Ok, THIS band is right down my ally! Mix in a little Jars of Clay, U2 and a sprinkling of Pink Floyd (remotely, but detectable!), and we have Porcupine Tree. Don't miss out on this one, my friends!

Thank you for that great reaction! The drummer is Gavin Harrison. Gavin is the reason I discovered Porcupine Tree a few years ago. He became my favorite drummer after one song. My favorite PT tracks tend to be his showcase pieces. I'm going to be boring and suggest you continue/start your PT journey with the "usual suspects": "Way out of Here", "Cheating the Polygraph" & "Anesthetize" live from their Tilburg show. I would say that "Anesthetize" is their Magnum Opus. "The Start of Something Beautiful" live from Chicago is my favorite song from that show. IMO, this band is unique in that many of their songs are actually better live. Enjoy your journey!

I found it kind of amazing that you should mention the Nickel Plate Railroad. My grandfather and two of his brothers retired from the Nickel Plate before the N&W takeover. Grandpa worked as a mechanic at Fort Wayne Indiana. His name is all over the final days of life for locomotive 765, he performed the last servicing of that locomotive. Thank You for the time to reminisce and Thank You for all the music you play.

Hey! Got a minute? Or five, it might be long. I'm not fond of commenting but i feel like it tonight so here i am ^_^ It's funny how i came to this channel some time ago to check out boomer learning about my favorite artist, but stayed to become a zoomer learning about new artists alongside with you. You even made me give Christian rock a try back in the day. Tonight i wanna talk about Kendrick Lamar, the artist you've heard a lot of from other people here in the comment section, but i'll do it a bit differently. You see, all the people who suggest this wonderful artist are slightly delusional about how incredibly tough he is to comprehend for an unprepared mind. I was one of these minds just few months ago (in march, to be precise, that's when i first dove deep into him) and it was really tough to understand hi,. I am a white man living half the world away from LA, ghettos, all of that. He is very deep in the black culture and brings up really tough subjects that are hard to fully grasp. That's why after few months i am still not able to understand his best albums, simply because you need to know a lot to actually feel it. Also he is very unique with his type of storytelling. You see, he loves concept albums, when the entire album becomes a coherent story. Not like Eminem or Joyner where there can be certain themes throughout the album, but actually making the story out of an entire album instead. And this is both good and bad. This is good because it is a storytelling artwork, something to be studied in the future by many. But it is bad because sing about me... Remember this song? Gosh, this is such a bad one as an introduction to an artist. You could feel it with all the references. I have bad news for you, all of his albums are like that... All except one! Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers, his latest album. This album, as per usual, is a concept album but this time there are very little references to his previous works and most of the stuff he talks about he talks about for the first time. This album and its structure resembles a session with therapist. He starts with introducing the listener \ the doctor with the stuff bothering him, causing mental issues. But as the album progresses he starts to reflect more on these issues, just like a person going in depth in the subject as they learn to feel more free with the therapist. And all of this is to finally find the root of his issues at the end, reach the breaking point and actually enter the path of recovering, summarizing it with the epilogue song reflecting on the past events and a way to move on as a better self. This album is separated from others because he mainly talks about mental health and not the topic of racism and social injustice, which have been prevalent in his career. As a person who started the journey of Kendrick not long ago i can tell with all seriousness that for now you should skip everything from his previous albums as it may just throw you off with all these subjects you cannot relate with nor even understand So, yeah, that's what i mainly wanted to say. I have been an Eminem fan for years and i love him to my core, but after learning about Kendrick i actually.. realized that he is an even better storyteller than Marshall. And you can see it for yourself. I would highly, highly advise you to listen to his latest album from the first to last song, in the intended order, starting with United In Grief and ending with Mirror. This may be strange to do reactions in such order but trust me, once you reach the end, you will thank me from the bottom of your heart, just like how you thanked the one who made you start an Eminem journey (was that your son? I forgot). Oh by the way, Kendrick is very religious and there is a lot of it in his songs, especially closer to the end. There is a slight bit of necessary context that i can give you if you actually decide to try this out, so if you want, you can always say and i'll inform you of the one and a half important things needed to know to capture the essence of this masterpiece of an album. I thought i was too old to get excited about music but this one has changed it for me, and its coherent structure plays a big part in it. Actually so much that it makes me find another meaning in life after the woman i loved more than life left me, which left me without much reasons to live for the last months (since march, to be precise. Ironic, innit?). The topic of finding yourself is important in this one and it's helping me not end it all during lonely nights such as this one Edit: to any Kendrick fan who feels like tearing my body apart, let me calm you. I know that FEEL. exists, that FEAR. exists. These songs are perhaps even more worth the listen as they do not require context but also do not require listening to an entire album, but i still stick with the opinion that Mr Morale can introduce to the world of Kendrick better than anything else, as *I* was a person who tried to listen to DAMN first but didn't really grasp the vibe, unless i checked out Morale

