Look to the outside of the track on your turn in, the single cone on the outside is your turn in point that will optimize the radius of the turn and get you down to the apex. This way you will be set up for the coming turns...once you miss one apex on a flowing section you miss them all but other wise good driving

Thanks for the post. Yikes! Watch those early apexes!

Thanks for the feedback, will experiment with different entry points next time.

First off I think that you are a really good driver. You're smooth and have solid car control. As far as those entry points we're only talking about a foot or two at the apex. With me it works when I tell myself to "be patient" just as I turn in. Seems to be just enough time to keep me from being that foot early.

Awesome track setup in that car as I understand it. There is just something about the noise of the 3.4L motor I don't like though and it has nothing to do with exhausts or anything like that. It just sounds "lazy" compared to ALL newer 911 motors... you know what I'm saying?

Its call naturally aspirated. Most new Porsche (including the base carerra) are turbo to meet emissions. This is what a fine NA car sounds like. Personally love the sound

Seems the tires weren't very grippy, judging by the amount of tire squeal they aren't track tires

NT05's are track tires (200TW) and very grippy - overall great street / track compound. They will make noise at the limit - they were gripping very well.

Recommend a 996 for my first track car? Or should I get a Miata or e30 and put 10k into them? I’m torn, great laps you were rippin ✊🏻

Thank you! I would recommend a boxster over a 996, more balanced and arguably funner. You'll build skills that transfer to other platforms whereas the 996 you'll need to learn to drive specifically for it to go fast. Miata is great too. I haven't driven a E30 but would recommend a E36 instead - the multi link rear end design is far better than the E30 trailing link design. Of all the cars, the E36 can be made into the fastest car with the same investment. It would be my choice if I was starting over.

Is that actually a fried egg light 996? or a 997? Either way...dude is killing it!
@Grip_Addict6 жыл бұрын
Mark Whelan it's the fried egg 996 - 1999 year model with cable throttle, limited slip diff, and the 3.4 liter.

Are you running front and rear GT3 arms? Seems like a great performing car for the modest mods you've made!! =) I have a 99 as well.

I no longer have the car, miss it very much. It had GT3 control arms front and rear, I believe lower control arms only - but don't quote me on that. The rear engine layout generates immense grip, it's a different driving style but can definitely put down great lap times and is a joy to drive.
