The thing about Amazon is generally the shipping costs are folded into the price. When I've done the math I've found the yarn prices comparable because shipping prices can be high at yarn sites. And thanks Elise. You worked hard on this and had a ton of good info.

Very comprehensive review. Thank you very much. I tend to think people that keep their own Ami projects when completed get more heavily into what type of yarn they use, and rightly so. Those who make Ami toys for use know they most likely won’t be treated as display toys, so don’t worry about the yarn too much. Personally, I use HL “I Love This Cotton.” It is soft, not hard on the hands, the sts keep their shape and it stuffs easily without distorting or stretching. (All in my opinion) Thank you for introducing new yarn possibilities out there!

My favorite yarn is drops baby Merino. I order from wool warehouse in the UK they charge me about seven dollars for shipping a bag about the size of a pillowcase full of yarn. It’s on sale so I’m contemplating buying some more. Not that I need it 😂 I live Eastern North Carolina so I don’t have a lot of access to high-end yarn unless I order it. The thing I really like about the drops baby merino is it is beautifully soft and has an elasticity to the fiber which doesn’t cause me hand and arm pain. I also like cascade Heritage yarn. It is beautifully soft as well, and I can find it about an hour away. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Most times here in Indonesia we use small ply soft cotton, milk cotton in several plies, acrylic, chenille and towel yarn. I usually using milk cotton in 3 or 5 ply bcs most times I made keychain amigurumi, it's soft, easy to crochet and I can change the ply if I want to make something smaller/bigger. I don't like small ply soft cotton bcs the amigurumi ended up stiff and hard, not squeeze-able.

I don’t love making amigurumi. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it makes my hands flare up. The only time I’ve made it is for family that have asked for it and it seems like the kids always want stuff made with blanket yarn which I don’t enjoy using and it makes my flare ups worse than using acrylic. The only cotton I’ve used for Ami is K+C cotton from Joann’s which was fine but even with a small hook it left a lot of gaps. But I got to a point where I hated making Ami and would take forever to finish gifts so I told my family that I no longer will make stuffies. (My niece is the only exception because she prefers them with acrylic and doesn’t mind a long wait time)

Have you ever tried canon simply soft. I personally don’t like the feel and it kind of feels like. Mercerized cotton a bit
@EliseRoseCrochet7 сағат бұрын
I have tried it, but I don't think I would like it for amigurumi. It is soooo soft! 🧸

What size and brand hook do you use to make your amigurumi?
@EliseRoseCrochet4 сағат бұрын
I typically use a 2.5 mm Addi Comfort Grip hook! 🧶❤️🤓🧸

From where do you buy your yarn art jeans yarn?
@EliseRoseCrochetСағат бұрын
When I buy in bulk I get it from HobinisYarns.com. When I just need a couple of skeins I buy it from Amazon! 🧶❤️🤓🧸

I make toys from leftover yarn, so I almost never buy yarn specifically for a project.

Scheepjes catona would be the same size as the Catania if you used the same hook size though?
@carolynmcmillan70836 сағат бұрын

Can’t you mix and match different brands to get the best color possibilities? That’s what I would do… 🙈
@EliseRoseCrochet6 сағат бұрын
You definitely can, but I generally don't just because even yarns that claim to be the same weight can be slightly different in their thickness. It drives me bonkers. 🤣🧶🧸🤓❤️
@Femalefirefighter14 сағат бұрын
I can't use thin yarns like that. The lower the weight the more pain to my hands. I use a 5 weight and up. I have a ton of cotton yarn that I'll probably never use.
@EliseRoseCrochet3 сағат бұрын
I understand! I'm glad you found a yarn weight that works for you. 🧶❤️🧸

Would you be interested in making a video about your favorite yarns for knitting? I love your crochet comparisons and trust your opinion. It seems harder to find good, affordable yarn for knitting as a beginner!

I’m still using your old school recommendation - Berroco Vintage, but probably will switch over to the Yarn Art Jeans. I wish they sold it in the USA though.
@EliseRoseCrochet5 сағат бұрын
They are both fantastic yarns! It would be nice for it to be locally sold! ❤️🧶🤓🧸

your reviewing yarn that you can't buy at Joann's, Hobby lobby, Michael or Walmart which is where most of us buy yarn.👎
@EliseRoseCrochet6 сағат бұрын
I decided to review yarns that I see a lot of amigurumi designers using so that we can decide if it's right for us. I primarily buy yarn online and I think a lot of others do as well. 🧶🧸🤓
