Great stuff. I had no idea about the 928's issues, especially with the motor mounts and air leaks.

Definitely! If the engine is not running turbine smooth, it’s time to check the mounts and for air leaks. Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊

I replaced my worn out steerinig bushings with Delrin ones and they make the car steer like new again! Also - I have an early 86 so I replaced the Cat with an X pipe and the sound is way better! But not replacing the pumpkin muffler with an RMB since it is loud enough with a nice growl. Keep up the great 928 content!

Hey Herman thanks for another great video, I love the way you edit. Regarding the rubber on the engine can you give me some advice on what thickness and strength you’d recommend. Cheers from New Zealand.
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 20 күн бұрын
The best material is actually thin rubber pads used to isolate heavy machinery. A few thin 5-7 mm pads sandwiched in will work great. After engine is lifted, stack them in little by little. Important: get a strong light so you can see everything! Thanks for watching watching brother! 👊👊

Thanks for posting your real life experiences with the 928. I was looking for reviews on the Speed Mount. My collapsed engine mounts on my S4 don't bother me. Are there any consequences for not replacing my engine mounts? Perhaps the Speed Mount might buy me some time. I figured I would change them when my steering rack and oil pan needs service.
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 18 күн бұрын
If you’re motor mounts are shot, give the Speedmount a try!! The driving experience will be elevated… Go for it man, it’s worth it. No consequences from my experience, just smoothness that makes the 928 more enjoyable! Thanks for watching! 👊👊

I love your videos. Thanks to them I’ve decided to bought my second 928 after a long break, the 928GT. The car had the engine mounts replaced 4 years ago by the previous owner (I have an invoice for this - 2 mounts for 660 euro), but the car vibrates a lot at the idle. Why? I have a mod of RMB and X-pipe (briliant mod!!), could it be because of that? Ot maybe they just installed volvo mounts (I red somewhere that they are shorter) or it was just done wrong?What do you think Master ;)
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 14 күн бұрын
That’s a fun beast right there!! 🔥🔥 If $660 includes the labor, then for sure it’s got aftermarket ones. If it’s just the mounts, that’s about the cost + labor. The X-pipe will add the most vibration, does it still have the secondary mufflers? Or is it completely open exhaust? Check the muffler hangers, they should be rubber only.. One thing that the 928 is very sensitive towards is the insulation inside, under the mats. If it’s missing, the car will feel terrible. Make sure this dampening material is installed (front, back, hatch area), it’s even thicker on the 1990+ years. Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
@michaciachowski860
@michaciachowski860 14 күн бұрын
@ oh yes, it’s a beast and it’s sounds like a beast :) This is how this cars should sound! This cost was only for parts (in 2020) , labor was a different story, because it was a huge service. That's why I'm surprised that the car vibrates. The engine, when I move the throttle, moves quite noticeably relative to the body so the mounts are working.
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 14 күн бұрын
If they used factory parts, it’s a well serviced car. Next step is to mount it on a lift and check the exhaust for rubbing. That’s the same setup I had on my 928GT, I even had solid transmission mounts. It should be very smooth

Just be aware the RMB is a great update but the downside is increased drone sounds at highway cruising, at least this the case on the 32v cars.
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 17 күн бұрын
Yes, it’s definitely louder and aggressive. It’s still less noisy than modern V8’s like AMG’s or Corvette’s. The best option would be an electric cutoffs just before the final muffler, to switch it on/off. Thanks for watching! 👊👊

@@HernanSpeed yes, you can actually use a vacuum actuated exhaust valve. I have this solution on my exhaust. The valve is partially closed when there is high manifold vacuum (idle and cruise) and then the valve opens fully under high load (accelerations and WOT) simple and effective.

I'm just wondering how much these parts cost and what the labor cost is for each modification or hours I mean. I can calculate the hours with my mechanic when I buy my Porsche 928.
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 18 күн бұрын
For the motor mounts, you have two options: oem or aftermarket. Many people put in Volvo motor mounts without issues, cost is about $150. The labor is the biggest expense. For an experienced tech with air tools, about 10-12 hrs…more if it’s his first time. Make sure that your mechanic knows 928s before servicing Thanks for watching! 👊👊

I’m torn between buying a 911 997 and a 928 S4. I know your brother is more of a 911 fan. Herman which would you purchase between the two? I think I know your answer, but I wanted to double check, 🤔

You must go drive them! One of them will speak to you! I can tell you one thing that’s for sure, there are more ‘mint’ 997s for sale VS 928s. Condition is a huge factor when buying a Porsche 💯 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊

How big of a job is it to actually replace the motor mounts?
@HernanSpeed
@HernanSpeed 20 күн бұрын
It depends. An experienced master tech with air tools can do it in about 10hrs. If done at home for the first time, it will be many times that. While in there, it’s a good idea to do the pan gasket and check for leaks everywhere. It’s one of the bigger jobs. Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
