I love niche drama that is incredibly low stakes but intensely personal. Like Sharon uses Nancy’s signature stitch to finish her most recent needlepoint, and this causes a schism in needlepointtok that ruins 6 friendships and leads to at least 1 divorce

Honestly, as a designer I am of the opinion that almost no idea is original and everything is inspired by something else. These are also very simple designs and it wouldn't be far fetched to think someone else would create something similar. ALSO, I thought that was the whole point of DIYs and further to that posting videos of your DIYs, so others can do it themselves. Lol wth

Literally, she could have easily looked into Kaarins videos and saw that she was inspired by her. Contacted her and telling her that some people think that she's copying her designs and responded with 'but I don't think you're copying me and you're clearly just have inspo' (that is what DIY is after all) and from that they could have easily become friends and done things together! But instead she messed it up by 'calling her out' and being petty over a 'Do It Yourself'.

@@shifa444 At first I was thinking the same, but its because I was thinking about it in a "person that makes art" way. But then I changed my perspective when I saw a comment saying something like "Bro, you're a DIY person showing how to make your house pretty to people". Thats the difference! It would be one thing of she was like a painter and someone copied her art. But she's in a community where it is literally the entire point that you also do this DIY for yourself, because this is home design. Think of it like... someone who does coding to help people have a better running game and then someone literally video tapes themselves doing the same code. This isn't stealing when the entire point is to give advice, especially when some of these advice can also be learned by a Google search.

@shifa444 but the dates don't match up (projects started within days or prior to tay's posting etc) and everything both of them have made has been available on pinterest for years. None of it is really original - and that's good actually. Art is derivative by design. Romeo and Juliet is predated by Pyramus and Thisbe - and Shakespeare TOLD US SO. Plus the things Tay is describing aren't even the same, besides MAYBE the squiggle, which again has been a staple on pinterest for years (since like 2012 if I'm being honest I remember this type of stuff from living in dorms when decals started getting popular). Recalls 2002's Mattel, Inc. v. MCA Records, Inc.: "Aqua's album, Aquarium, has a blue, watery background and contains yellow lettering for the eleven songs listed on the back. In big, rounded blue letters the word "Aqua" appears at the top of the CD. None of the song's lettering is larger than the other, and in fact, pink - BARBIE pink or otherwise - does not appear anywhere on the front or back of the CD case. (Pruetz Decl, Ex. E6). Likewise, the cassette version of the album does not contain any pink lettering. (Id. at Ex. E7). Plaintiff's main complaint appears to be with the CD-single versions of the song. (Id. at E1-E3, E5, E9). However, a review of these packages reveals several significant differences. The cases for these CDs are mostly blue, with a picture of the band on all versions accept the CD-ROM. (See id.). The words "Barbie Girl" appear in pink block lettering. These letters have irregular borders and are shadowed in dark pink and outlined in both white and dark pink. At the top of every package of the CD are large, rounded blue letters spelling the word 1154*1154 "Aqua"; these letters have a white and black outline, with an eye appearing within the letter "Q." The use of pink on these albums differs significantly from the white on pink lettering that Mattel is attempting to claim as its trade dress. The curved, relatively thin lettering used by Mattel is quite distinct from pink block lettering used by Barbie Girl. As mentioned earlier, Mattel offers no evidence that its use of pink or even pink and white is distinct to its products alone."

She's also acting like she started this whole thing... moss mirrors have been done hundreds of times, idk if she started it but I wouldn't believe that for sure since a lot of old art ends up starting trends. The wall art of the stripes/squiggles with figures sticking out of them has been done and I'm positive I've seen it in a movie/show. Who cares about green and blue. Who cares about the gradient shit, I like the trim the other person did also. And the couch just goes with the wallpaper? With the maximalist style it's a lot of the same colors, because that orange is very maximalist. In my head, I even called it “Pastel Pop” design, after the Sims 4 game pack style lol. I recently watched a few episodes of Tay’s podcast with Dani, and there were some things she said in that episode that rubbed me the wrong way. There was something to the tune of-it was a good thing that her parents cut her off, because she learned how to provide for herself (which is fine for her, if that worked for her), but then she said that people who’s parents helped them out were spoiled and didn’t work as hard as she did. It was kind of fucked, and I was waiting for a clarification that not everyone who’s parents are able or willing to help their kids out financially, are spoiled, but there was none. And there were a few other things that went un-clarified, or weren’t very inclusive or thought-out. It felt to me like someone who has only known their experience, and had some strong opinions, but hasn’t been completely open to other opinions or experiences that weren’t similar to her own. This is very similar to teenage-me, as well as how a lot of my high school students act. I really hope that she really does grow from this and can open her mind to see other perspectives.

