Dude, I am a Porcupine Tree crazy fan, and I cannot tell you how happy I am for you that listened to this!!! If you're willing to go down the Rabbit Hole, you will not stop! If you're interested in next steps, you NEED to listen to their song Anesthetize. It's a long 17 minute eargasm. You should do the LIve version of Anesthetize filmed in Tilburg, but interestingly about this song, Alex Lifeson of Rush ASKED Steven Wilson (the founder of Porcupine Tree) if he could do the solo for that song. And so he did. This particular song came out on their 2007 album - Fear of a Blank Planet. Speaking of which, the band toured (after a 10 year hiatus) in Fall of 2022 and they filmed it! You really should listen to the live version of the song Fear of a Blank Planet from that recent 2022 tour, along with another song from that tour called "Harridan". But here's a list of other "bangers" by them: Bonnie the Cat, Open Car, Blackest Eyes, Shallow, Halo, Anesthetize, Mother and Child Divided (Live from Chicago - 2005). That's a good starter list, but I'm just telling you, every song is a gem! Happy indoctrination into Porcupine Tree!!!

In my opinion Porcupine Tree is the premier progressive rock band of modern times. Band members are all virtuosos and leader/vocalist/guitarist/composer Steven Wilson is a bona fide musical genius. Wilson is also a renowned studio engineer who has remixed classic albums from Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Rush, Gentle Giant, and many others. Drummer Gavin Harrison is the best in the business (Neil Peart was a big fan of Gavin's). Like Nightwish, Porcupine Tree is best seen live! (I would highly recommend Anesthetize and Hate Song from their Tilburg 2008 show)

What a fabulous thing to wake up to this morning. I got so nervous given how long it’s been that it might be an anti climax for you. So glad and relieved that you liked it. Hope enough people are open to checking it out to make the band work for the channel. Some people struggle with the longer songs but for me those bands that take you away from the normal headspace for a while are priceless. Yes there’s is a brilliant live version of this track from a 2005 gig in Chicago or you could check out ‘Anesthetise’ Live from the Tilburg gig 2008 which is generally thought of as another magnum opus by them. They came back with a new album at the end of 2022 and toured all last year after a 13year hiatus (whilst the main writer Steven Wilson focused on his very successful solo career- another rabbit hole) and they have lost none of their brilliance. Hope that you can slot in some more into the rotation and would be happy to provide you with a guide but others have already thrown up some good options (although ‘Bonnie the cat’ is a maybe a more niche track??) Generally studio is amazing but live is even better. Thanks for giving it a shot and sorry to keep hassling you.

Only one slight "disagreement" with scifi's comment, the word between "Chicago" and "you" in the 4th line of his comment should be AND not OR lol. Although perhaps a 2nd disagreement - the word "could" should be changed to "MUST!" Arias - offically welcome to I believe probably the greatest live band in the world and to Steven Wilson, THE musical genius still active in the music world today. This is not a rabbit hole you have entered, this is a black hole into another musicverse. Strap yourself in.

That guitar solo (starting at 10:15) was by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. He also did backing vocals for this song (and few others on this album). Steven Wilson produced few Opeth albums. They had this collab "Storm Corrosion" together back in 2012. You have entered a true rabbit hole with Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth. Welcome. :D

I’ve been into this uniquely talented group since 2001 when I first heard the song “ Dark Matter “ off their Signify album. At that time, PT was actually changing to a more metal driven sound when they released what’s considered to be their finest album, “ In Absentia “ in ‘02. They would then follow that up with “ Deadwing,” which is also a strong piece as you’re discovering. But if you’re interested in their earlier material when they were more Ambient and Pink Floyd influenced, I would recommend “ The Sky Moves Sideways “ album. Wow, talk about a journey ? That album is a true, conceptual joyride. 👍

This is the content we're here for! What a song; what a band; what an impact. Twenty years ago I went from never having heard of the band to owning half a dozen albums in the space of a few weeks. Deadwing was my second, and is still one of my favourites. The band is fronted by, and the brainchild of, Steven Wilson; along with his many solo releases they comprise some of the best music of the last 30 years - indeed, his/the band's discography runs to many hundreds of pages! I'd suggest ... Without making this too long, if you enjoyed that you could spend the next year doing only Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson solo project (he's the singer, songwriter, on the whole, and guitarist and sometimes keyboards) and a few of his other projects like No Man, Blackfield and Storm Corrosion. I believe him to be a musical genius of the past three decades, he never seems to fail to disappoint. As someone else has pointed out in a comment below, his live stuff is phenomenally even better in most cases if not all. I've been a fan for twenty odd years and I must admit I envy this rabbit hole you could pursue and your first time listening to this stuff. What I would give to experience my initial introduction to this artist afresh. Good hunting mate.
