Lol these comments! People are so serious and aggressive about a fun building exercise. Chill out and smile once in awhile!

The first bridge didn't actually fail, the weights fell over....

this was a grade 10 class we weren't given any instructions on how to build the bridges, just given a certain amount of sticks to complete the bridges. also it was just a project the teacher wanted to do to try get the students to like his class more not really a competition

These bridges aren't bad, the way they were tested is. And it doesn't matter what your school "designs your bridges" to hold if they're not efficient. It's the weight ratio that is important, not the weight it holds. If your bridge held 1000x its weight, kudos. But just throwing out heavy weights your bridge can hold without providing a ratio makes you sound a bit uneducated.

I'm in 8th grade and our teacher wants us to do something similar but has to withstand 8 pounds for 32 seconds and have a 6 inch high truck go under it and over it to pass... my group doesn't want to listen to me, looking forward to them failing :^)

what sort of moronic school/teacher/class is this? Piling weights on TOP of bridges? Did anyone tell the students the exact loading criteria their bridges would be subject to? I doubt it. 99% of bridge building exercises use bottom, point loading because it's the only consistent and fair way to measure. This is embarrassing.

Mark Hunter i just crushed mine today anf what we do is put a metal plate on top of the bridge that is attached to a chain that hangs under the bridge then we attach the chain to 1 or two buckets and put the weights in the bucket this is the right way to do it

Mark Hunter I'm doing this currently in my school, it is for TAG. (Talented And Gifted). We have to make a popsicle stick bridge using 100 popsicle sticks, wood glue, and it has to extend over a gap of 13 inches. We will then put weight on top to see which will hold the most.

My eighth grade class is doing this and my teacher says we have to use only 200 sticks and the bridge has to withstand 20 pounds or more and whoevers group holds the most weight wins
