Her pop music seems bubbly, but pretty much all of her older songs are satirical and have a deeper meaning.

One of my all-time favorites!! You were right on the BLOODMONEY with the meaning. She is talking about her abuser, the hypocrisy of higher-ups, and religion. Also, the song hits different live.

_”Anything like me”_ is a great song of hers, definitely one of my favorites

Nah, I doubt she actually believes she's being edgy. Just Poppy being Poppy. Everything with her is tongue-in-cheek. In order to fully understand Poppy you have to know her history, connection with her past producer Titanic Cinclair, and see some of her KZbin videos that aren't music. It's like this whole concept....

Check her song “Time Is Up” next. It’s more pop oriented and it kind of tells the story of the character briefly. 🤧✌️

It's good that you read her actual lyrics with the vids. I've noticed how all of her songs, old and new, seem to call out or mock the music industry, stardom or various things that are said in the road to fame. Then other times it just seems like she's just saying something freaky.

From when the guitar medley hits to the ending is amazing. I Kinda wish they would have kept that chord progression throughout the song rather than just the acapella. I find it hilarious watching this tiny 90lb girl go John Wick on a bunch of larger men. Overall I enjoyed this one.

Is entertainment for the purpose of entertainment? Yes. I do find it endlessly frustrating when people, and Poppy is an artist where this happens a lot with reactors-Either they get crazy performative with the jaw-drops and headphone-throws or they sit back and cross their arms and are all like, “mmmm, I dunno, is she genuine about this song.” Because of that I highly, highly recommend listening to the song “Art Is Hard” by Cursive. I remember my high school art teacher teaching this thing, I believe it was “5 Es.” Art first and most basically Entertains, (I can’t remember all the Es,) then it can have more layers where it can Educate, etc., etc. (it was nearly 20 years ago-God I feel old-give me a break.) Point is all art is created, not out of an pure expression, but with some plan and purpose. It is after all, ALL artifice. ------------------- As far as more Poppy goes, I suggest checking out some older videos before continuing with the I Disagree album: “Lowlife,” “Bleach Blonde Baby,” “Money,” “Interweb,” “Moshi Moshi.” Some of her oldest videos: covers of “Breezeblocks” & “My Kind Of Woman.” Then check out the other video off the Am I A Girl? album, “Time Is Up.” Wrapping up with “Scary Mask” off the Choke EP & the rest of the current I Disagree videos: “Sit/Stay,” “Anything Like Me,” & “Fill The Crown.” I also suggest checking out her performances on WWE NXT, (there are two, since I don’t know much about wrestling I don’t know how to describe them well,) one video she is performing as a wrestler is walking into the stage and the other she is just performing w/ her band. ^I think those are interesting as they play to the idea of artifice, professional wrestling being an apt metaphor for that. *BTW, a lot of people are probably going to bring up Titanic Sinclair and their relationship in regards to a lot of the songs off I Disagree, and although there might be validity to those arguments it is important to point out that he has co-songwriting credits and they did not separate until after the album was released. I think there are likely a few layers to the meanings of all the songs on the album, including this one-which should be impressive considering the lyrical simplicity. There is something to be said about these having a focus on the music industry, (she has been on at least three different labels, Island, then Mad Decent, and the most recent being Sumerian-they appear to fully support her, so that’s cool.)

The funny thing is, for most of Poppy’s career so far, looking up interviews probably wouldn’t tell you that much about her actual thoughts. Lol. I won’t give anything away, but Poppy is/was pretty mysterious. That may or may not change after she struck out on her own in the past year or two (I can’t remember how long it’s been, 2020 has been a thousand years long). Hard to tell so far. So giving your interpretation without knowing what she really stands for is even more fitting with her than it would be for other artists, imo. I love Poppy, though. Mysterious or not, shock for entertainment or just to be true to who she is, I don’t care. I love her voice and her music. I love the pop music and the rock music she‘s released pretty equally. I hope she finds even more success as time goes on. I also hope you react to some of her pop music, too. It’s very, very different. There’s a whole lot less singing about blood, for one. 😂

You basically got the meaning of the song correctly. The song is both about a specific trauma she experienced with her former writing partner, and the chorus is her calling out this person and others like him, by saying “Keep telling yourself that you’ve been playing nice, then go back for forgiveness from Jesus the Christ.” Essentially calling them hypocrites, because to the public eye, they portray themselves as saints and intellectual artists, but behind closed doors they’re mediocre narcissistic abusers who leech off of her! That’s why I’m the second verse she says, “never forget the excess of a man, because the grabbing hands always grab what they can.” So right on the nose with this reaction. You should react to “Scary Mask ft. Fever 333” next.

Hey jersh! Another awesome video as always. I think the one shot and fight sequence/loud screaming music is the shock value, and her screaming verses are the “real” parts. But i think its a real, really catchy song with catchy hella guitars for the shock, and the verses offer a chance to reset and cut stuff up. Awesome react!! @mundain88184 жыл бұрын
her entire thing is being loud some might take it as exaggerating but thats kinda her think trying to shock you and break the rules, you were 100% on point with the hypocrisy its about an old friend of hers (aka grimes) that was hypocritical
@kowaibunny88934 жыл бұрын
This is literally about Titanic, she even said so and confirmed so. Has nothing to do with Grimes and yes their little fight. Love Poppy, met her at VIP twice, have a lot of exclusives and signed merch, but come on, Grimes doesn’t like big corporations messing with her music, and the label Poppy was with at the time Mad Decent most likely forced her to release Play Destroy without Grimes consent, and they both got pissrd at each other. The song is about Titanic, can’t believe the first thing that comes to mind is her and Grimes little thing versus her abuser for 3 something years that she finally broke free of. Don’t try to educate on something you’re clearly not educated on.
@mundain88184 жыл бұрын
Kowai Bunny its has everything to do with grimes how ignorant of you to say it has nothing to do with her! shes said in numerous interviews it was written out of writers block and after a messy drama with a friend who was very hypocritical! get your facts straight
@mundain88184 жыл бұрын
Kowai Bunny you need to learn more about the entire situation before trying to tell someone to educate themselves when in reality its you who needs to be educated. the song could have many reasons but the main one is about a friend who was hypocritical (poppy said grimes was very hypocritical in an interview) and written out of writers block. the song was made by entering random sounds into a synthesizer until poppy though hey this might sound good. i LOVE poppy and i LOVE grimes but the facts are facts. like seriously girl stretch next time before you reach so hard 🤦🏻♂️