Oh gosh! I'm so sorry that your life turned that way. I'm not gonna tell you "I know how you feel" because I clearly don't as I've never even experienced this kind of love yet... but I know too well how it is to be alone with those thoughts of ending the pain every single night. Hang in there buddy! I know it sounds cliche but it really gets better and I am the (still) living proof of that. I'm so glad you opened up and shared your story. Remember you're not alone! This community here is filled with people who went through some messed up stuff themselves and are willing to hand you a helping hand or just be a shoulder you can cry on. Keep pushing forward! I know you can do it! And thanks a lot for what you said about Kendrick. I really wanted to dive into his music but I didn't know where to start. I'm really intrigued by his latest album now. I'm going to therapy myself (thanks to Chris) and I may find it relatable. Thanks!

@@that_averagetyp hey mate. Thanks for being nice, I strongly appreciate it. I am not egocentric and I understand that all of us have to go through a lot. I bet before I was just like you, clueless about how it truly feels to love and be loved unconditionally. My world has fallen apart because she was basically my first love and *the one* who shaped me as a person and made me the way I am, so not having her feels like it's all worthless now. But other people have their breaking points when *their* worlds break and none of us can truly grasp each other's situation. Yet we can all relate to the amount of pain, because it turns out to be the same when you lose something dear to you, whether it's a dream or a person, whether they died or just cheated. When it's important for you it hurts like hell, even if the size of issues is different I truly do think that his latest album is a therapeutic kind of music that helps to reflect on life and that's why I stand for it a lot, that's why I am the kind of guy to just push it all the way because I know, sometimes true art needs preparation, special mindset, certain efforts, but the outcome may be hundred times worth it. I have no idea what you're going through but it may help you, just like how it is helping me. Although at first it was tough. I didnt mention it but I checked out this album for the first time in February and havent gotten the vibe. Despite what I described it's still uneasy to get some of his stuff, like how he explains the topic of "everybody grieves different" merging it with his unusual addiction. And funnily enough, his first 3 songs off the album were the toughest in terms of understanding so I kinda fell off for a while. But then I decided to go one step at a time. Make sessions of listening to 2-3 songs and then spending few days relistening to them until I understand. Then go for the next 2-3, and this way until I reach the end. It is a bit weird that you need to do so much just to enjoy the album to the fullest. I see a lot of people say that they didn't enjoy Mr Morale on the first listen, but after second, third attempt it changed them. On reddit I can see it every other day. So, yeah, I think it can be a great experience for you mate, because it also helps to distracts. When you decide to sit down and do something unusual for yourself, like breaking down an album, you tend to forget about your issues for a moment, and when the days feel rough, it is such a blessing. The realization that you fell asleep thinking not about your issues but about new song you've discovered, it is.. a lot. Such new activities can really bring a light in life and make it easier, *especially* if you get excited and emotional at the end, and I bet you will. Anyways I hope you will be doing well mate. You've got a kind soul and deserve to feel appreciated. I'm not religious but I'll be praying for your ability to move on through all the uneasy stuff happening for you (This little segment is for you if you actually decide to listen to it. Kind of a little non spoiler advice. You see, this album came 5 years after the previous one, DAMN. It's a long ass break and during this time people have been waiting for him. His career made him a savior in people's eyes, quite literally. He is like a messiah for many, speaking on the behalf of his community and their struggles. And so, when George Floyd got killed in 2020, people have been waiting for Kendrick to speak up. But he didn't, and people got mad. This is a pretty important subject that goes through many of his songs here, that he is not a savior. The first song, United in Grief, was a bit uneasy for me. It speaks about two topics, his sex addiction and the money caging / hiding his real emotions, which both merge into the subject of everyone having their own outlets for the grief. It can be considered a spoiler for the song but these topics are important and I didn't grasp them well on first listen which made me misinterpret few further songs entirely, so just keep it in mind. ^_^)

