All horsepower is real after gross power was discarded in favour of net. The issue is modern cars are so god damn fat that 800 horsepower feels like 300.

That is because of the very good CW x A. A relatively small car in todays standard. I experienced that in my 996.2 GT3. Sure not the fastest car but between 250 and 300 I doubt there is another car with around 400 PS which accelerates faster.
