9:35 hearing an almost 60 year old say unfortunately we aren't besties anymore more about a 19/20 year old is weird af. I'm mid 20s and I have a hard time even relating to teens anymore much less thinking about wanting to be friends with or talk to them. You mean to tell me he couldn't find someone closer to his age or more of an adult to be "besties" with?

that happens so often when weird guys dm girls and ppl just say ”why didn’t you block him if he made you uncomfortable?” as a 16yo i talked to this guy, just chatting about whatever, and all of a sudden he mentioned he was hard. i did tell him to stop, that it made me uncomfy, and he did. however during the period where we talked (literally one day, he stopped talking to me after i turned him down enough times) he did bring stuff like that up again. i remember asking myself why did i let it slide, was it because he was high and he apologized, he seemed sorry? idk. people push boundaries, and people let things slide.

Gen Z, PLEASE keep talking about problematic age gaps. I'm a millennial in my thirties recovering from complex trauma related to these kinds of relationships being not only normalized but ENCOURAGED when I was too young to know better. I love that y'all call this predation out because I finally feel like there are people willing to affirm my trauma. And these relationships are 100% traumatizing, even though the effects may not manifest for years after the grooming. Thanks for covering this 🙏

@J_Lynn
@J_Lynn Жыл бұрын
@@Nonyah123 I'm a millennial. Old men dating women as young as they could possibly date was very highly encouraged and thought of as being a very positive thing in the 2000s. A sign of a successful man. Many men my age and older (and some younger, too) are still living with these ideas in their heads. Watch any reality TV shows from the time and you'll see how bad the casual misogyny really was.
@Nonyah123
@Nonyah123 Жыл бұрын
@@J_Lynn ahh i see. I was thinking of it the other direction ie young girls encouraged to old men. Yeah, that's sadly very much still a thing even with young guys make jokes about once they hit 25 they're going to start trading down to younger girls like Leo etc. Sugar babying is very popular at my college and there are always tons of old men hanging around trying to date college girls. and going with the flow joking about its fine because we have daddy issues. So come to think of it it's still really prevalent and sadly it's still mostly women and young men calling it out. Older men are silent on it because they want to keep dating young as they can. I'm probably naive to think the other guys I'm seeing is different but at the same time I really enjoy him. Comments like ops make me worried I'm being groomed and don't even know it and I'll feel it years from now but right now I see no red flags aside from him being ok with dating me which I guess theoretically should be a red flag.

Honestly Olivia may have liked him, his money, or his following a little bit. She made contact and shared details about herself when he was talking about giving away free Taylor Swift tickets. He could have been using those tickets as “bait” to get her to share her phone and address with him. Olivia may have liked the idea of getting a sugar daddy, until being in the hotel and him making advances made her realize how creepy the situation was. After realizing his money didn’t make the creepiness worth it, she pulled out of the “relationship”. Free money and status is alluring to many young women, and sometimes it takes one bad experience to realize that this isn’t what they want for their lives.

I find this comment comforting because I’ve seen millennials call gen Z puritans/puriteens because of us speaking out against stuff like this. I think the reason why there’s that contrast is because millennials haven’t had the experience of being constant prey to adults from the moment they’re online. Love you babes. It's not your fault, and there is absolutely nothing you did to cause it to happen. You were targeted. The only one to blame is the person who hurt you. You are so fucking strong and beautiful. You deserve to love and be loved, you really do. If you harbour any feelings of regret or anger towards yourself, I sincerely hope you can forgive yourself eventually, because that is just an extra weight to carry around that is not yours to bear. bad people really like to confuse morality with legality... like being gay was once a crime, interracial marriage was a crime, but neither was morally wrong (obviously), as in reverse, is it illegal for a 56 year old to date a 19 year old? no, it's not illegal but it's not moral because that person can very easily be manipulated by a person with more life experience so it doesn't matter if it's legal or not, it's wrong regardless

Urgh. This reminds me of when I was 19 the summer after high school. I worked the pvernight shift at Walmart and this 45 year old man would constantly come over to check on me, ask about my music tastes etc. He seemed nice enough and I didnt get along with the people there my age, I was shy and constabtly awkward. Eventually he started offering me rides home after work, would text me playlist ideas, bought me mcdonalds. I couldnt even fathom someone that old thinking of me that way, I innocently thought he saw me as a daughter figure. Until I wake up one morning to a picture of his you kniw what. He tried to play it off as an accident. I'll never forget the sick feeling I felt in my stomach and quit the job 2 days later. 19 is a one year old adult. Its hard enough figuring out the world wirhout predators breathing down your neck.

How the hell can anyone look at this situation and think she was old enough to truly understand the intricacies and depth of it all? Victim blaming to the max and its disgusting. ugh! she posted about how no one deserves this type of behavior directed at them no matter their age - but the REASON men like him prey on girls HER AGE is because he is incredibly aware that women his age are usually a lot more aware of their agency. and they are less afraid to say NO and back the fuck off to guys like him. even women in their mid-late twenties are usually more able to assert themselves and not get into situations like this. that's the reason you often see men like him preying solely on people under the age of 25. it's easier to find plenty of willing victims in that demographic. i said this in reply to another comment, but many girls are raised to minimize their own discomfort when vocalizing it could make others (the perpetrator) uncomfortable. i remember as a kid, my mom would always tell me i can't tell my dad when something he does makes me feel bad or sad because it hurts his feelings. that type of messaging can spiral into what happened to her. i myself didn't learn to start trusting my own instincts until i had undergone extensive therapy, and, by around 27, i was finally able to stand up for myself no matter what i thought the consequences would be. and many people simply do not respect women who choose to defend themselves against predators. they tell you to think of the predator's feelings - when there is no expectation for the predator to not prey upon you or make you uncomfortable in the first place. it seems crazy to some people that she would willingly go through with all of this with all of the red flags - but many girls are taught to ignore their own gut feelings in favor of being kind and sweet and polite. not only do parents teach this, but we get this messaging in the media, at school, at work. society reinforces it every step of the way. so she very well may have felt deep down that something wasn't right, but at 19, she hasn't yet learned the tools that would allow her to consciously recognize them and defend herself against them, or not put herself into the situation in the first place. and unfortunately many women only gain these tools by going through something traumatic or discomfiting.

I can understand why at first she didn’t mention it because to be honest it’s embarrassing because you’ll already have the thought running in your head that everyone is gonna say “oh well you’re 19 why would you let it get that far” She is very brave to admit that she reciprocated an action because she was scared at that time and that feeling is a 100% VALID. and i just want to say something IF SOMEONE HAS THE ABSOLUTE NERVE AND AUDACITY TO TOUCH YOU OR HARASS YOU INAPPROPRIATELY WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION THEN THEY ARE CAPABLE OF SO MUCH MORE THAT YOURE NOT EVEN SURE OF AND THE FEAR YOU FEEL IN THAT MOMENT IS JUSTIFIABLE AND THAT FEAR CLOUDS YOUR JUDGEMENT AND ACTION THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT DO. So whether you push that person away or just “let it happen” it doesn’t change the fact that the other person is in the wrong and you are the victim. I hope Olivia is okay.

He's doing the classic boomer missing the point "its just two people singing for you FOR FREE" nobody cares that it didnt cost money, nobody cares that its two people instead of one. Immediately sounds suspicious

also that comment about doing it “for free” is so funny to me. like as if he should charge people to watch a livestream of him singing over a popular song😭😭😭
