) who called it as a disastrous money pit, which it was. Of course the business went forward anyway because…Robyn. The list goes on…culminating in Kody ignoring every other member of his family during COVID while imposing insane rules on all of them which he and Robyn weren’t following. Robyn pretending to be all for the family while encouraging Kody to systematically dismantle his family makes me sick. She and Kody deserve each other.

Yes the catfish already told the melted ring story BUT the catfish also told a heck of a lot of lies in the book....for example the story that Meri had been intimate with "Sam" on multiple occasions when there was no Sam so I think Meri wanted to drop the story in her book as a Bombshell. Although it wasn't Christine's story to tell, it did affect all the wives and she probably thought the world knew the story with it being in the catfish book.

When you used the analogy of the child acting out against the "safe" parent, it really hit home with me. I don't think anyone "owns" a story, and while I think Christine could have shared it a bit more gently, I really can see how Meri is displacing her anger towards Kody. HE is the one who has repeatedly abused and embarrassed Meri, not Christine. I think Meri really loves Kody, but she has allowed him to treat her abominably! He goes farther and farther with his verbal and emotional abuse towards Meri and I wonder if he enjoys doing that, just to see how far he can go. I think Meri is afraid to go too far with HER "outing" of Kody because somewhere deep inside, she's still praying for a reconciliation. She's in such denial and has allowed herself to be so humiliated. If I were in Meri's shoes, and thank heavens I am not, but I feel she truly needs to seek professional help.
