Just ordered two sets for my two fobs - 1999 Carrera - now to watch the video a few dozen more times so that I'll be ready when the kits arrive. :) Also need to find my soldering iron....and some solder braid.....

Hmmm. For the two key fobs for my 1999 996, one fob has only one button...which apparently still works but does not do anything....and the other fob only has two buttons...one of which is missing altogether. Interesting to see if it works when I replace the two buttons on this one

It was worth a try. I soldered in two replacement buttons on the two-button remote and with the new battery, the LED light does not light. So the problem is probably the circuit board. I give up. I will just lock it with the key. I would caution anyone wanting to try this to make sure they have the skills to do small electical part soldering. I may have fried the circuit board trying to do the repair. It ain't as easy as it looks on the video.

Just fixed my 2 key fobs. This is great saved a lot of money not having to buy a new key, have it cut and programed by the dealer. Thank you.

The electronics has nothing to do with the key being cut. The key can completely transfer to a new key fob shell.

I got a dead battery. Can't open the hood to get to the battery, When I use to fuse box lead to provide power the horn starts honking. Am I looked out? WIll the key fob buttons stop the honking horn?

anyone know any tutorials on how to fix the transmitter area on the board? I replaced the switches and tested them with a multimeter and the led light lights up if manually triggered with external battery source so I know the led is good but does light up not when pressing the buttons. Thanks

I noticed that on your video' when you were working on the second switch, you soldered the first tab and then you spun the circuit board around to solder the second tab. Unfortunately you reapplied solder to the first switches tab and completely missed the second switches second tab. you might want to revisit that fob.

Have now wasted considerable time replacing one of these microswitches but unfortunately the switch seems to be 'normally ON' instead of 'normally 'OFF' !!! Very strange as these microswitches were supposed to be for my specific model of 911 (996). It is very difficult to actually contact the very tiny contacts which have to be soldered and at the same time press the switch to check it out, so I removed the switch and soldered in another one - only to find it was just the same !

Hello: We’re sorry for your issues. Based on this comment, we went back to the lab and tested the switches we supply. The reel is marked Normally open. Sure enough, they are normally open. So then I decided to test them on my Porsche key. They worked. Next I measured the Porsche switches I took off the working key. They also are normally open. We suggest that whatever the issue, it likely isn’t the switches. -Bryan Thompson / BATEE.com

@Andy Haros Your key is not defect at all, read your Porsche manual, after 5 days of not using the keys central locking keys it will shut off due to power saving of the battery. This means that you havent opened your car for 5 days or more. The shut off process is completely normal. As soon as you open the car the "old fashion way" and put the key in the ignition and turn the ignition it will work again you will see. Normally if you drive every day you will never have this but as said completely normal. As soon as it stand for more then the 5 days it goes into power save mode. As decribed in the car manual ;-)

M Vogelsang you're incorrect. These fail very easily. It has nothing to do with the stand by status that the cars go in to if they haven't been used.

The 5 day (7 day?) "power save mode" would not impact the LED on the key. If the LED does not light up there is a problem with the electronics of the key fob like battery, switch etc.

I just finished watching your video and thank you for the easy to follow tutorial. I need to ask you a question to see if replacing the switches would fix my problem or if it is something else. I replaced the battery on the fob of my 2002 boxter twice. The first time the fob worked well for about a week and then stopped. I changed the battery again, but did not fix the problem. I noticed on your video that when finished, your fob's light was blinking rapidly the whole time you held the button. Mine blinks only once no matter how long i hold it. It is the same for all 3 switches. Blinks on, and immediately off. That's it. What do you think? Switches, circuit board, battery again? Thank you
