Popular Movies I don’t hold in such high regard!

What are some movies that are gerally disliked but you have enjoyed? For me two of those are Eddie Murphy’s Norbit and Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo. It probably helps that I saw both of those when I was a teenager.

That’s a great question and a subject deserving of a video itself I thing 🤔. But to name 2. Batman and Robin I don’t mind at all. It’s so far removed from any other Batman film that I can watch it and have fun with it - it’s a big screen version of the Adam West show. The Postman with Kevin Costner is another

Some interesting choices for sure! Big Trouble didn't really click for me either when I watched it. I know it's widely loved, but I wasn't quite prepared for the very B movie feel, which I'm sure is what appeals to a lot of people. Interesting to see The Matix on your list as Stuart was talking about it recently too on his channel saying that he wasn't a big fan of it either. Blade Runner is one of my absolute favourites, but it took several watches before it got there, but sounds like you've given it a good go!

I always give it a go. And will likely continue to. 2049 I can watch anytime though. A fabulous movie imo

People getting offended at other peoples taste in movies never ceases to amaze me. Some of the comments I’ve had because I didn’t like a movie that someone else did. Most infuriating things is to be told that you just don’t get it. I have yet to watch BladeRunner because the idea doesn’t really appeal. I do like Batman & Halloween but the rest I can take or leave.

Like I say it’s the ‘football’ mentality. I don’t get it either. We all Love film. But what makes it interesting is the differences and why. I find it far more interesting having a conversation of a differing opinion and exploring that than to be in complete agreement over something. But some people do get offended so easily over the stupidest thing

Unless you’re a kid I don’t understand how people can get excited for a new Batman film. Ooh Bruce Wayne and the Riddler and the Batmobile and Alfred and Gotham City and Catwoman and the Joker and Commissioner Gordon and the Penguin… seen it all before a hundred times. The Batman didn’t excite me at all, would rather see something new at least

Batman is way over done. No time goes by at all and you get a recast. Not to mention the TV projects ( Batman or Batman related like Gotham and Batwoman )

Watched Big Trouble with my kids the other day after not seeing it for over 15-20 years. They were bored in parts but that might just be a modern day problem of adhd. I too though was confused as the tone of the film can't make its mind up what it wants to be. Its a martial arts fantasy comedy with a john wayne/fletch type lead character. Also the poster art looks comic book Indiana jones style. Its a mess but it has its fans. Give me snake pliskin any day.

It’s very overhyped. I know the Batman has its fans. Just didn’t work for me. I am hoping the sequel is amazing and makes me re evaluate the first. Sometimes a sequel will come along and if story and themes carry through it can help improve what came before. But that may be wishful thinking 🤔

On Friday just started Airwolf Aj never watched in my life loved it as you would say I have been living under a rock 🪨 and also would like your opinion on Jurassic world dominion, I felt it sometimes it where boring in parts.

JW dominion. 🤣. I did review it at the time. My god it’s heavy on convenience. Too many times throughout. The worst being the car rolling down the hill ( with the OG cast in ) landing at the feet of the new cast ). I think the film looked nice. But played like a F&F film at times.

- Big Trouble in Little China: Watched it one time, but didn't do it for me. - The Matrix: Saw it when it was just released, but didn't understand what the fuss was all about. Gave it a rewatch just a couple of months ago, but still didn't understand all of the hype around it. - Blade Runner: Of course, I know the movie by name, and must've seen the trailer a couple of times throughout the years, but I've never even watched the movie. - Halloween: For as far as I know, the first time I watched it, it didn't really click with me. Gave it a rewatch about 10 years ago. Could appreciate it for what it is, but didn't regard it as a masterpiece. Watched it a third time just a couple of months ago. Again, I appreciate it for what it is, and I do really like the music and the atmosphere, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. Now, as you've probably noticed, The Batman is missing from the above list. So, let's get to that now. Believe it or not, but my opinion is even more controversial than yours. Do you know why? Because I don't like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy at all. Yes, I just said that. I watched the first movie when it was just released, but it didn't do anything for me. Gave it a rewatch about 10 years ago, but didn't enjoy it and couldn't even be bothered to watch the sequels. Just last week, I've been watching the four Batman movies from the 80s and 90s. Watched one movie every night, and after watching Batman & Robin I promised myself to finally watch the complete Dark Knight Trilogy. The first one still didn't do it for me. The next day I watched the second movie, and enjoyed that one much more. I actually thought this was a really good movie, and was even looking forward to watching the third movie. However, I absolutely hated the third one. Really, I'd rather watch Batman & Robin, which is regarded as a terrible movie. Another movie I can't get into is Harry Potter. Tried to watch the first movie a couple of time, but I can't even get past the first 30 minutes. When I start watching a movie, I want to see how it ends, so I very rarely turn off a movie. However, Harry Potter is one of the few movies I didn't even finish. I think it's so terrible, I just have to turn it off within the first 30 minutes.

