I think the GTS is the sweet spot of all Porsche’s, you have a daily that can be tracked and that will keep you comfortable on a longer ride. I have a 2022 Frozen Berry Metallic GTS 4.0 with PDK and love it. She’s my daily driver and my weekend backroad rocket. Such a lovely vehicle. Puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. Great video

That was a very honest review. I have owned multiple watercooled Porsche sportscars and currently own a 991.2 GT3 RS and Cayman GTS. What you rarely hear is a Porsche owner call it "true". Its usually you must own a GT division car from both motoring journalists and owners alike because they are the "best". Simply not the case and as a daily driven sports car in the real world there is little that betters the Cayman GTS. Fun, practical, quick, agile and good round a track. Its all about corner speed not HP.

Agreed. I have my 911 series 2 convertible for my weekender for days I want to drive like the lady I am with manners and when I want to rip it up I take out my gt4rs to get to vent off the stress of caring for the family. They are totally different yet love them both. I must say the 911 being a manual is actually more enjoyable at slow/low range but the gt4rs comes into its own when it’s highway time. The ultimate would be the gt4rs in manual as the pdk system ruins the raw experience!

Nice review man. I just picked up a 2021 718 spyder in Python green as my daily driver. Been about 2 months - and I will say - i personally believe all the reviews stating how raw the car is, are very blown out of proportion. I got the sofas 2 way seats and they are incredibly comfortable and supportive. The suspension is very nice and the car rides incredibly smooth and handles rough roads just fine. “Back breaking” is definitely not a phrase I would use to describe it. I upgraded from a 981 base cayman and it rides much nicer than that. Also the clutch is very light. Def 100% acceptable for a daily driver imho. I should prob also add - I’m 34 years old - so maybe young compared to the average person buying at gt4/spyder but I wanted to present an unpopular opinion to the majority.
@hbullock Жыл бұрын
Hello, fellow pg spyder owner! I love my car, but I also wouldn’t say it’s ideal for daily duty, unless you have a high tolerance for a rougher and louder ride. I do have the lwbs, so that may be part of it. Obviously, personal preference is huge here. Epic cars, regardless, but I do think you need to be of a certain mind set to enjoy the spyder/gt4 as a daily. That said, the spyder is in a whole other class, looks wise, imo. Bgts is a great looking car, but the spyder is sublime.
@tgemz3376 Жыл бұрын
@@hbullock Hey man - congrats. I would def agree that the spyder/gt4 isn't the IDEAL daily driver. A corolla or hybrid accord would fit the bill for that - but given the car the spyder/gt4 is, i think it is very reasonable to be a daily and i wouldn't describe it as harsh in any way. Sport exhaust shut its actually very quite even with the roof down. Maybe someone coming out of an S class could describe this car as "rough" but i certainly don't think so. So far every person that has ridden shotgun has been surprised at how smooth and comfortable the ride has been.

Me personally, i'd go for the GTS. As a daily driver, the GTS would be alot more easy going and relaxing. And with British B-roads being how they are, the GT4 would result in a much more uncomfortable ride. I haven't taken my own 987.2 Cayman to a track yet, but I plan to later this year, but going to a track in general is something I don't really do. So i'd feel like i'd be wasting away the GT4's potential if I did buy one. So whilst i'm sure the GT4 feels more special, i'd much rather have the GTS purely for the most usable daily aspect of it. Besides, it really is basically a road going GT4 , which would suit me perfect.

I owned a GT-4, GT3RS, and the 718 GTS 4.0. I took German delivery of the GT-4 and drove 1,800 miles in Europe. It was a blast, went on Autobahn 130 MPH to 155 MPH sustained at times for 15 to 20 minutes. It was months later delivered to USA. I literally put 800 miles on it over the next 3 years then sold it. Front lift was not an option on GT-4. I would scrape the front coming out of my own driveway, over speed bumps, sometimes potholes. Although replacement of the rub lip was relatively inexpensive, it was constant mental anguish. Amazing car but track car. I am impressed you can daily drive it at all. The GTS 4.0 is only consideration between the two if you actually DRIVE as a daily.

