@@J_Lynn ahh i see. I was thinking of it the other direction ie young girls encouraged to old men. Yeah, that's sadly very much still a thing even with young guys make jokes about once they hit 25 they're going to start trading down to younger girls like Leo etc. Sugar babying is very popular at my college and there are always tons of old men hanging around trying to date college girls. and going with the flow joking about its fine because we have daddy issues. So come to think of it it's still really prevalent and sadly it's still mostly women and young men calling it out. Older men are silent on it because they want to keep dating young as they can. I'm probably naive to think the other guys I'm seeing is different but at the same time I really enjoy him. Comments like ops make me worried I'm being groomed and don't even know it and I'll feel it years from now but right now I see no red flags aside from him being ok with dating me which I guess theoretically should be a red flag.

Olivia may have liked the idea of getting a sugar daddy, until being in the hotel and him making advances made her realize how creepy the situation was. Urgh. This reminds me of when I was 19 the summer after high school. I worked the pvernight shift at Walmart and this 45 year old man would constantly come over to check on me, ask about my music tastes etc. He seemed nice enough and I didnt get along with the people there my age, I was shy and constabtly awkward. Eventually he started offering me rides home after work, would text me playlist ideas, bought me mcdonalds. I couldnt even fathom someone that old thinking of me that way, I innocently thought he saw me as a daughter figure. Until I wake up one morning to a picture of his you kniw what. He tried to play it off as an accident. I'll never forget the sick feeling I felt in my stomach and quit the job 2 days later. 19 is a one year old adult. Its hard enough figuring out the world wirhout predators breathing down your neck.

It’s so sad that this is the new norm. I don’t understand what's wrong with people anymore 😞 Edit: I wanted to clarify that people being groomers and pedophiles isn’t a new thing. I just meant that it seems like every new famous person is a creep. Famous people being creeps isn’t new. However, it’s not even surprising anymore because this has become the new reality of seemingly every new person who blows up. The internet has been able to give these people more power, but it also raises the chances of said people getting exposed, WHICH IS A GOOD THING!!

There has been aarge amount of creeps for awhile, it was incredibly normalized for s long time for older men to sexualize teen girls and kids. Comment ok and think about their bodies. The thing is we are no longer tolerating or accepting it. Most women have been cat-called, been inappropriately to inches in public, had a guy try and push boundaries or did cross them, etc. We are just finally calling out the behaviour in a loud way. How the hell can anyone look at this situation and think she was old enough to truly understand the intricacies and depth of it all? Victim blaming to the max and its disgusting. People that say 18 or 19 year Olds are already adults, or know what theyre doing and can make those decisions are just fucking wrong. The problem here is that she was naive (no shade, I am too) and she didn’t sexualize him so she assumed that he was being nice in good faith, instead of being a creepy weirdo. ugh! she posted about how no one deserves this type of behavior directed at them no matter their age - but the REASON men like him prey on girls HER AGE is because he is incredibly aware that women his age are usually a lot more aware of their agency. and they are less afraid to say NO and back the fuck off to guys like him. even women in their mid-late twenties are usually more able to assert themselves and not get into situations like this. that's the reason you often see men like him preying solely on people under the age of 25. it's easier to find plenty of willing victims in that demographic. i said this in reply to another comment, but many girls are raised to minimize their own discomfort when vocalizing it could make others (the perpetrator) uncomfortable. i remember as a kid, my mom would always tell me i can't tell my dad when something he does makes me feel bad or sad because it hurts his feelings. that type of messaging can spiral into what happened to her. i myself didn't learn to start trusting my own instincts until i had undergone extensive therapy, and, by around 27, i was finally able to stand up for myself no matter what i thought the consequences would be. and many people simply do not respect women who choose to defend themselves against predators. they tell you to think of the predator's feelings - when there is no expectation for the predator to not prey upon you or make you uncomfortable in the first place. it seems crazy to some people that she would willingly go through with all of this with all of the red flags - but many girls are taught to ignore their own gut feelings in favor of being kind and sweet and polite. not only do parents teach this, but we get this messaging in the media, at school, at work. society reinforces it every step of the way. so she very well may have felt deep down that something wasn't right, but at 19, she hasn't yet learned the tools that would allow her to consciously recognize them and defend herself against them, or not put herself into the situation in the first place. and unfortunately many women only gain these tools by going through something traumatic or discomfiting.

As someone who’s had a slightly similar situation. I can understand why at first she didn’t mention it because to be honest it’s embarrassing because you’ll already have the thought running in your head that everyone is gonna say “oh well you’re 19 why would you let it get that far” She is very brave to admit that she reciprocated an action because she was scared at that time and that feeling is a 100% VALID. and i just want to say something IF SOMEONE HAS THE ABSOLUTE NERVE AND AUDACITY TO TOUCH YOU OR HARASS YOU INAPPROPRIATELY WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION THEN THEY ARE CAPABLE OF SO MUCH MORE THAT YOURE NOT EVEN SURE OF AND THE FEAR YOU FEEL IN THAT MOMENT IS JUSTIFIABLE AND THAT FEAR CLOUDS YOUR JUDGEMENT AND ACTION THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT DO. So whether you push that person away or just “let it happen” it doesn’t change the fact that the other person is in the wrong and you are the victim. I hope Olivia is okay.
