Secondly, this isn't the only time he's done this in a debate. He regularly cites passages from the Bible as "evidence", then when his opponent goes to counter it he shuts them down by saying it's not the topic up for debate and he isn't prepared for it. Except the debate is the evidence for evolution, he's taking the opposing views and the Bible is his one and only source. It's intellectual dishonesty. Finally, he clearly sees no issue with Comfort catching people unawares with big questions they clearly have no preparation for, despite the fact he never seems to be prepared for any question ever and in his mind, that makes even approaching the subject dishonest. It's blatant hipocracy.

Every Christian I know believes in both. The only 'textbook' he accepts as genuine and without error was written around 2,000 years ago. It was written over many decades by over 40 mainly anonymous authors, none of whom were scientifically literate, in three separate languages. The only changes since then have been the numerous translations and mis-translations. If a scientist were to use a similar work as the basis for his knowledge he would simply be laughed at.

The teacher gives the student the test, not vice versa: I remember a big controversy when it was suggested that Texas schoolteachers get tested. It only makes sense that professionals demonstrate their competence in the subject. Your medical doctor, lawyer, accountant, electrician, driver, etc. all pass exams. As a orthodox Jewish person, the Torah says that the earth isn’t flat. Our sages said that there were 1 trillion stars. This was said 2,000 years ago. We have prophets saying that the earth is a sphere in space. There is no flat earth Hebrew translations and no flat earth Hebrew model. Trust me, flat earthers do a little more research. It would be real interesting to see if the original Hebrew Bible (since it's the bible they always refer to) give those "proofs" they have from the bible a different meaning. Maybe you could do videos on the topic, I bet it would cause quite a stir in the flatearth-debunking-scene since that is a type of debunk that most people have never even considered. Quite an interesting angle honestly. Just knowing that the Torah have other wording is a good start, but since they all go by the bible it would be more interesting to see what the bible said originally.

Although mine was going to be more like a 'when' did some prophets say this, I would suggest that this was after Eratosthenes had already calculated the circumference of the sphere we live on. You will note that Hypers said "prophets were saying..." Essentially a prophet is just someone who has read the bible, interprets verses into what they want it to say, then has an opinion of what their interpretation means. The bible is excellent for interpretation of what a believer wants it to mean for them individually. In the US alone there are 200 distinct denominations (thousands if you go with versions of the distinct ones) Each denomination interpret the bible differently, Christians simply can't agree on stuff. The orthodox Jews essentially follow the old testament. That is where all the really crazy stuff is. But, I am with you, the firmament separates the waters above from the waters below. I am unsure where space fits in that scenario. Maybe the Spacex rockets got a wash as they went through the waters above?

I don't know how the Torah function unfortunately but if its like the Quran there can be plenty of very important texts not in the main book. Also firmament is such a lose description, it might be that the translations have changed a lot during time.. It would be interesting to see how it as written in the old Hebrew bible don't you think? Not that it really matter but it might be a good example on why the bible is not a book of "pure facts", since it's been interpreted several times over.. Everything in the bible should be read as metaphors and life lessons, not as a book about actual psychics.

In science, a theory is not a guess, not a hunch. It's a well-substantiated, well-supported, well-documented explanation for our observations. A theory never becomes a law. Being an atheist myself, I have no problem with what others believe whether it’s Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and will gladly speak to them about it and offer questions bout their particular religion to gain a better understanding of it. It’s when they start pressing this onto me and making this the be all and end all of the matter. For example the bible says this that and the other and we must live by these teachings. No the bible is an anthology of stories from people who may, or may not, have been present at a particular event that may or may not have happened over 2000 years ago. It must also be remembered that this was not originally written in English and has been translated. As we all know when you translate something into a different language, this can be literal and the meaning changed. Classic example would be “suffer not a witch to live”. How many women were condemned and killed because of 1 mistranslated line, when the original meant to say suffer not a poisoner to live.

So not all Christians are presented with this dilemma.
