My oh CRAP!!! Moment was years ago while changing the rear brakes on my Jeep grand Cherokee. I had the Jeep up in the air on jackstands and I was braking the lugnuts free and the whole thing rolled back off the stands and came crashing down to the driveway. Thank God my legs and hands were free from destruction.

BMW 318 front calipers are a bolt on replacement for the 914 front brakes and frankly an upgrade from the original brakes.

Great tip, Jim. We did see that as an option. It does require new hard brake lines, as the ports are different. And our understanding is late 1972 and newer production 914s require grinding of the caliper body to fit.

All four of my 914 rubber brake hoses burst at the same time. I never had that happen before. 50 year old brake hoses are about 25 years too old.

Certainly "oh crap" if you're driving at the time all four hoses burst!

@@CollectorCarGuru Luckily we were bleeding the brakes when they burst. I had already ordered new ones. I was just checking the condition of the rest of the brakes. Ultimately I had PMB rebuild all four calipers. The rear ones with the parking brake are tricky to get right.
