Shihon Lam I wouldn't buy a auto sports car either but I can see why. Some people have disabilities that can't be overcome so the only way they can enjoy the car is in auto. Then there are the track rats who just want the fastest lap times. You'll certainly get that with theTips/PDK. I can't knock them for that either. But for a daily/weekend driver, definitely 6 or 7 speed MT.

That is a really nice looking car, you should be proud of all that work. Very nice indeed. As for the stereo not working, check the fiber optic cable and make sure it's not damaged and also plugged in properly. The fiber optic cable carries light signals instead of typical electrical signals and connections and any damage, break, or bad connection will cause it to not work. Hopefully it's a simple fix. Good luck!

I installed the CSF radiators as well. Took a couple trys as they were a bit new for the Turbo, but their customer service was really great and they have been great in the car. They are soft so the front one gets a bit beat up, but the process is pretty easy. I used a vacuum filler for the fluid to remove the air from the system first which made filling and burping a snap. You'll probably know with a visual if yours are ok. I hope it all goes well! Franny!

The dealer I bought the car from said they did it however, I am suspect of the true of that statement. She is still dripping a bit of oil. This winter however, I'll be dropping the transmission to inspect it along with the rear main seal. I may just go ahead and replace it with the LN Engineering solution so I know for sure it is correct. I also cut open my oil filters and inspect them closely. I haven't seen anything of concern yet. I also added a magnetic oil drain plug.

The 4S is a great car! Yes, I have had to put some money in her so far however, it is still a great deal to get a 4S at a reasonable price in the 996 generation. Values are looking to improve as well according to Excellence magazine. With the IMS bearing, I still believe it is over hyped. The percentage failures is statistically rather low (I think below 10%). Having said that, it isn't a bad idea to replace it if the system is open for a clutch replacement or if you see oil shards in the oil filter. When I do my clutch, I'll go ahead and replace the RMS and IMS.

I love the grill on C4S and the kit for the rear spoiler is very nice, but if you spent 28 on this car, with all the money you're putting into it and the obvious neglect it has undergone (the opaque headlight lenses are giveaway number one that it sat out in the open)...I think you may have gotten soaked. Word to anyone looking at one of these...get a good prepurchase inspection from a shop that you can trust. I own a 996 C2 Cab. I walked away from 3 cars at PPI before I found mine...a 2000 with 25k miles in very good shape. Better to blow 7-800 on a few wasted PPI's than buy a $18-28k car that is a timebomb.

Man the weather up there must be very hard on cars. For the miles, you have had to do a lot of work. I have over 125k miles on my 2003 986 S and had to replace the AOS, which killed my cats, so I put on some NHP 200 Cell Exhaust Headers, Secondary Cat delete pipe and topped that off with a Borla muffler. I did replace my starter as it started to squeal now and then at start up and also did a headlight restore. Other them those items, regular maintenance.

Hey man nice 911 paint looks great I know u did wet sand and I have 2005 997 and black paint I have lot of swirl marks from previous owner and I was thinking wet sanding paint just lil and compound and polish that just curious to know how many passes I should I do over the paint with 2k sand paper when I wet sand paint bcz I don't want to go deep in paint Paint just have light swirls I bought chemical guys polisher and previous I had 987 booster that was silver and swirls don't show that much
@BusyDadsWorkshop
@BusyDadsWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would advise against wet sanding. The paint on my 4S was a very bad respray with very bad orange peel. Your best bet is use some strong compound such as M105 from Meguiars with various pads to see where you can get the paint. Then move into polishing to bring the gloss up. It is more involved in that however, this is just a General suggestion. Porsche black paint is usually very soft so it shouldn't take too much aggressive compounding to improve the finish.

how do you think a porsche 4s will keep up on salty winter roads? i live in sweden and they salt a bit but my job makes me travel and use a business car instead for daily driving to my work, i want a car who is fun to drive and good looking but is not a money pit( breaks all the time) and have good rust protection :)

If you keep up on maintenance and have dedicated snow tires, the 4S will do just fine. If you get a lot of snow in your area, you might want to get a vehicle with more ground clearance. If you take care of it, it will take care of you!

