You nailed it on the rust issue. ALL cars of that era rusted away with prodigious intent. It's only the ones we cared about that got notoriety for it.

Nice video, but the seats and the stearingwheel of the car are a nightmare.
@johngeren10536 ай бұрын
The driving position would be better with the original deep dish steering wheel. You seem to be at full stretch on this one. Those 5 mph bumpers are very heavy - nearly 100 pounds each. Removing them will improve performance in every respect. The other end of the gear lever directly moves the shift forks. There is no linkage, which gives a great, positive feel. Spica fuel injection is great - fully timed, a throttle for each cylinder, easy to adjust and tune, low maintenance. A Spica twin cam is one of the best engines ever made from the 'easy maintenance' perspective. .

We replaced the bumpers that were on there with better ones, and indeed they are heavy! (Not quite 100 pounds -- more like 60.) We were given a set of chrome bumpers, which we gave to the buyer of this Spider.

How did you fit those seats?
@CollectorCarGuru Жыл бұрын
The long-term previous owner fit the seats back in the mid 1990s. The seats/frames appeared to simply bolt to the existing factory holes.

A lot of hyperbole here. There's mention of it being faster than contemporary Porsches but a '78 911 does 0-60 in the sixes while the Spider does it in ten if the 2nd gear synchro isn't weak. And unless you're including fairly costly mods this is not a track car - there's entirely too much chassis flex and body roll in the corners. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful car and I love my Spider but not for any of the reasons listed here. It's a great candidate if you want a pretty little thing at an accessible price and makes wonderful noises as you're cruising down to the beach. But if you're looking for real performance thrills the best Alfa Spider is a Miata.
@CollectorCarGuru7 ай бұрын
We'd argue there's very little, if any, hyperbole in here. (If you consider "super cool", which is subjective, well, alas, we guess you got us on one.) It might come as a surprise, but Porsche made other cars than the 911...and the Alfa's contemporaries also included the 914 and 924, which were outpaced by the Alfa. As for 0-60 times, most published times of the era utilized two people in the car (per a common standard of the time.) When new, the 2000s would pull 8.8 seconds. And nobody is talking about track capabilities...nor is anyone trying to make a head-to-head buying decision against a Miata, which (as the Car Guru himself, having owned two NA Miatas) would point out, is like comparing a Fuel Injected '57 Chevy Bel Air to an M5. The Miata is a "better car", but it's also better and more reliable vehicle than the Lotus Elan, of which it was a more-modern copy, but the Elan is more fun to drive and more comfortable for tall drivers. So which is better to own, or more enjoyable? That's subjective.

@@tired261 "FUN TRACK DAY CAR" means autocross or club track day, which is a far cry from your assumption we were describing it as a competitive club racing car. Most track days are simply for fun - exploring limits of your car while building skills. You're implying Spec Miata or Spec 3 type racing.

Hello dear, I saw your KZbin channel and understand you are a KZbinr. Very nice video on your channel, I really enjoyed it. Total 1.48+ subscribers and a Total of 3,64,956+ Uploaded videos of your channel. According to your channel, I noticed that your channel videos are not viewed and subscribed. You need to optimize your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. If your channel is optimized a little and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow. And monetization of your channel will be on.
