Awesome job with the porsche swap , now that you've kicked butt with the drags your next challenge should be the track, Youdve blown all those cars away easily at the track. Thanks for the videos

Were you on stock axles?
@random8164 жыл бұрын
During the 1/2 mile runs they were brand new cheap aftermarket axles. My original Porsche axles never broke, but the CVs were worn out and causing vibration issues. Ultimately still had that problem with aftermarket axles too as the ball bearings would dig into the outer CV housing in a relatively short amount of miles... around 3000 or so. If I did another one of these projects I would either get new factory axles ($900 each) then dismantle them and cryo treat and harden the CVs... Or I would most likely spend a little extra money ($3500~) to have custom axles made to not have to worry about it. That said a few people have told me they have used stock axles without issue, 1 with approx 600 hp but the others with less HP then my car~

sorry for you lose, i think brand new pair of axle cost $1500 , have u considering buy used on ebay? it`s been almost 2 years, how many set of half drive axle have u replaced? i `m also looking for use renegade kit for my 987 CS , heard some folks saying the angle of the axle is causing a lot of problem , he have to replace it every 3 months for 80%daily 20% track driving, is it sure? any reply would be much appereicate

Hi Paul, I ended up finding. good aftermarket set of ales which never gave me any further issues. I think as long as you are not abusing them, IE standing drag race starts like I did this day then you are fine. I drove on the last ones for over a year and they are still on the car with out issue. Also to answer your other question yes the ABS still work. thanks! J

Thank you so much for the depth reply! the major concern i`m holding off the order from renegade is the axle problem, i feel so relieve now! could u give me their business name ? and by the way how much did u paid for it? looking forward to get my car done this year car sat in the shop since last Sep i blow the motor.... i'm outside the states, it`s almost impossible to find a shop can make custom driveshaft.. good luck with the new project!

You're welcome Paul. No need for custom driveshafts, just get the axle spacers for the 996 automatic transmission. I have them listed on my thread on 986forum.com but they are factory pieces. The axles are made by a company called Drive Shaft Source - not to be confused with The Drive Shaft Shop in NC - they are very expensive. The Drive Shaft Source ones came through the distributor SSF Auto Parts so you will need to find a dealer who uses them as they don't sell directly to the public. Let me know if you need any more help - good luck!

It makes me very happy to see you actually driving (the piss out of) your car the way it was intended to be driven! I can't believe you're still having axle issues. Do you think this one broke, or just popped out of the cup again? Let me know what you find out, as I have a vested interest in your solution as well. ;-)

+Andrew Bayley Yeah I'm pretty sure I shattered the CV joint this time as both sides boots are all in tact. The initial inspection showed the passenger side with quite a bit of play. Drivers side CV joint appears to be shattered as the axle just rolls around in the joint, boot not torn at all. I must say this one made a lot less noise when it came apart then the last 2! :p I'm probably going to head over to the shop today and mess with it. I'll get a video of the damage. I've contacted a company that makes high HP axles for the 911TTs but they don't offer anything off hand so i'll have them make it to custom specs and eliminate the spacers.

did u eventually bought the high HP axles? if yes, how much did it cost?

Was this 1/4 mile? What was your best time?
@random8168 жыл бұрын
This was actually a half mile drag race, unfortunately that did not record ET's but from my videos it is about 20 seconds to cover the 1/2 mile, running consistent 142 MPH~