Ok, Chris... we got a problem. I wanted to send the package today and the lady at the post office was really upset that I even came there and interrupted her drinking her coffee and gossiping with her friend. I asked her such a difficult question as explaining me how does the shipping to US looks like, how long it takes to deliver the package, how much it costs and basic stuff like that. She looked at me like I was responsible for all of her life problems and almost yelled at me that she has no idea... it may be two months, or six months, or the package can get lost and it will never be delivered at all. I just smiled, asked if I can get the shipping sheet. She got even more angry because she had to get up and grab it from the shelf which made me smile even more. I took the sheet, wished her a nice day and left. I'm sick of this country already... I'm working my ass off everyday, up to 18 hours sometimes, to pay all the freaking taxes so this "kind lady" can get paid for sitting on her butt and drinking coffee in national post office for 8 hours and can't even do her job... I must pay the freaking insurance every freaking month to not get an enormous financial penalty and when I need to see a doctor I gotta wait at least ten months... so I'm ending up going to private doctor and I gotta pay for it of course... funny thing is that when I go to that private doctor a few days later, that's the exact same doctor that I had to wait ten months for a visit... this country is really beautiful but the government made it such pain to live in. Dang I digressed a bit, lol 😅 Ok, back to the story... Then I went to private delivery company. Really kind lady this time, told me everything. It will be a bit expensive but it will take only 2-3 days to deliver it. She said she will handle everything for me and the little box will be in the plane even today. She just needs my address, the package itself, and delivery address. And there's the problem... the only way I can ship it to P.O. Box is through national polish post office... which means you probably won't even get that package because they will most likely lose it... is there maybe an option to send it somewhere else? Like your friendly local grocery store? or your friend's business with public address? or your work place? So you could pick it up in couple days? I need an actual address to ship it. Unfortunately the P.O. Box won't work... I'm sorry for this my friend... but polish national institutes are still living in the stone age... I bet they still driving freaking Flintstones cars, lol... Feel free to refuse my friend, I'll totally understand it, but if there's any safe place I could use as a delivery address... it would be cool. Please think if that's possible and let me know. We could exchange it via email or some private message on tiktok, ig, fb or something. There's a little gift and quite a lot of your favorite polish snacks already packed. Don't make me eat them all by myself lol! 😂

@@larryshair There's no way I can send it. The only way you can send something to a PO Box is to send it via Post Office or FedEx. They can deliver the package to the post office and their worker can put it into specific suite. I drove to the nearest FedEx facility and asked them if it really works. The lady there didn't know but she called the manager. Dude really wanted to help, he checked everything couple times and you're right, it is possible to use "Suite 'number' " as an address... but only when you send the package from US. Unfortunately I can't send anything to any PO Box. Well... that's pretty messed up. I'm really sorry bro... I really wanted you to have this little thing... and those sweets too 😅
