My former MIL made tamales at Christmas time. She guarded them with her life! Anyone who knew about her tamales would show up on her door step hoping they'd be lucky enough to sample a few. What a great cook, she was. Her chicken & mole (and potato salad w/radishes!) were to die for. And her Chorizo, eggs, and homemade tortillas. I had never eaten so good. Thanks! Lucy.

A commenter, below, said she felt like she was right there on the porch with you. That's what's so great about these videos. No matter what you're doing; whether it's canning, gardening, making scented candles for Christmas, or sitting on the porch, chatting, you make us feel that we are right there with you; a part of it. And it's a great feeling. Guess that's why we keep coming back. And will, as long as the Lord gives you guys strength to keep doing what you're doing. God bless you!

Hearing you two tell stories always puts me in a remembering frame of mind. That nasty ice storm was preceeded by all that rain that froze to the lines. We were fortunate not to lose power or anything, but my oldest sister was 14 days or more without power, water, lights, etc. That is the closest I have ever seen my older sister come to having a nervous breakdown. Could not rest for the terrible breaking of trees all night, had to drive into town to find a place to shower, cook on the outside gas grill or do hot dogs in the fireplace at night. Walled off the living room with blankets to help hold in the heat at night from the fireplace. So thankful that has nit happened again locally! Glad you all are so prepared and can keep it that way!

Oh .MRS Lori you have triggered so many memories of a sitting on the front porch with my Grandma & Grand daddy listening to them talk, that was my happy place. Love porch sittin’ and talking. I well remember the ice storm 2007. I had always had a wood fireplace and could keep warm if power went out. Then I had to move back into town and this house is all electric, I knew I would regret that. Not long after the storm hit and I tried to stay but just couldn’t. The silence and the trees cracking and falling everywhere is something I will never forget. No power for 4 days so actually went north of town out into wooded area and stayed with friends who never lost their power. Tree damages covered a lot of counties, devastating! Thanks for sharing memories and some wisdom here! To all a good night😉👍

That is something i want to avoid: going to the store before a piece of weather. Awful. THAT is why we should "prepare" for bad times, like bad weather (summer or winter), loss of a job, accidents, crop failure (your crop failure or the farmer's crop failure...). All sorts of things. I couldn't do without my cast iron, either. We're going to get a wood stove, and I'm wanting a small wood cook stove 💕 instead of a plain heating wood stove. Love your channel, I'm binge-watching.

my word how do you make chocolate gravy and put on your cat head biscuits.?
@lyndaray96204 жыл бұрын
My husband's mama she's from Georgia she always had a table in the kitchen fed the boys everyday after school all kinds of good cooking my husband calls her biscuits cat eye biscuits and she makes other biscuits so I watched my mother-in-law 1-day wrote everything down. How to make the regular biscuits I watch The Stroke of her hands, and how much time she spent. Moving her hands around in the bowl. So I went home and I made those biscuits. Started off in the bottom of the oven and then you move it to the top. My biscuits turned out perfect laugh out loud just a smidge off just a smidge. Now my husband's been trying to make those biscuits just like his mother. His mouth dropped open when he tasted my biscuits. I felt bad for him he tried so many times. Felt a little shame to myself. so I didn't make them anymore. My husband Jacks Mama died few years ago. He misses her so. maybe it's time to try to make those biscuits again. If they will come out like they did before. I don't know. But maybe this time he appreciate it not be so jealous. but all the videos you make reminds me of my mother-in-law and the whole family. They all moved away now Carolina Tennessee but my mother was from Tennessee Knoxville. I really enjoy your show. makes me feel like I'm home again

I have lived in southern Wisconsin all my 74 years and love it. We live out in a very rural area in farm country. We were stuck in our house for four weeks straight in January to February in 2020 it was a blizzard for days then turned to an ice storm for a few days and it was minus 30 degrees to minus 40 degrees with a wind chill of minus 50 below zero for two weeks. Our electricity stayed on since our electrical lines are under ground. It was amazing in our log home with our beautiful eight acre homestead. We are preppers also.

We retired to a 6 acre northern midwest rural property recently after rehabbing the rundown house for 10 years (while we had our jobs). We came from larger suburbs. We can do without all that traffic and road chaos. What a difference life is on this property without all of the noise, crowds, crabby aggressive people city government strict rules and regs. . We traded it for peace and quiet, nature and wildlife, a huge garden and simplicity. We worked hard for it. I hope that you both are able to get to retirement as healthy and happy as you are now. There is never a day of nothing to do and enjoy on a nice wooded rural property. Its a dream come true. Thanks for sharing your life with us and all you do.

I used to sit at my Gramma's kitchen table and watch and listen to my Mom and Gramma talk and you two remind me of those times. I am 49 now and things just are not like they used to. People dont talk as much. I miss it.

Hi there from Utah, your two year old video fits right in with what’s been going on today! You’d think just listening that you were talking about covid and the freezing cold and snow you’ve been through lately!

In 2005 here in Kansas we had a horrible ice storm too, trees breaking and falling over. By the grace of God none of them fell on our house. The sound is something you don't forget.
