It's the best sounding band I heard live (followed by TOOL), the mix, the volume, quality and of corse the musicians are on the top. High-end live experience, just perfect.

Porcupine Tree really knows how to treat their sounds correctly. You can hear it on their CDs. I love that level of pristine sound you get when listening to a Porcupine Tree record (like The Incident or In Abstentia). Only a small handful of artists give me that same feeling, Tool and Nine Inch Nails being among them.

In 1992, I almost went to school for audio engineering. I was just about signed up and I was sitting across from the school owner and he asked why I wanted to become an engineer. I replied I wanted to learn to engineer audio for surround sound. He asked me why, as if in a huff, like I was crazy. Long story short, I changed my mind based on his attitude, and didn't give him my money. I got into photography instead. Audio engineers stuck in stereo just didn't get it I guess. Steven is a breath of fresh air in comparison to most producers. His music and quality is simply iconic.

@fingerboy18 I bought The Incident 5.1 surround sound mix by PT when I bought my surround sound system. I was home alone, cranked it up, and oh. my. God. It's as if you can actually feel the "air vibrating" as Steven said, the music completely cloaks you and brings you into the experience, as if there is no escape. You feel the mood and tone of the music so much stronger when you play it in 5.1, its an amazing experience. You have to give it a try.

@bassplayer137 it pretty much depends of what kind of mp3 you're talking about. I usually listen to music using 320kbps mp3 files (when possible) with 2 speakers (bought a few years ago) connected to my laptop. Sounds pretty good, considering it was the first "sound system" i owned. 5.1 does greatly improve the experience but it doesn't really change you're perception of music nor does it make an average album a good one.

problem is with presets in many mediaplayers that rip cds in 128kbits mp3s. if they'd atleast use 192kbits... that already makes a huge difference... it can be so easy to enjoy music at a fairly high quality and still having a to of convenience. 192kbit mp3 + adecent(like 100bucks) 2.1 system or 30dollar headphones(maybe not from apple) and it's already a whole new world compared to 10dollar speakers with 128kbit mp3 songs coming from a notebook audiocard.

their point on view on mp3 etc is really understandable, but I have the impression that sometime they forget how expensive is the sound equipment necessary to hear the difference between mp3 and the original CD. You'll probably don't hear it if you're playing your music on your computer with 100$ logithec speakers.
@Zealot_cs6 жыл бұрын
Jayzorus it is not that expensive, and those logitech 100$ speakers actually do make a difference. Look up some high res music and tell me you dont hear the cymbals resonating more time after being struck, or vocals fading away as if someone was talking in front of you. The whole sound is crispier and vivid, it feels like a live performance tbh.

The Best of The Art of Noise cd is an instrumental cd that has the most incredible surround sound on Earth. Another CD that sounds so crisp that it sounds like when you open a can of soda and you hear the fizz is a cd from a latin singer called Luis Miguel. Out of all of his cds the cd called 20 Anos is beyond surround sound. But, you have to listen to the actual cds to notice it. If you just hear it on youtube or mp3 it's not the same. But, try Scritti Politti' Best Thing Ever on KZbin.
