This is what a Porsche should be doing. "Never been tracked" is an almost sad comment in a Porsche for sale ad.

Nice lines. Like what you’ve done and still doing to the 996 to make it confidence inspiring and reliable at speed. No monstrous horsepower necessary on track. The no-misfire shifter is worth every hard earned dollar when downshifting into corners. Great job.

Last time I was shopping for cars it was either a 996 or e39 M5. Ended up with the M5, is was a fun beast but I just sold it. I think it is time for a 996! Looks like it rips on the track.
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
I was debating between a 996 and an E92 M3, happy I found this car - had a lot of recent maintenance done and was a good base to turn into what you see in the videos. The cars are not without issues so it does pay to find the right car for you. It’s a blast on track.

Nice driving. 996 are definitely an underrated Porsche. I don’t see the deep baffled oil pan mod on your list. I think that is almost mandatory for any tracked M96/M97 Porsche.

Factory LSD? I am having my 996 delivered this week and it does not have an LSD, trying to figure out what route to go.
@jasonp9783 жыл бұрын
Open diff. The gearbox is actually out now for an OS Giken LSD install. For now, my opinion is you can go pretty far without an LSD and I cant say I FELT like I was really held back for not having one... I am reserving the right to change my mind once I have it installed. Stay tuned, update video on the car for next weekend with some pretty cool stuff. What are your plans with the car use and mods wise ?
@Triple_A_Dogs3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonp978 Really looking forward to the update on that! I actually just took delivery of my 996 30 minutes ago. 3 days from NJ to CO! I didn't expect to get it until later this week actually haha Thinking of Suspension (Fortune auto?) Short throw and new knob O.Z Wheels Recaro seats Momo steering wheel From the sounds of it a new power steering unit (maybe serp belt?) Brake fluid replacement, pedal feel is kinda meh Needs a new rear bumper Front bumper needs a respray Replace the current headlight assembly I paid a pretty low price for the car, There is a part of me that wants to flip it. I am looking to put a 991.1 or 991.2 GT3 in my garage, maybe end of the year if everything works out the way I want it to, and from the things I've been reading I may be better off just holding off for a track "weapon" This may just be a hold over as a canyon carver until I have everything in place for the GT3

Car seems to perform nicely (and sounds great). Have you done any mods to preserve the engine (bore scoring, ims etc)?
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
Car has a direct feed IMS bearing. As far as bore scoring, run a good racing oil. Other reliability parts: 2QT deep sump and spin on filter, UAOS. Oil is changed very regularly, like every event.
@juliank9114 жыл бұрын
@@jasonp978 I've just watched some of your other vids (what I should have done before asking my question) but all tasteful and we'll chosen mods. I hope to be getting back into 911 ownership soon after a long hiatus and am looking for a nice '99 996 which I'll build up over time to similar mods and usage as yourself. Thanks for the content!
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
Awesome, glad to hear you like the vids and you’re looking to get back to 911s. I’ll try to keep the good content rolling. Couple more track days this season and then we decide what the car needs for upgrades over the off season, should be fun.

Nice driving! Thinking about building a 996 track car myself, has it been reliable for you? Also, what camera set up were you using and how did you mount it? Thanks.
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the props on the driving - its something I will continue to try to get better at and I've got a long way to go - so fun though ! I've been happy with the reliability - I do think you should take into account what you can do to aid in reliability in your build. Deep sump/an AOS solution (I went with UAOS)/the right oil and frequent maintenance. Thats beyond all the stuff you would do in making a road car reliable (IMS, Suspension integrity, tires etc...)If you look back at some of my videos I go over a lot of what I have done and the reasoning behind it. Using a GoPro 7 in a GoPro bar mount attached to the roll bar. If you look in my video here you'll see the setup when I go over the roll bar kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2WTiqWAisuMbNU

How do you manage your tire temperatures? Are you able to drive like that for more than 3-4 laps?
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
Lap times do not show degradation over a session but since my last sessions have been plagued by traffic it’s hard to tall. I don’t really do anything, just trying to find the limits. Car and tires (PS4S) a lot more capable than I am. Although I do plan to go to stickier and wider rubber next season.
@marktsui014 жыл бұрын
@@jasonp978 Do you feel the car getting more slippery? I used to have Pilot Sports 2, and now have Pilot Supersports, I find the car gets more slippery as the session goes on. Do you think your upgraded suspension made a big difference? I have stock suspension on my Cayman, and I think it can benefit from more camber.
@jasonp9784 жыл бұрын
TUNKBUSTER maybe a little more slick but the car has a lot of grip as is. I think as the car is, I am still pretty far from limits. I run about -2 of camber front and rear and the car weighs under 3K lbs. I think a quality Coilover will generally be a big leap in performance from a stock setup. I did not track my car with the stock suspension, it was quite worn when I replaced it.
