The major movie studios were already casting a jaundiced eye at a potential competitior. During this period, they wouldn't allow any TV stations- limited in number as they were- to show any of their older movies {the bulk of those films that were telecast at the time were either independent productions, foreign films [with subitles], or older silent movies with new accompaniments}.And the studios had every reason to worry, as weekly movie attendance was down considerably by the end of the 1940's.