You are right, the car wasnt treated well by the previous owners. Or was the built quality that bad to begin with in 2004? For a 13 year old car with 80000 miles on it, it looks very worn inside and out. Always a bad sign, cause you know someone didnt take maintenance seriously in general.

what do you think about the tiptronic gear box? it seems those cars are the best deals out there. I want a 6 speed but I've seen cars with same year and miles for 3-5k less. What's your take on it. thanks
@BusyDadsWorkshop
@BusyDadsWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
+John Smalls yes, you can find the automatic version for a bit less money. However, you need to ask yourself what do you want? The reason you see 6-speed coupes going for more is the desirability of the car. There is a certain experience that you get from a clutch car. The rev matching dropping a gear, the exhaust burble when changing gears and the fun of throwing that left foot down. Both versions are great cars but I personally prefer the clutch.
@jordaneverettross
@jordaneverettross 7 жыл бұрын
I have a 2000 C2 Tip. Coworker was selling it and it was kind of an impulse buy... would have preferred the 6 speed and while the early tips are a bit quirky once you get the hang of it it's quite fun. For example when going around 65 mph on the highway and you want to downshift to 3 and go WOT you either have to double tap buttons on steering wheel to get to third which places you in manual mode for around 10 seconds OR double pump gas and car will quickly downshift to 3rd... or just drive it in manual mode. If you were simply to floor it I find the car downshifts only to 4th gear. The buttons actually work quite well and transmission is quite responsive (for old tech). You get more parasitic loss with the auto so top speed is 171 mph vs 174 (you shouldn't ever get that fast on a public road and fastest I've gotten it on a straight on track is around 125) and your 0-60 time suffers but if you aren't the most adept shifter the tip could end up being faster....
@theplayernkc
@theplayernkc 7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your Tip may have an issue. When I stab the pedal to the floor she downshifts to the proper gear without any need for double pumping the pedal. I actually have a blast with the Tip, love hitting the corners and keeping both hands on the steering wheel and still be able to shift gears.

Great car. Mines a 2003 4S in Seal with 60k miles. Was super disappointed in the Maxflows (mine were not even louder than stock, huge waste of $2100). How are you liking yours? I switched to the fabspeed cup exhaust which was a huge mistake; love the exhaust note, but the drone is unbearable from 2400 - 3200 and now everything in the interior shakes. Looking to go back to oem with gundo hack.
@BusyDadsWorkshop
@BusyDadsWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
The MaxFlows that I have are just the mufflers I don't have the rest of the system (yet). I like them but yes, it is not as loud as the OE in sport mode. However, mine were pretty rotted out so I wasn't sure how it was supposed to sound. When I replace the cats, I will be going with Fabspeed's x-pipe and foregoing the cats. In PA, if you drive less than 5,000 miles, you are exempt from emissions testing. I am well under that mileage cap. I also need to replace the headers.

+Triple Emce I set a particular budget for what I was willing to spend. I happened to come across this one only about 15 minutes from my house. With the options this had I felt is was a good choice. Plus many of the turbos I looked at were not virgin cars. A lot of them were tweaked and modified. I was looking for something as close to stock as I could find.

When your done get friendly with wd-40. You can spray it in the fender lips and your quarter lips. Spray it on the water drain holes on the bottom of the doors. If your wipers have steel arms when your cleaning it wipe them down with wd-40. You can even do under the rear hood and jams it's a great preserver 👍

Thank you for the reply - have you experienced any engine problems after you work? Heard stories about misfiring etc due to bubbles in the cooling system. I looked at the CSF:s but they are a little too expensive. I went with the OEM Behr ones.
@BusyDadsWorkshop
@BusyDadsWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
+Andreas Bergius I didn't have any problems. There is a pretty simple procedure that I found online that when you start up the engine you rev it a few times to suck the coolant through and keep filling the reservoir with the vet valve open. I think it was on Pelican parts website. Just don't forget to close the valve when done like I did or you will end up with a coolant mess! 😆

BusyDadsWorkshop your advice is needed. 2003 C4 S. Only 23,000 miles. Car is pristine almost brand new condition. IMS has Not been done. He came down to 38,000. Do you think that's worth it or should I try to negotiate further?
@BusyDadsWorkshop
@BusyDadsWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
Interceptor1255 I would have a solid prepurchase inspection done. At 23k miles the ims should not be a problem. However, the seals should be checked out and see how the oil looks. I would try to negotiate a little. It's a super low miles car but every dollar counts. Check the tires for dry rot cracking if it has sat a long time. If you have to replace them it will cost $1,500 for Michelins. Good luck! 👍
