Great POD and enjoyed Mark's story and knowledge. I agree on the stepping back a model or 2. I felt that about the 992, I think the 991 was a better car.

A Porsche owner since 1997 with 964/993/997/981/Boxster/Cayenne I have walked away from the brand after I was told I’d be 100th on the wait list for GT3 when dealer had allocation of 7. Bought McLaren instead ; 6 years later I’m still happy with that 570. Went to OPC Guildford last week and they have new cars on forecourt; GT4RS spider at list price. Market bubble has burst people; no overs no more sucking up to salesmen. At race track yesterday and all GT3’s were being driven by “youngsters” whom clearly had financed their purchases and so were being mostly gentle mobile debt. Prices of 964/993 bewildering…. Deffo nothing compared to 997/991. Madness.

I’m sorry you feel so hurt but there’s thousands of rich people in line to buy these cars. They could care less about your feelings.

Had the same experience with dealers @jonathancollard3710. I've been promised a GT3 allocation numerous times having owned 17 Porsches. In my case its nothing to do with hurt feelings it has to do with being lied to and misled to try and get me to buy more cars. As a customer I expect to be dealt with in an honest way. They talk about building a relationship to get a GT3 but the relationship I've found is a one way street. So I've not turned my back on Porsche I currently own four. Rather I've moved on from GT3 and feel like a weight is lifted. Like most Porsche customers we love the cars but the dealers are, well.... I can't write that here.

@ your comment says more about your “feelings” than mine. Indeed, I didn’t express any feelings, just observations based upon 30 years of sports/super car ownership. To paraphrase “those that can, do / those that can’t, talk”… or to be exact sadly seem keen to become sad, pathetic keyboard warriors such as yourself. As you said, wealthy people can buy as they wish. Ergo, why I also have a Ferrari in my garage… you clearly have little external simulation and a narrow perspective.
@davidowen28598 күн бұрын
@@jonathancollard3710Understand where you're coming from. I'm on my 17th Porsche and have been promised a GT3 allocation so many times. They tell you that your building a relationship but the relationship is a one way street. I still love the cars but the dealerships are something else. I currently have 4 Porsches but just bought a 488GTB and have the GT3 out of my system which feels liberating. They can play their games without me.

@jonathancollard3710 Thanks for sharing. Which Ferrari do you have? Which of your current and past cars have given you the most joy to own and drive? I often wonder about a McLaren or a GT3, but I remind myself that I am happy enough with my current cars, I don't need to be that guy who changes cars every year or two. I suggest you use a different dealer to the one you mentioned. South London is a good one. I may be close to you, yet that journey is worth it.

Amazing to hear someone of this stature say the 996 3.4 is less reliable than the 3.6. That is complete nonsense. The 3.6 has the final, most unreliable small single-row bearing and is very score prone. The 3.4, especially the eraly 3.4, doesn't score. The very early 3.4 also has the double row bearing, which is a bit more reliable. Personally, I prefer the 3.6 996 to the 3.4, but the idea it's more reliable doesn't bear any scrutiny at all.

The 911 GT RS and the 911 RS are being built as many as production allows but the numbers show that the Turbo is actually a lower production number; buy a turbo used and you are going to smile short and long term

The gen 1 996 is the only reliable one. The 3.4 engine does not bore score and has a strong IMS bearing. Many on. 200k miles plus including mine. The ones after all fail.

What’s disappointing to me is Porsche has gone fully woke - at least in the USA. They are punishing loyal customers wanting to buy new higher trim 911s. Most all the new sales go to speculators, who abuse them for 6 to 12 months, then flip them back to the dealer. They, then mark them up $60,000 to $100,000, selling them as preowned. This can be done because they purposely limit production volumes of the GTS, Turbo, and GT3. So much so that there’s no new models available on the dealer lots and no allocations available to order. What there are plenty of is the EV models. There are literally hundreds of these rotting on the lots with no buyers. In fact, the dealers will not take a Taycan on trade-in! So, here I am retired, near the end of my driving career and prepared to write a $300k check for a new turbo s, but I’ve been told to pound sand or buy an EV. I reckon I’ll have to look at something else - maybe a Roma or the Mercedes GT 63….sad actually Porsche are trying their best to ruin the company.

I’ve played their game for the last time. After 25 years of 911s including 3 GT3s I moved to Lamborghini and bought a new Huracan. I’m excited to not have to play their games. I’ve got more power more style and more fun. And Porsche can ruin their own company

Look, I don’t doubt your struggle, but how in the glorious fuck is any of what you wrote, “woke”?
@ChewyHighHAD8 күн бұрын
Woke? "Woke" would be allocating cars to first time buyers with lower income at a reduced rate to introduce new people to the brand. What dealerships are doing is allocating cars to their best customers who have a long purchase history with them and always trade in these cars to the dealership to get the new model. Or, selling to those who skip the line by paying up above MSRP. Want a heavily depreciated Porsche with low demand and lower price tag? Buy an EV, like you said. That is the least "woke" most capitalist thing that can be done. The upper class in our country have done VERY well from Obama's first term forward--look at S&P returns. Demand is high, especially in the last several years of market explosion. You can get a slightly used Turbo S below MSRP almost anywhere in the country. Or you can wait a few months to get an allocation, or you can skip the line to get an allocation above sticker. Porsche is a publicly traded company, which means share price is priority. They are pumping out as many vehicles within the confines of legislation (US, Euro, and abroad) as they possibly can to remain profitable now and in the foreseeable future.

What has any of this got to do with “woke”? This comment is the epitome of the “everything I don’t like is woke” meme?

NOPE re 996.1 vs 996.2 "safer". Hartech in UK say 3.4 first yr cable throttle 0 bore score; Flat6Inmovations USA says it's their fab 996. Now 3.4 w egas not as exciting and the 3.6 has notably more torque one can feel. Alas, Damocles Sword always hanging over engine. Bought mine at bottom of mkt 8 yrs ago 2016, 2 owner full records, and I've spent at least $24k on it. Expensive to me, still less expensive than if I'd paid extra $20k for 997.1 and still had threat of blown engine. Paragon UK warranty options sounds great; we don't have anyone like that in USA as I cam tell. FYI JayEmm KZbinr steadfastly maintains 996 have excellent steering.

funny all the mugs who bought mundane 4/5dr Porsches to get on the list for GT cars. When they did command a premium they lost a fortune on the other cars they bought and now they are losing money on all of them, Hopefully Porsche dealers are no longer so greedy and customers have seen through this and genuine owners are getting hold of the cars they want.