I’ve never gone past the first Harry Potter. Defiantley not for me. Interesting re the Nolan Batmans ( just shows we have different tastes ). You say you’d rather watch Batman & Robin over them - I say the same - for ‘The Batman ‘ 🤣

@@ajsmovieplace I actually like Christopher Nolan's movies. Just this month I've watched Tenet, Interstellar and Dunkirk. Earlier this year I also watched Oppenheimer and Inception. To me, Tenet and Interstellar are absolute masterpieces, and I consider them the best movies ever made. Not just the best movies by Christopher Nolan, but in general. I also like Inception. Oppenheimer and Dunkirk are not my favourite Nolan movies. It's been a couple of years since I've seen Memento, but I do own it on DVD, and remember liking this movie as well. So, as you can see, I do like his movies. Still, I don't like his Dark Knight Trilogy, with the exception of the second movie. However, we are grown-ups, so we can accept each other's opinion without hating each other. That's exactly the point you're always making in your videos. Why should we hate each other for having a different opinion and liking different things? If you enjoy something I don't like, that's great. If everyone had the same taste, there wouldn't be such a wide range of different movie to chose from. Then every director'd make exactly the same movie, and every person in the world'd be watching the same kind of movie over and over again.

@ijslandernl Nolan is a great Filmmaker. Although I have a funny relationship with Inception. I remember seeing it at the cinema. Loved the film. A lot. Got it on Blu-ray at release. But never watched it again. And when I have tried I switched off 🤷‍♂️. Interstellar is a masterpiece. I do like that one. And have a lot of enjoyment with Dunkirk. Tenet was ok.

I agree with you about big trouble and blade runner and to some extent Batman. All have great casts but have never quite hooked me in like theh do with a lot of people.

You should have seen the flack I got when I said I didn’t like Flash Gordon 😁 I don’t care one little bit if people don’t like films that I hold in high regard and it doesn’t matter anyway as taste changes over time. I used to love martial arts movie but the appeal has worn away (but that’s not to say it may return 😁) I enjoy each and every film you mentioned here AJ (controversial as always 😆) nice one mate… you are the Jack Dee of the blu-ray community 🤣 take care👍😃👍

I picked up a nice edition of Big Trouble in little China on DVD, a nice edition. I enjoyed it but I like the martial arts aspects plus the fantasy element

There's only one I don't agree with BUT I'm not going to say you're wrong because taste is an individual beast and that's Blade Runner. Weirdly though how you feel about this film is precisely how I feel about the 2049 version. Can't comment on The Batman as I haven't seen it but the rest? I'm right with you. Big Trouble has never been to my taste, I appreciate it more than I've ever liked it. The Matrix again.. not for me and Halloween I have a weird relationship with. Once upon a time I would have placed the 1978 film on a certain pedestal but as time went on it's one that I've lost a lot of love for. I don't hate it but not one I'd go out of my way to see again.

The Matrix hasn't aged well for me but still has a great concept which I had read a similar story years before about brains in jars. No not The man with 2 brains.😂 Think the book was called grey matters. The subsequent matrix films and last one being awful killed the impact of the first one. The ideas behind the matrix keeping the masses asleep similar to they live is a conspiracy theorists wet dream so I enjoy it still.

Blade Runner is a good film. Overated? Maybe but as you say the look and world of it is great. So is the soundtrack. Yes it is very slow which can work if you can stay awake😂 I do watch it once in awhile and do enjoy it. The 2nd film I found boring on first viewing but really enjoyed some years later. I do think we appreciate things better depending on our mood or energy levels. So yes it is subjective and doesn't mean our views are set in stone or we can't disagree with others. Halloween is just total crap😂😂😂 Nah I don't hate it, but do hate it being held on such high regard and carpenter being idolized like some modern day deity. Its an ok/good b movie with a catchy tune but I find mr myers not scary at all and the characters unlikeable or with any redeeming qualities. Again just my opinion. No need for people to agree or get upset if they love the film. I love they live first blood for example. You find they live overated? Fine. Doesn't change my opinion or enjoyment. I get people not understanding you didnt get the film or enjoy it as much as they did/do, but its not gunna make me turn on someone or get in a heated argument 😂😂. Defenders of the faith😂😂
