This video just diagnosed an issue that I've had the entire time I've owned my 88 turbo, being a high idle. I found out that the throttle springs have gotten week over the years of sitting and 100,000 miles. Thank you so much for this video! Now I just have to find a new spring

why buy a haynes manual, when you have NC944er.

Great show mate. Question my inside door lights on my 944s is not coming on and I checked the fuses which were ok as well. Do u know what could it be?
@NC944er3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, assuming you’ve already checked/replaced the actual light bulbs, the next most common issue is the door jamb switch that sits above the door catch bracket. When you open the door, the plastic switch button should slide out to complete the circuit and activate the cabin light. 1. The switch could be stuck, try to pull the plastic piece straight out to see if it activates. 2. The switch contacts or its connectors have rusted from exposure to moisture. Remove the switch (one screw) and clean/inspect the wiring to see if you can get it working. Otherwise the switch can be replaced for around $16. 3. If you’ve been experiencing battery drain, it would point to this switch as well since it deactivates the driver window relay that allows you to raise/lower the window after the key is turned to the off position before opening the door. When the switch is faulty, the relay keeps running and eventually kills the car’s battery.

Hi-Love your videos, nuanced details that matter and occasional music that's perfect! My throttle cam has been updated and my car runs terrific-no issues-BUT...I do not hear any clicking or micro-switch actuation in the throttle body when I crack open the throttle. It's simply not there! My car is an '87 944NA built May '87.Any input?
@NC944er3 жыл бұрын
Hey Stuart! The throttle position switch used on these cars is the same part number for all model years, so the behavior should generally be the same. If you disconnect the throttle cable from the cam and actuate it then, can you hear anything? If so, the cable was probably adjusted too tightly.

@@NC944er Thanks! I'll try that-BTW there is slack in the cable as it's set up now-but will check! Appreciate the feedback!

@@stuartwatson6849 If you’ve got noticeable slack in the cable, the test result will probably be the same with the cable removed. You may want to leave well enough alone if everything is working correctly, but here’s some more info if you’re interested. Due to some differences in the TPS design, the turbo cars are more likely to present the irregular idle or no-start conditions, whereas the NA cars with a faulty switch may only see poor power / acceleration and a reduction in fuel economy. In addition to the cable adjustment, the switch itself has a positioning adjustment controlled by two screws under the throttle body. It may be that your switch itself needs realignment. Here’s some steps from Clark’s on testing and adjusting the TPS : www.clarks-garage.com/pdf-manual/ign-03.pdf

Hey! I was adjusting my throttle cable and noticed I don’t get a click when moving the cam. Car runs as per usual. Any reason I wouldn’t hear it?

My throttle cable is loose but my cable doesn't even look like that 1986 944 na automatic
@NC944er Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the automatic cars have two cables… one is the primary throttle cable as shown here and the other is a throttle kick down cable that leads to the transmission (tells the transmission when to up-shift when accelerating). The adjustment principle is essentially the same, you wouldn’t want excess slack in the lines.

@NC944er I tightened up the slack and the car is running better but still needs adjusting what a pain, the car was sitting for 10 years and getting it to a safe car has taken me 2 years. I really wanted to do the Helena meet this year but looks like I gotta try for next year.

@@BennysBenz Yeah man, the struggle is real. I’m 4 years in and I’m still chasing things down. 😂 Years of sitting doesn’t help all the rubber oil seals on these engines unfortunately.
