Lightness, perhaps the keyword when you experience the Art of Driving in a Porsche 718 Boxster T. But lightness comes with tricky decisions when you option out your 718 T, you don't want it to become heavy. It was a privilege driving the Boxster T in Michelin Porsche Slalom Cup, hosted by Porsche Club Sweden.

@@artemusifasuenshuffleman8535 disagree. The 981 GTS and GT4/Spyder were better than many of the 911s of the same era. The boxster Cayman had finally crawled out of the hole Porsche dug for them only to be thrown back in a deeper, darker hole with the crude removal of the wonderful 3.8 NA engine.

Thank you for clarifying that the Boxster is indeed still a very very good car, even with only 4 cylinders ! The driving experience is awesome. Lots of people make their opinion and judge only on what they see and hear on you tube but "the real thing" is so much different. I am lucky to own a 718 and still enjoy every trip that I make. Janko. I have watched all of your 718 videos, and a few of them more than once. I am deciding on an order this week or today even. Two months learning and choosing. A. Is the 20mm sport pasm low for bad roads, speed bumps, and general daily driving vs 10 mm pasm? And Cayman S vs T. I cannot decide. One car for all things. Winter driving, weekends, going on dates, and mountain driving. I do like power and i am currently in a manual Mazda MX-5 RF, nd2 (newer engine version).

@@JankoLind i am a subscriber:) your opinion is the most useful, along with your nemesis, Nick Murray. I wish i could take you shopping with me to choose the perfect 718 for me :) I agree that the 2.0 and 2.5 are the most fitting motors for the 718. Choosing between S and T is an extremely difficult and fascinating task. 4.0 is too twitchy. And so heavy!! Terrible to make a 718 so heavy without a Spyder build behind it. Wonderful vid and BOLD opening statement. One I agree with, of course! 😃 But I'm biased. For me, if they had placed the same gear box in the 911 CT as they did the 718 Ts, it would truly be perfection. The 7MT is the only weak spot of the 911 CT imo. Less IS more! SS

A bit confused by the claim that the manual gearbox in this car should be "completely different" than the base Boxster. Isn´t the gearbox EXACTLY the same in both cars? There is no specs difference at all, at least that I know of. Or have I missed something here??

Another nice review. I agree that to really appreciate the 718 and the flat four, it helps to understand Porsche's history. I have always loved the feminine, curvy lines of my Boxster 987.1 because it is more reminiscent, to me of the 550. The history and lore of the 550 is what drove( pun intended) me to the Porsche brand, unlike many others which originated from the 930 Turbo posters of when they were kids. I see my 718CGTS as a distant offspring of the 904. The headlights, fenders, rear end all ooze a Porsche heritage that is totally distinct from the 911. Sometimes I feel Porsche really fell down on the positioning of the Boxster/Cayman. I guess it was just too easy to let it slide as the poor man's 911 and tempt people to upgrade to the "real" Porsche someday rather than sell them on a different mid engine family tree. In any event, all this leaves me with one question. When the hell are we getting the 718T in the US?? It'll be a classic and registered as an antique at this rate. Car was announced in December, IIRC and we can't even spec one on the configurator yet. Come on Porsche, get your act together. You're just being a tease...

You've gone off the deep end Janko. I agree that Porsche could have put a 4 cylinder engine in the boxster. They had a good one in the 968. But they did not. So now the boxster lives not only in the dark shadow of the 911, but also now it lives in the darkest shadow of the flat 6 boxster. The 981 GTS and Spyder were much more compelling cars than any of the 718 range. At least the 718 has one fan.
@JankoLind

Don't agree, when the flat 4 was introduced to the Boxster and Cayman it becomes its own breed standing on its own feet. It feels great that we could share a different opinion. Spyder and GT4 stand on their own feet.

Update. I got a base in the end but with PTV, SC, Sports pipes, PASM, manual and a full leather and carbon fiber interior and PDLS+, sports seats plus, GT steering wheel and Bose stereo. So it’s like a luxury T 🤣 I love it.

Maybe it's been told somewhere - are you keeping the 992 or trading it for the CayT?
@JankoLind

Nja not sure, I will sell the 992 and perhaps order a new with MY spec. But there is a GT4 and Spyder also. I have not made up my mind.

Why is the exhaust pipes move that way when accelerating? Is it due to the pressurized exhaust gas going through it?
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the heat and pressure makes them move, that's why there is a distance between the end pipe and body. IF you are not already, please consider subscribing.

Would you add the ohlins shocks on the boxer T as you did on your cayman t. Track days not priority. Thanks ciao

The Boxster T was a loner, not mine, but if it was mine I would ad Öhlins Road & Track. Taking pothole and bad roads out of the equation it increases the comfort level. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Can’t help but thinking it’s a VW GOLF R engine in a Boxster mmmmm ! for £60,000 in the uk my choice would be a 981 spyder that would evoke a lot more feeling and happiness on the road it’s not that long ago Porsche would do everything in its power to persuade you not to buy the bottom spec 2.0 cayenne , now the engine is mainstream , 🤔🤔🤔
@blobinfishgames1235

TACADO1 euhh a 2.0 cayenne? And btw this is a flat 4 engine built by Porsche and not the stupid i4 vw engine.
@TACADO1
@TACADO1 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry Porsche Macan not cayenne not that into the suv , which uses the same engine as a the golf gti 242bhp and Audi TT badged as Porsche but those engines come from the VW group , As good as the new turbo engines are I’m still not getting the feeling of anything more than a lightened audi s3 golf R group, I’m probley in the minority’s but the new era is becoming sterile in my eyes losing all the feeling of older models , no doubt it is a good car but I would never consider a 2.0 sports car it just doesn’t crave what I need from my driving .
@blobinfishgames1235
@blobinfishgames1235 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I defenitly get you. I also prefer a 6 cilinder engine ofcourse, but this is just the way it is nowadays. But anyway the flat 4 in the 718 is a masterpiece of design.

What do you think of the boxster t pdk
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 5 жыл бұрын
I wanted a PDK I would look at the base model. Perhaps its cheaper to by the T if you would like a PTV. I would not buy a PDK Cayman T as with the Carrera T.

Is the Cayman and Boxster T only being produced for a limited run? Does anyone know of its lifespan? Is it a set amount of cars to be made?
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, it is not a limited edition, its a matter of finding production space. The future will tell how many that was produced, like the Carrera T.

Great vid again Janko, but cannot love this car. Engine just sounds terrible, front and rear styling is plainer than previous 981. Porsche dumped flat 4 years ago in name of progress and this is a big step backwards. Yuk!

The flat 6 is the better engine...the 981 Cayman’s will be the collector cars. There is a reason a PDK was not offered in the last gen GT4,,,,because it would have outperformed the 911. The manual held it back performance wise. The new GT4’s that are coming out will also have normally aspirated flat 6’s as well. I wonder why?

Hi Paul, As Michael explains (thanks 👋) the T have a different engine and from the base version it is 20 kg heavier. The T is also equipped with driver focus options and some of them are not available on the S. I have made a review of the S, link below. No the base models gear stick is not as connecting as the one on the T. Then you have all the drivers attribute on the T. BUT as a daily, the the standard 718 is spot on.
