The 993 is my favorite 911 of all time so thanks for the video! It is really great! To me, it isn't just the end of aircooled engines, it is also the end of a philosophy in term of engineering and design. The car is compact and its curves remind a lot of all the previous Porsche cars, from the 356 and the 901 to the widebody race cars (911s and other Le Mans prototypes). Plus the car is bulletproof. This car was real a gift from Porsche to all the enthusiasts. Ferry Porsche died in 1998, the same year as the 993. I think that there is nothing more to say...

@TimsEnthusiastGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and congrats on your 911. The shift knob and hand brake handle were factory options ( there were literally dozens ) and changing these can make a huge tactile change. In terms of original options, they are all coded on the options sticker so hold on to those bits in case you ever sell! This car had a k&n filter, stock air box and sport exhaust with larger tips. These aircooled cars are surprisingly sonorous even with factory exhaust parts. This is also one of the few cars where removing the mufflers still sounds amazing and tuned.

@TimsEnthusiastGarage4 жыл бұрын
John Smalls the tip in the 993 era cars really changes the experience quite a bit. While it does feel like a “classic” 911 the transmission isn’t quite up to the true sporting and raw nature of the car. The 993 is arguably more timeless. Perhaps more collectible long term but the 996 is starting to come into it’s own. As far as the 996 six speed those are about as good as you can get. Faster than the 993, more modern, more solid in terms of chassis strength, and absolutely at the bottom of the depreciation curve. I think you would probably enjoy the 996 more.
@maxmeier5324 жыл бұрын
When i look at the prices only I really wonder about the price gaps (almost as big as the 993 front hood panel gaps, zing!) between the same models. You could get a 993 c4 for 60 grand or 120 grand, and from just looking at the pictures or the description you wouldnt know the difference. So the question is, how do you as a buyer find a fair price?
@TimsEnthusiastGarage4 жыл бұрын
Max Meier great question. I think for me it’s originality and condition. The irony is sometimes the more expensive car is the wrong choice. Ideally you want to find a car with all original panels and paint and then sort of microscope the service history. The C4S is a pretty fantastic car but in my opinion really is hard to justify an over 85k price tag for one. I would also say that in terms of negotiation I am usually pretty ruthless. If you are a buyer and confident in your ability to buy know that this makes you a rarity. There are a lot of tire kickers and few actual buyers. I have bought many cars listed for 100 for the 70s and cars listed in the 50s for 35 or so. Find the car that you Know To be the best and then negotiate the best deal.

armin1971 right now on value and collectibility the 993 is valued much higher than the GS. I have had an absolutely stellar ownership experience with the GS and in general have had better ownership experiences with modern Porsches vs aircooled so, for me this would be an easy win for the GS. It’s less than half the price right now and a bit faster, sounds more flamboyant and is an amazing all arounder. Check out my video on my GranSport! Cheers and thanks for watching.

armin1971 please don’t overlook the 996 if you’re looking at the 997... there are a bunch of good options in the 996, and the prices can’t be beat. For the cost of a 993 you’ll be in decent 996 Turbo range. Or you can look at one of my favorites, the C4S. I have a ‘99 C2 with 157,000 miles, and have put 26,000 miles on it in 1.5 years, and after my initial maintenance splurge (IMS, RMS, AOS, Clutch, Tires) it has been flawless. I’m still into it less than $18000, but if I had it to do again, I’d have bought lower miles, done the same maintenance and been under $25k

The 996 fantastic ugly plastic water cooled and lets you pretend you are experiencing the 911 feeling. 993 and under is real 911 air cooled get real its like wearing a fake Rolex and thinking you are the part.
@TimsEnthusiastGarage4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Air cooled cars certainly have a lovely flavour. The 996, 997 are extremely capable and are clearly evolutions of the 911 motif. The fake Rolex analogy is a bit much as these cars are all Porsche. Even the 993 tt uses watercooled heads. At some point evolution demanded newer tech. Even as Rolex left their modified valjoux movements for new in house movements, the watches have gotten better through time. A vintage day date pairs very well with a new Yacht Master or Milgauss. In the same way no true Porsche fan would be ashamed to have a 964 Carrera or 993 parked astride a 996 3.6 or C4S. Drive a 69-73 and then a late 80s CS and you are likely to think that the 2.7 in the ‘69 has a magic that the 3.2 car lacks. In many ways it does but they are both lovely Porsche cars. Each car has stronger points and weaker points to deny the heritage is simply not understand it at all. A Rolex is a Rolex, a Porsche is a Porsche. Thanks for watching!

huge fan of the 996?`Ehm? That car is hated by people who know porsche. Got to be an american thing
@TimsEnthusiastGarage5 жыл бұрын
MemoryLaneCinema amusing. An American thing? Even before I posted my 996 videos Catchpool, Harris and Bovingdon were all on about what undervalued cars the 996 were. Hated by people who know Porsche? Mate, I recommend you try one out. There is a reason values are on their way UP. Quicker than 993, greater chassis rigidity, and objectively even the styling is starting to look a bit pretty if I dare say so myself. Are the 996 era cars the best 911s? Certainly not and I am not making that statement. In fact in this video I am simply saying that the 993 is at the top of the heap when it comes to the aircooled era. In much the same way the water cooled era cars are benefiting from evolution. That being said one of the things that is driving people into 996 ownership is how LARGE the new 911 is. The 996 deserves it’s place in the 911 lineage and on the plus side points of view like the one in your comment will keep values lower than they rightfully deserve to be. I appreciate you watching and your opinion. In the end I guess it comes down to the old saying, “theres a butt for every seat”. Cheers!
@MemoryLaneCinema5 жыл бұрын
@@TimsEnthusiastGarage mate? I have driven a 996. I have owned a 993 4s, 997 s and now the new gt3 so I think I know what I am talking about. Been a lifelong 911-fan. In Europe the 996 is hated. Most for the looks and looks matters!
@TimsEnthusiastGarage5 жыл бұрын
MemoryLaneCinema enjoy what you drive ! I don’t personally find the looks that off putting. I own and run everything from a Lotus Esprit to a 190 2.3-16 to an Alfa 4C so perhaps my interests are too broad to have a proper 911 opinion. I have owned 15 or more 993 , about half that number in 996 and 6 964 over the years. If I had to pick an absolute favourite 911 of all time it would be either a friends 1969 2.7 911S or a 991.1 GT3 RS. I have done several thousand miles in 991 GT3 RS including time at Both Nurburgring and On mountain roads in Europe and that car is just the absolute definition of “911” . I have had some amazing drives in 996 c2 and gt3 so it’s hard for me to hate it. I quite like the front and rear treatment when I see them going down the road. They are starting to look “period correct” inho. Again, i SOOO appreciate the input and dialogue. Would love it if you subscribed. Cheers!
