My 991.1 S2 PDK had to go in repairs after an accident. I got a brand new 992 Gts PDK for a few months. Whilst it was fast I just couldn’t get on with it. There was no connection to the car and engine and I could barely hear any engine noise! When I finally got my car back….oh boy I was smiling and at that point I knew I could only ever change for a naturally aspirated upgrade!

Very good choice if you can get the right price. For a used one a well specified 991.1 Carerra 2S can give almost the same driving experience without the widebody and extra power and should be much cheaper. I have a C2S with PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono and they drive very similar. I recently looked at buying a GTS but the cost to change from the C2S wasn't worth it. I will definitely look at one of these next time round.

I know this is an older video, but- Good review, like the channel! I subbed. I’ve been looking for a used GTS to pick up. Here lies the problem: I believe every car KZbinr has stated (many times) this car is a good value, and “ticks the performance options for less money”. I am here to say, this simply isn’t true, partly because of all the high praise it gets, I believe. This car is not a value used, it is highly sought after, and production #’s are much lower than Carrera S models. So in reality, i can get a used Carrera “S” with most or almost all of the GTS options for less money than an actual GTS with lower miles. So this value option is only true if you buy new, and the dealer doesn’t mark up the order or car your buying. People are going to blast me for this, and it’s Ok, 911’s are massively overpriced in the last couple years, especially the used ones. I’m actually trying to find a used one that is 991.1, and they are either beat up and abused, or just simply waaaaaay too much money for what they are. I know the 911 is a classic, and a great car overall, but there simply is too many other “fast” car options now that are not only faster, but less money. Will they hold their value as well? Probably not, but unless your buying a GT3 used or new, these cars are not good investments, they will still loose money and depreciate, but because people are treating them that way, nobody that owns them is actually driving them, they garage queen them to a life of short weekend drives to cars for coffee, which honestly is a travesty. I guess the biggest thing that bothers me is that cost of entry into the 911 club is so expensive now you have to choose between sending one of your kids to college or having a car. Or your just simply so rich you can do both, and chances are your not a car guy then, your just a super rich guy who will buy a 911 and not know the real difference between it and a C8 Corvette, something many of my friends are telling me I should buy instead. Porsches are not cheap, never have been, i get that, but when did they become the car for the “super” rich only, not for the guy who does “well” but has to be smart with money. It’s a real bummer, honestly. I guess if I found out I had like 5 years to live, I’d probably buy one anyway, but how else is it justified? I would certainly end up divorced, then I guess I’d need the car to go on dates 😂

As an a 991.1 GTS PDK owner, I fully understand your point of view. I bough mine a year ago, same as in the video, and price higher by 15k than 3 years ago. I was fully aware about this, obvioulsy not happy with this trend, but fuck, we have only one life. My kids have the proper size for the moment to fit on rear seats. Buy a nice exemplar with low kms and proper config, and you will see back most of your money when you will sale it. Last NA with terrible sound, only 2 years of production, wide body, superb wheels, exclusive carmin red paint, GTS carbon interior,.. so all goods points to keep his value. This is not a risky buy. And what a pleasure, sound, accuracy, look, really feeling to drive a special car... No turbo hence also better reliability. In a close future, we even don't know if we will still be allowed to use it, so enjoy now! Otherwise, if you don't have the money, you have cheaper very good options like AMGs, Jag F type, Lotus, Corvette....

I agree that this car will become a future classic. Jason, as well as others, makes the point that it has an intoxicating sound track that is lost in the turbos. Everybody knows the benefits of turbos but the engagement that you get with a manual NA car cannot be replaced simply by more torque and speed. In 20 years, when EV's are much more common, it is cars like this that will attract real petrol heads.

Steel brakes have the same stopping power as carbon ceramics. The difference is that the steel brakes fade faster when used intensely repeatedly, really noticeable on track. Weight is a second factor, but much less noticeable. For daily use, steel brakes, especially if they are Porsche brakes, are just fine. A third argument is the look of the car changes for the better or worse depending on the trim you select for it.

My car (991.1 C4 GTS in Carmine Red) is almost identical to this car. Drove it back to back with a 991.2 GTS - of the two, mine was the car which made me laugh out loud. Gen 2 car faster, no doubt. But what's important is how the car makes you FEEL. My car won that contest hands down. The naturally aspirated flat 6 (430ps) is a masterpiece. Absolutely intoxicating once you go past 4500 / 5000 rpm and just gets better and better to the red line. Addictive! Like a racing car. Everyone wants a manual - but they are like rocking-horse sh**. Great review Jason, agree silver wheels would make it pop. “Hand cheese” comment was the best yet, another one for the The Car Guys dictionary alongside “Beanage”

Great review again. To me one of the best recent Porsche. Which one do you prefer: this 991 gts or the 991 R ? And does it feel as fast as the 996 GT3 you’ve tested ? Thank you

We haven’t driven an R yet but it’s quicker than the 996

Thank you for your answer, and sorry, I meant the 991 T that you sold prior to getting the GT3 Touring. Thank you for all your great reviews, it’s a real pleasure every week.

Finally someone is recognizing the 991.1 🙂 the last of the normally aspirated Carreras… Finally someone with an independent views, and not surrendering to the manufacturer’s bullying to promote their strategy

Perhaps the reason why the Alcantara on the steering wheel feels so nappy is because there is NO Alcantara on that steering wheel!?
