I had heard of these poppies growing in a field near Chesham in Buckinghamshire. The place is called Herbert's Hole and it looked amazing. If you want to support my channel please consider buying me a coffee at: buymeacoffee.c...

Quite spectacular! I seem to remember 'doing' Herbert's Hole with a few mates in the early eighties. We were all 20-ish at the time. We had alighted at Chesham tube station and were all set for an adventure. There used to be a Youth Hostel at The Lee and the keys had been kindly posted to me because, as it was out of season, there wouldn't be anyone there. Needless to say, the whole thing was a bit of a shambles. In the dark, we eventually found the Youth Hostel and let ourselves in to make good use of the facilities. I suppose we slept well due to being utterly knackered. To this day, I'm not sure what the overall plan was ... and I had drawn it up. Anyway, come darkness the next evening, we had made it to Worlds End and then pitched our tents in the woods next to the reservoir. There was a pub across the road so, naturally, we sauntered out of the undergrowth to investigate, as you do. Of course, the locals eyed the four us with suspicion at first but after spending a few quid at the bar they became slightly less cool towards us. I mean, to us, from the suburbs, this seemed like banjo-playing country. So, it turned out that there was supposed be a darts match but the opposition hadn't turned up (probably couldn't find Worlds End on a map) and there was heaps of sandwiches that needed eating. Which we did. Much easier than firing up the Primus stoves. After staggering back to our tents to spend the only night under 'canvas' we decided in the morming that this 'adventure' had run its course. We packed up, found a phone box and called our Venture Scout leader. He drove out from Eastcote to rescue us. The very mention of Herbert's Hole brought all these fond memories flooding back. So, thanks for that 👍

Nice little ride out there buddy. I recognised The Lee right away. I'd never seen that Courtyard place at Pednor though. Wow!

I love The Lee. It's such a beautiful place and as for Pednor, that was a pleasant surprise. I'd never been up that way before. It's great having this bike now as I can explore these narrow lanes and see where they go.
