Mark. Your videos of your Cayman are spot on. As you said on another video concerning the base model, one word encapsulates the 987 Porsche Cayman; "sublime". I owned one very similar to yours for 3 years. Selling it was the sorriest day of my automotive life. I have had many great sports cars in my 60 years. Many of them far more powerful and expensive. Not one of them compares to the Cayman base model. They are made to be driven and if anything, over engineered. There are no negatives. Issues are minor, and looking after one is actually a joy. When I parked it, I always looked back at it as I was walking away. I always had a smile driving it, and it never let me down. I would never dream of owning a newer model and the 987s are the last of the great accessible Porsches. My advice to all who view this channel is to find a good one that was loved and driven. Pour over the service records, and if you need peace of mind of having it professionally evaluated, then by all means do so. You find a good one, just pull the trigger and take it home. You will never, ever regret it.

Hats off to the editor/film/production crew for putting together another brilliant video! I consulted a well known specialist in the States before purchasing mine and they stated they have yet to see an IMS failure or bore scoring issue on the BASE 987 Cayman. Apparently the internal bits and pieces of the base motor differ from the “S” variant.

Just bought a 30k miles 2007 2.7, running on 18's, valved sports exhaust & sports filter fitted. The sound is blood curdling, the handling awesome. I tried the S, the base is just as quick if worked hard & it loves being pushed. 240 bhp is plenty on the Welsh mountain passes where I live. I've owned 3 911's, this is so much more fun.
@MarkCup70 Жыл бұрын

@@MarkCup70 Your videos are spot on, I lived near Horsham up until October last year so I know all the roads well. The valved exhaust was only £800 + VAT + fitting. It was done by Spyder Performance/Eporsch in Bisley, my mate Roly owns the company, I'm sure he would give you a discount if you did a video on it. Roly has measured over a 20bhp gain if fitted with the sports filter, it really does make a big difference & no droning with the valves closed even on my 5 speeder. Worth every penny.

Not that thier is anything wrong with that but these cars are brilliant as they sit from the Factory!. When i got my 997 I was like man i am going to do this and that And honestly I was blown away on how good it is as abase 997c2! You just confirm that!! Especially with the base Cayman!! Just picked up my 2005 Cayman S w/ 49k kms. Options include Sports Plus seats, sports Cronos, PASM, NAVI and Sports steering wheel. It’s so rare to find one fully loaded and was owned by an enthusiast who kept the car clean in a garage w/ records. Flat 6 purrs like a kitten. $37k cdn was more than some with 130k kms for $30k cdn. I just bought a 987.1 2007 base manual Cayman with 36,000 miles. It complements my tuned 991.2 PDK cab (with almost 500 crank hp). I had a 987.1 base manual Boxster that I owned for almost 10 years that loved but I traded in for the 911 in 2019. I love the 911 but missed the naturally aspirated manual hydraulic steering car. So now I have one! I really believe that the 987s are one the last truly analog Porsches. I think the values of well maintained ones will go up over the next 10+ years though I’m driving mine and it isn’t meant to be an investment.

Hi Mark, I bought a 2007 Cayman 2.7 and I agree 100% with all your comments. However, what do you know about the 6305 non serviceable IMS? Should I be relaxed if the maintenance has been done strictly? No issues if I track it? Now mine is 150.000 kms = 93200 miles.

Very informative video. I follow another owner who has a 987 Cayman and he noticed smoke on startup and excessive oil consumption which turns out he had bore scoring. No noisy tapping from the engine and the smoke / oil was the only signs of the problem. Anyway, I am looking to buy either a boxter or cayman at some point in the near future and this has been really helpful. I've never been a fan of convertible cars hence the reason I'm leaning more towards a cayman. Do you prefer your cayman to the Focus & M140i? I've followed your channel since you had the Focus RS and I like the thoroughness of your information.

@MarkCup702 жыл бұрын
They're kind of incomparable Rob. The 140 is a very fast 1-series with a ton of power and some blue brakes, the Cayman is a sports car designed to be great to drive from the outset. If you need back seats, not much beats the 140 in my opinion. If I did, I would have another. If you don't, for what they cost to buy and run, not much beats the Cayman.
