I’ve been a fan of EC since I discovered “The Big Book” as a kid and then picked up my first EC reprint at my first comic con in 1973(?). Now, I pick up the EC Artist Slipcases that Fantagraphics produces and any other special EC-related books.

As a young teen reading “Foul Play” I thought it was the best thing ever! But, I’ve been a horror fan since I was a young child.

@raph-retro-comics you're right, and a majority of collectors are finally realizing it!

Love those EC comics. I think they might be too”wordy” for modern readers but thats their loss! One reprint format I really liked was the oversized (not quite treasury sized) large versions on heavier stock paper with the $4.95 cover price. Lots of great ways to collect and read these comics

They're great. I have them in a bunch of different formats, from hardcovers (which have great amounts of additional information) to the Gladstone reprints. I agree, they can be pretty dense with the words, but you get so much more out of them!

In 1977, when I was 16, my family took a trip to Washington DC. On one of the days, I went to the Library of Congress to read the transcript of the Senate hearing on juvenile delinquency that specifically dealt with comic books and had Gaines’ testimony. The librarian wanted to know why a kid wanted to read transcripts of hearings from 1954. When I started to explain about the controversy over comic books at the time she became very disinterested and gave me the reading material.

You were way ahead of the curve! I think about Mr. Gaines' response to Crime Suspenstories #22 in the hearings. I understand it was a very stressful time for him back then, but I chuckle a little bit inside. A dark time for comic books for sure, but fascinating nonetheless.

@@raph-retro-comics Gaines’ response wasn’t the best at the time but it’s funny to read now. He was also a chronic dieter and his dose of prescription amphetamine was wearing off during his testimony. That definitely didn’t help at all.

“Judgement Day” is one of my favorite EC stories as you can see by the image I use on KZbin.

As much as I prefer the single issue reprint format, I was very happy that double sized reprint issue of Haunt of Fear included both Four Play AND Judgement Day! So many good stories packed into one issue. It's nice to see some new collectors appreciate these amazing EC stories, but I still feel they are under-appreciated as a whole. Not enough comic book fans are reading these fantastic stories.

Check out the History of EC comics by Taschen xxl size

I'll need to look for that, always looking for good EC material! Thanks for the suggestion!

I haven't read that, but Foul Play!: The Art and Artists of the Notorious 1950s E.C. Comics, by Geissman is quite good (and quite a bit shorter!).

I pre-ordered The History of EC Comics and got 3034/5000 of the first edition. I also managed to get a copy of EC Portfolio #1 that belonged to Herb Trimpe off of eBay a few years ago.