I‘m watching this video hoping the GTS would be close to the GT4 because the GT4 is my dream car and now that Porsche announced they are going to stop production the price for used GT4s went up from 100k€ to around 120k€ Not a big problem if that‘s stable but if it climbs up (especially in 2035 when petrol cars get killed) I fear that a Porsche GT type of car will no longer be something achievable. I want an old school yet modern NA sports car with actual aerodynamics. No fake vents, no fake sound, manual gearbox, mid engined- a proper sports car. The GTS has 10mm more standard ground clearance than the Spyder/GT4 and you can also no-cost option (as I did, and Porsche UK generally also does with its GTS Press cars) a further 10mm raised suspension to cope with rougher road surfaces. The fact that you’re now 20mm higher than a GT4 is visually noticeable and the car doesn’t look so good, but the tradeoff in ride comfort and peace of mind makes it worthwhile. The fact that Porsche UK seem to do it on their Press cars implies that they also believe that the standard GTS suspension is too low and hard for UK road use, let alone the even more extreme GT4 setup.

They were at the same price. It’s a question of better lap times on the track or having more fun in virtually all other situations. To my surprise I thought the GTS was easily the better road car. The suspension was tuned for the real world and it felt more fun/forgiving for NorCal canyon roads. By contrast, the turn in on the GT4 felt sharper and there was definitely less give in the suspension. It’s easily the better track car. If you are not tracking regularly, for a daily driver/canyon driver I think the GTS is the one to go for even at the same price. I’m surprised more journalists aren’t singing praises for the GTS 4l. I guess there’s no replacement from trying them first hand.

I'm surprised we don't see more people modifying water-cooled Porsches by dropping in a shorter final drive ratio into the differential. All of them since at least the 9X7 generations have really long gearing. It would be an instant jump in engine responsiveness. I assume Porsche uses the ratios to improve fuel mileage but an owner who doesn't slavishly respond to the "upshift" cue probably wouldn't notice much difference.

New GTS for same prive of use GT4 … sure but then see what’s the depreciation for both cars in 2-3 years. Gt4 will be cheaper one I think.
@neilturner6749 Жыл бұрын
The video cost comparison was wrong as he’d mistakenly included PTS paint in his GTS price (only an idiot puts PTS on such a “cheap” car). Used GT4s are currently 15% more expensive than new GTS but as you say, GT4 depreciation will probably be less and the difference in total ownership cost might be marginal. Personally I went “new GTS” because I like to spec the car perfectly to my taste and don’t trust first-owners of used cars to have “run them in” sympathetically or warmed-up the engine before maxing out the revs!

Actually, the best one of all is the Spyder. Best looks, GT car, two tops, slightly softer for street use, and much more special and collectible.

For me the gt 4 is one of the best looking cars, prefer it to the 911s, absolutely love it. But a billion potholes, speed bumps and I'd find it too stressful, I have a 981 s, in sport plus it feels embarrassing/stressful driving through town so you never do. Review was great 👍

GTS for me. As ridiculous as it sounds carmine red, full leather option and burmester make it my sweet spot.

The GT4 is not able to drive into a parking house due to the low front bumper (Bőschungswinkel). The lack of a lifting system is a great, the major drawback.

It is nice to be able to have the choice between the two, for me however, i would have the GTS 4.0. Main reasons are, i dont go to the track, like a Sunday afternoon drive with the wife, like to do a longer trip and have the extra comfort. I am biased as i have a 2015 GTS Boxster and i bought this over the spyder model. There was a significant price gap, GTS being less expensive by almost $ 15k, which was part of the decision. In terms of being a head turner, everywhere i go, people look at the car, mind you that is without other Porsche cars around.
@neilturner6749 Жыл бұрын
I bet you wish you’d bought that 981 Spyder now because it’ll surely be worth way more than $15k more than the GTS!

