Watching that young man cry broke my heart and brought me to tears. The Mom in me wanted to reach through my TV and just hug him and tell him that everything was going to be alright. Gabe feels Kody's abandonment to the very core of his being. How could Kody NOT keep track of his children's birthdays? How could he not even remember that in the month of October that one of his children was born? Do you know how? He was more concerned about having COVID than trying to repair the damage he has done to his older children. It was all about Kody when he picked up that phone to call Gabe. For a young man to break down like that, publicly, he is REALLY hurting. I could not watch my son break down like that and continue being an ASS to him like Kody is doing. Prayers that Gabe gets through this and that he knows that he is a BETTER man than his father.

From a mothers perspective, Christine is letting Truly know that if she ever feels uncomfortable, she will come get her to ensure she has a safe space in her mother. She is aware Truly has never been there so she has to put it out there that she will always be there if needed. It’s actually an extremely comforting thing to a child to know that especially in any unfamiliar situation. Christine is just trying to avoid a situation where Truly does feel uncomfortable but just stays there and doesn’t speak up.

But we can see that her kids were just as neglected as Christine's. Why is that ok? Gabe crying bc his dad forgot his birthday is absolutely heartbreaking. Kody and Robyn need to put their Big Kid pants on and act like “parents” they say they are… it isn’t the child’s responsibility( no matter if they’re and older child) to reach out to them and to make amends . Kody and Robyn should make that step.

My folks forgot my bd one year. Like Gabe, I didn't say anything either. It was hurtful but unlike Kody, they did remember a few days later on their own and were so apologetic. I forgave them but it still hurt.

I really enjoy these! When discussing Janelle, I think you forget that this is her second marriage. (Her first was to Meri’s brother, which is a dynamic I would love to know more about. So, since it ended in divorce, let’s assume there was some type of abuse present (emotion, physical, whatever) to an intolerable level. Then, you marry Kody and you get the other extreme; a husband who is emotionally neglectful but who doesn’t hurt you and let’s you be independent. My guess is that that comparison is part of why Janelle has settled on a good marriage being a neglectful one.

Kody's relationships with Robyn's 2 older daughters is not normal and has never been normal. I would not trust Kody around my kids. Kody is cruel and uncaring. Kody thinks he can do whatever he wants because he thinks he is a god. Kody is a dangerous man. He thinks everything he thinks and says and does is inspired by God. That God only works through him. So, Janelle saw an independent woman working as a nurse in a hospital to support her 2 girls! What did Kody expect Janelle to do?! And I agree with you vs your wife. Janelle was not happy, and had to find ways to survive. Taking what Christine has now said in interviews away from the show, back in Vegas Janelle told Christine to be financially independent before she left. So Christine, bless her heart, got into the MLMs and started to make a killing. Sadly, Janelle wasn't quite at that point & before Covid things were better with Kody. So she kept fueling the family. Then Covid hit, and the splinters became full-blown fractures. (Yes, she was happy being independent to a degree. She also didn't like his new "patriarchy" expectations, which he never had before. But also learned he didn't meet her needs, so HAD to be independent.)

Gabe's reaction to Kody for getting his birthday was incredibly heartbreaking. But that amount of hurt doesn't just happen within a year or two of weird COVID rules. I'm beginning to think that all those previous episodes of a happy family when the kids were younger was probably just an act for TV. If you don't have a strong relationship with your pre-adult or adult children it's probably because you weren't really there as they were growing up. First in rental houses then in the purchased homes on the cul-de-sac. Kody made guest appearances in each home every week. It was as if they were the ex-wives that Kody kept around for the kids. Kody’s demand for loyalty has a financial subtext, in my opinion of course. I’m a longtime viewer and I see Janelle beginning to diverge from being the team player in this area. At this time in her life she is making plans for her personal housing, retirement, and travel to see children and grandchildren. Kody, in an earlier episode, ponders how to support Robin and her children as he ages. These two goals are not exactly compatible, especially with the loss of family money with the absence of Christine’s contributions.

The way that Kody responded to Gabe and Aurora tells the whole sad story of how Robyn and her kids supplanted all the other kids. It also demonstrates the difference between seeing you kids every day like with Robyn's kids vs seeing your kids every 4 days. How can anyone create, sustain and nurture a relationship?

AGH! Sometimes I feel like you want to give Kody benefit of the doubt so much you don't listen to what's being said. To the point about Janelle being her own hero, rescuing herself, taking care of herself...she explicitly said she advocated for herself, that she tried telling him what she needed and he didn't step up. She said the same thing about buying the RV. She tried talking to him, and he didn't respond, help find a place live, etc so she pulled the trigger. Please listen to what she said. (I think your wife also missed the part in a previous episode about them not having a "full marriage" -- he wasn't staying in the RV, just coming to visit and leave. And seemingly just for filming. Before that, he wasn't over much because of covid and how she and her kids weren't following the RULES. so, how could they have been intimate if he wasn't physically there??

Mrs D, I'm with your assessment of the situation between Janelle and Kody. Your observations are right on. And Dr D, Janelle is not transparent with Kody because she fears the conversation would escalate and nothing would get solved- so she is being careful. She's actually trying to use the tools she learned through the multiple marital/family sessions and workshops they've all gone to. I think she did a good job getting some important information through and showing accountability for her own role. What bothers me constantly about Kody is how hard he is on everyone else, but refuses to see he has a role and care about what his role is, and just whines about his own experience. Honestly right now, Kody is showing how plural marriage and having a kajillion kids doesn't work.
