The point is not where a person was born, but where he grew up. Gardel was born in France, but he was raised in Argentina, so he was an Argentinean, as well as Alfredo Lepera, born in São Paulo, Brazil, but in Argentina from his early three months of age. So, they were both real Argentineans: no doubt about it. And by the way, neither Gardel nor Lepera "invented" tango. We can trace the origins of this genre back to the end of the XIX in Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