I love my BoxEngine served as flat six naturally aspirated just like organic German beef or unsweetened cultured yogurt. When the engine are running idle l naturally gravitate towards the sound of the GTS and I’m sure to like the leaner power delivery as I chase the Rev in a GTS. Now that’s my considered subjective opinion, on the other hand having a boasted GT4 option is fantastic and it is tuneable being a turbo so this would suit certain drivers more than the GTS.

I ordered a GTS 4.0 because I couldn’t get a GT4 allocation as a first time Porsche customer. Took delivery in September 2022 and love the GTS but still wish I could have got a GT4 slot! I don’t daily it so practicality is less of an issue and feel like the GTS is missing a little bit of added excitement that the GT4 gives. The GTS feels like a gateway car for me.
@69FOSTER Жыл бұрын
When did you place the order for your GTS before it arrived in September? I'm thinking of placing an order for a GTS and want some idea on how long I would have to wait for the arrival. Do you know if it is any easier to get an allocation for a GTS now as opposed to a year ago? I was considering the GT4, but not having purchased a Porsche from a dealer, it doesn't look possible for me.
@tomlloyd4164 Жыл бұрын
@@69FOSTER placed deposit with Porsche Centre in May 2021, car arrived September 2022 so about 16 months. From what I was told when collecting, the wait is now longer if you can get an allocation at all. Worth asking around different Porsche Centres though!

Nice video. It’s a tough one and both are considerations for my next car. The GTS 4.0 PDK is currently the same price as a manual GT4. The GTS is more liveable but visually less exciting and less dynamic when pressing on from what I can gather. For me it’s a weekend car and also a car to do road trips in. Conflicting use cases!

You have nailed it. I myself thinking between gts or gt4. I doubt I'm ever going to be going to a track day so the gts appeals to me. But th looks on the gt4, just makes it that little bit harder to decide. About a month ago there was a GTS 4.0 on autotrader and it had a wing put on. I was really tempted to go for it. I suppose that will be the one to get. I'm not sure if there is an aero kit available

thanks mate, how about the ride stiffness and comfort between GT4 and GTS 4.0. I drove a friend's GT4 PDK a few days ago and felt it quite hard and stiff, comparing it with the ride of my Cayman 981 S with SPASM it's like night and day....the 981 rides much more calm and comfortably...it's a really noticeable difference , is it the same case with GT4 and GTS 4.0
@MrHCars Жыл бұрын
GT4 definitely rides a lot stiffer (but still forgiving) & the GTS is definitely the better / comfier driver. But, when pushing on, the GT4's suspension comes into play a lot more. Just really depends how you plan on using the cars
@neilturner6749 Жыл бұрын
I can better answer this as have a GTS 4.0 and regularly drive a GT4 previously. If you don’t opt-out of the (Standard) SPASM on a GTS, then there isn’t a huge difference between them. If you opt-out of SPASM on a GTS and select PASM instead, you soften it off further by a small amount, but it’s still too stiff for everyday UK road use in the Sport setting and every owner I know leaves it in comfort unless track-daying it. I think there is an age thing going in, because when I was 25 I would’ve taken the harsher SPASM because it gives the cars a slightly lower stance, but now I’m 50 I don’t give a s*** about that !
@salsubaru Жыл бұрын
@@neilturner6749 :-))...i see...for me probably GTS 4.0 with PASM (just -10mm lower) is the best way to go....the ride is the first point but the major one is the GT4 front bumper...i still feel that this will be the most frustrating thing with this car and even I love it, this will make me suffer at almost every parking and ramp....
@jay_b.. Жыл бұрын
I am considering the GTS/ GT4. If they introduced a front-axle lift system like they have in the RS, it would be amazing for UK roads. I love the look of the GT4 but am thinking it will be tough to get around the fact that it sits much lower and thus affects ability to go over bumps and inclines

Unfortunately, the 718 GT4 and Spyder have been discontinued for the 2024 Model Year. Luckily, there’s many on the used market as they’ve predicted more 718 GT4s and Spyders than they have GTS 4.0 so there’s lots to choose from
