Agreed. Also suggest Cheating the Polygraph, Hatesong, Fear of a Blank Planet and Start of Something Beautiful. Looking forward to your reactions.

Again: good choice and great reaction. I probably saw them about 10-15 times live. And the thing is, the actual live concerts actually are as good as this record g of it. These guys are flawless live and their live sound is amazing. One of my all time favorite bands. Keep it up!

So much to say... First, thank you for diving into this band. I've said it many times, this is the greatest band that almost nobody has ever heard of. I saw Gavin Harrison in an interview one time talking about simultaneously playing with different time signatures with his hands and feet, like it was no big deal. It might have been left hand vs. right hand... whichever, still mind blowing. I wish I could remember the song or the interview, sorry. I actually found this band while searching for Gavin Harrison content. I saw a video of him on Letterman during one of his drum solo weeks. I stumbled upon Porcupine Tree. I could not believe how incredibly tight this band was on stage. Their live music is just so damn good that a year plus later I'm just now starting to make a dent in their studio work. My favorite Gavin Harrison showcase piece is Cheating the Polygraph live from Tilburg. The video title says Live from Anesthetize.

Try Anesthetize and Way Out of Here from the same Tilburg concert. Gavin Harrison's drumming is mind blowing on these tracks. Worth a listen!

I've seen PT live once in 1995 they opened up for YES at the tower theater in Philly Awesome. Also saw Steven Wilson solo twice once in Philly and once in Chicago he is Genius

YES and PT in one show?? how cool

@@BigBeatReactions I saw another comment from someone who had been at that show and they also commented that they felt sorry for YES. How are you meant to follow PT? PT effectively embarrassed them.

Gavin 7/4 time signature with triplet 3 on the ride. Every 3 measures it resolves. I don't know how he does it, but he makes it look effortless. So impressive!

@@BigBeatReactions just be sure to have the lyrics for the chorus up on your screen as this is one of those random tracks where SW deliberately mixes the lyrics back just for the chorus to force you to go and look up the words. Again - just part of the genius of the man. Never gonna make it easy for anyone and never allows anyone to take anything he is involved with for granted.

Hey man, 'love your PT reactions. I see that you haven't made any reactions in a while, but I hope you're still on the lookout for good music. Since you're big into drums, check out Aric Improta - EXU ft. Justin Chancellor. And FYI, Justin Chancellor plays base for Tool (another band with one of the greatest drummers of all time).
@brianpercival18292 жыл бұрын
David Letterman held a Battle of the Drummers for 2 weeks. Gavin Harrison won it easily. Even against Neil Peart who I totally respect. On YT Gavin shows a pair of sealed drums to his left side, attached is a foot air pump and can change the pitch of the drum sound for an effect.

Loved Neil Peart as well - but much as Neil had the speed and the technique, noone matches the creativity, feel and just sheer fun & even humour that GH seems to inject - and he NEVER plays the same fill twice. Even in the same song at the next concert. He has stated his greatest fear in life is to see someone in the crowd at a concert successfully airdrum one of his fills..... even he never knows what he is gonna play next.

Awesome! You have so many more of these headed your way. You have no idea. I see you have Anesthetize cued up. That one sets a bar. Hate Song and Cheating the Polygraph showcase Gavin Harrison. Also White Mist by his new project Pineapple Thief!

You’re in the rabbit hole now! Ok, so first, Tilburg is in The Netherlands. And second, I’ve never actually played an instrument (plenty of air guitar and drumming tho! 😆). My feeble brain could not grasp what I was hearing/seeing. But there is a video that explains the middle section quite well, with a big dose of humor 😅 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6Tbp6eCgtaKoas Happy to see you are enjoying the trip!
