I just bought a 2008 manual base Cayman with 83000 miles. I love it, and deliberately wanted one with higher mileage for the reasons you pointed out. It has been broken in. If you are thinking of buying one, they are an amazing car, fun to drive, handle superbly and are a quick car. The mid engine gives you a whole different experience.

That’s it. I’m buying a 987.1 caymna S. FSH, not imported. Sold and serviced at a Porsche dealer in Auckland. Going to get me some smiles :)

Don't know about high mileage, but I've put almost 10,000 miles on my base Cayman that I bought with 60,000 miles and it's been a dream. Love the car, and only issue I had with it was AC failure.

So glad you are using it as intended. Maybe the condensers failed which is due to leaves getting in, best to install a mesh/grill in front of them

Just the video that I needed to see. It is a fact that problematic cars have a lot more owners. Because each owner was so fed up with all the issues they have to deal with, versus the satisfaction of the ownership. 13 years one owner, it says it all.

Porsche’s tend to go through a lot of owners, unfortunately it’s not easy to find examples with 1-2 owners. We normally see a Porsche owner changing a car every 1-2 years.

I own a 2006 Cayman S that now has 105,000 miles on it. It's great. I had a full inspection done at around 90,000 miles and the engine was in perfect shape. One big factor in considering the higher mileage cars is that if they make it to 80 or 100 thousand miles, you know that many of the scariest issues, especially the IMS bearing, are not going to be issues. When the shop was doing the inspection of my car (it was done at a highly respected Porsche race shop) they told me that high-mileage Caymans were the way to go. Many of the issues that plague these cars are because of the fact that they are garage queens and the lack of driving can cause things to dry out and potentially break. When I asked them what I should do to keep it in good shape they said to keep up with the maintenance and to drive it hard because that's what they are designed for. Note that this advice does preclude hardcore track usage because there are a few things that need to be sorted if it is going to be a hardcore track car running on racing tires (mainly potential oil starvation issues in constant high-g cornering). That said, I have had to do quite a few maintenance things in the last 5 years/25k miles, including a brake job, and a clutch replacement. The only non-maintenance repairs have been a leaking vacuum seal in the transmission and the shifter cable broke. All in on maintenance and repairs it has probably cost me about $4k-$5k over 5 years. Which is lower than expected if you go by the "Don't buy a Porsche unless you can budget $2k a year for maintenance/repairs" advice, which I think is good advice.

A high mileage Porsche will always be better looked after because Porsche owners are actually car guys and not posers

This is very true for Porsche . We have seen plenty low mileage ones needing a ton to work. Do you have a Porsche atm?

Just picked up a 2006 S with 44k on it, have yet to do a borescope (yikes) I may not have gotten the "deal" I thought. Just crossing my fingers now. Guess I'll know soon enough as my mechanic will do all that and more to see where I stand. I have 3 other cars and divide the driving up between them all. But being semi-retired I have time and I do enjoy driving.

Buy a used cayman because it is "well run in" and you "hope they did the maintenance" 😂 Literally all reasons NOT to buy a car. yes, this is a great car buying strategy. Actually, I am looking for a 300k mile cayman as we speak, it must be like new with miles like those!

There is a balance but in our experience some of the low mileage cars needed most maintenance. Ask in Porsche community and they will tell you higher miles are often better maintained than low mileage

@@invictusporsche I'm more drawn to the 981 aesthetics and the lack of age. What mileage or year would you suggest for one of those. I do feel the 987 possibly feels a bit smaller and more nimble and like that it has a real handbrake and more steering feel though. What do you think?

Ha, full of assumptions that "he" will have done the maintenance.😅 Trust a Porsche driver to say "return on investment" some of the wealthiest people I know treat their cars the worst. P.s. nice joey outfit. I'm just messing. Some valid points.

Haha thanks for the comments. You are right tho the rich don’t always treat cars right. We know who we buy the cars off and are careful in that regard.