I saw her stuff pop up in YT shorts and always got a weird vibe that she always mentions how this all started when she lost her job Like ok girl, we get it, you lost your job once, but now you have another job sooo.....? With her following, it's probably quite a lucrative one too, considering she's probably purchasing new and unique supplies/materials consistantly enough to do these aestheitc renovations. Definitely gives off "relatable" vibes, like rich person pretending to be normal almost?? Super weird

Been a fan a Kaarin for a while so this drama really surprised me since she is so sweet and honest in her diy, never a creator could have so much hate for someone doing a fun thing in their house. Also I didn't like Tay's apology because it took her so much time to do it and just after brand's and her wallpaper line was taken down, it really speaks of her character.

The first girl lost it. She was telling everyone she could that she did it first my friend copied. Then that night I went home and did my hair the same way to go her mad. I work with interior designers and they literally order the same shit all the time from the same vendors. Its so common to receive 7 of the same arm chair or sofa for 7 different designers off of one truck. When someone likes a certain style or aesthetic, its bound to happen. I can't imagine a design firm calling out another design firm like Tay did to Kaarin. It was such a reach. 💀💀💀

I don’t think that she only apologised because the wallpaper line got pulled. I think she just needed that final shock of losing something she was proud of over her own actions, to fully see what she did and the impact it had. She probably had the most genuine (“genuine sounding” I guess but innocent until proven guilty) public apology I’ve ever heard. Either that or she didn’t even know yet cause she was probably already planning to make the video.

Nick following crochet artists and wishing he could crochet is so wholesome to me. Crocheting with friends by a lake sounds like so much fun. 😂 As for the drama, I think she was upset mainly because the person inspired by her was also a content creator, if someone makes something you made at home and doesn't show anyone it's not a threat, but she saw her getting all these followers and let herself get jealous, forgetting that everyone has the right to diy AND to make content about it. Giving credit is always nice of you know where you got your inspo from of course but the line can be unclear. Art thievery is such a hot topic in the artist community it gets so messy so fast. People draw lines that are way too strict and way too lenient and everywhere in between. I don't envy being a part of this situation at all 😅

I‘m sorry but then she should stop calling herself a DIY creator and just say she’s an artist. DIY implies you’re welcome to do it yourself and her videos are a sort of tutorial for you. I will also not take any 'but….'s on this because that’s what it has always been. Her style isn’t super unique or niche, sorry. You’ll find things similar to it on Pinterest and that even before she got big. The whole point of DIY creators is to take direct inspiration from what they do. I wonder how all the actual interior designers and artists feel that inspired Tay‘s designs?? Do you think they’ll throw a tamper tantrum as well?

I was working towards a degree in design for a while…there are designers who show examples of their work but charge for individual consultations, and then there’s content creators who generally make money off ads & patrons (vs. irl consultations). If you’re signing yourself up to be one of the two, dude, don’t be mad someone took your free inspiration and used it as just that. Most designers would not show a literal how-to step by step tutorial on designing a space for that exact reason.

But like it’s not like Taybeepboop invented any of those things???? There are 2 European designers and an Asian girl that have the same style and they’ve been on IG and TikTok for way longer than her. Most of her aesthetics can be found in any cafe/restaurant that’s trying to be trendy or different and creative. Literally 2 boba shops in my town that have been open for like 6 years have the same aesthetic as Tay, the squiggles, the random framed heads, which is something people have been doing for decades, AND the moss wall feature. Honestly, I stopped following Tay and her friend Dani ages ago because their designs are so repetitive. And omg, don’t even get me started on Dani.
