Colin’s bass and Gavin’s snare are synchronized to one time signature, while Steven’s guitar and Gavin’s cymbal bell are in a different time signature. Hence, Gavin is playing two different rhythms at the same time!

This song was cut from Fear of a Blank Planet (the album with Anesthetize) and was featured on a B-sides collection after FOABP came out called Nil Recurring. Makes sense why that guitar part was re-written for Anesthetize, it was so good they couldn’t leave it off the album! I like the different arrangement and polyrhythms going over and under it here more I think, friggin nuts!

7:19 I love that you guys recognized the Anesthetize riff. But they did not switch to Anesthetize, the songs were probably written around the same time and Steven Wilson re-used the riff for one of those 2 songs. Don’t know which was written first.

Gavin's drum part is in 7/4 but he he plays triplets over the top so it resolves every 3 measures. Some of the most complex music I've ever heard. Pretty amazing!
