My opinion of course only from the videos is, that the long gearing is not bad at all. It gives the car more stability on power while exiting the corner. With shorter gears you may be too busy actually fighting the short 2nd-3rd gear oversteer. Kill me internet.

It's still going to be more lively and fun with shorter gearings. More fun and lively than a 911.

+nonickname100 Totally depends on how you are using the car. In the main place this car will be used, the street. The long gearing just would not be nearly as fun or engaging as a shorter ratio box

+nonickname100 That's all very true but you should also remember with a high revving naturally aspirated engine you would want to be able to keep it in the power and torque band constantly (on track) a shorter or even a closer ratio box would make doing that much easier. Corner exit wheel spin and oversteer should rather be managed with throttle and steering input.

No you are right I have a MKVII Golf R 6-speed and its got pretty short gearing, oversteer aside its kind of annoying purely because you have to shift so often, I find myself having to grab 4th or 5th on long fast sweepers which is kind of an event when you're full throttle on bumpy uneven pavement, lol. Upside is the car is faster and feels really lively.

Greate review Jethro. Very inspirational. I still think that your track comparison between the P1 and 918 is still one of the most significant in recent memory. You were really the first prominant journalist who stood behind the Porsche when almost all others were claiming that it was the 'poor cousin' of the Trilogy (like Top Gear's review stated). Strange how opinion has changed since your review, were most will now accept the accomplishment that the 918 truly is..

dhns555 It is on the suspension side yes. But the Spyder is actually very close to the GT4 times on many tracks. (Car Magazines in germany pointed some out where the Spyder is like 0.2 sec slower than a GT4) So you can definitely compare them.

Why? It takes away an element of human error but a skilled driver should be just as quick. It has no place on a GT4 in my opinion.

ClintWestmetal88 yet that's why Porsche owners are the most likely people to track their car, and I'm very sure this car is amonst the most tracked Porsches there will be. A corvette ZR1 or a Dodge VIper would easily have even longer gearing. Nobody complained about that. If you want a car that you needed shifting a lot, you can get a miata, or a Lorry.

ClintWestmetal88 Yeah I understand that too, but cars are getting faster and faster, while speed limits don't budge. If you really want to work the hell out of the gear box to get to 60mph, then you'd have to get a hot hatch or a miata I guess.
