Thanks for your video, Nick! As a 992 owner, and also EV owner, I agree with your analysis and option choices. I would add rear-wheel steering, as it does make low speed maneuvering easier (my BMW iX has it, and it does help). I think the Macan 4 EV would be an excellent replacement for my BMW i4 as a daily driver. If all is OK, I will wait until 2026 or 27 before switching, though; namely to give Porsche a chance to iron bugs out, and for it to switch to NACS connector. One piece of advice: own an EV while the battery is on warranty; it is expensive to replace. I had an HV battery fail on a Tesla, and thank god it was under warranty. Change the car before the warranty expires. But… Porsches are built like tanks; hopefully that extends to the EV powertrain as well.

The naming scheme is most likely because the ICE Macan will still be sold. Base Macan (ICE). Macan 4 (EV). Macan S (ICE). Macan GTS (ICE). Macan Turbo (EV).

@@russwright Electric vehicles in general are way less maintenance compared to regular engine ones. You could look up statistics for VW and Audi electric cars, and then maybe add a certain percentage extra to it for being a Porsche.

Nick: Thank you for your insight. We have a 2023 Base Cayenne with a heated windshield. I’ve never noticed any radar interference and Porsche has left clear spaces on both sides the windshield of the rear view mirror to place your transponder. It’s never had any issues either. Looking forward to your Macan EV test drive.

My local dealer has a dozen new Taycans in various trims and not one new 911. In Colorado, the used and new Taycans are everywhere on dealer lots but no 992's, unless it's a turbo S or a 300k GT3. I suspect the Macan will sell poorly as well. Cold weather range of EV's is not acceptable in states larger than Connecticut.

Happy New Year! Color "Provence" is Lilac, the signature flower of that French region. At first look online, I hadn't noted the loss of the clamshell hood; you're right, that is a shame, a missed design opportunity. And yes, one absolutely should opt for a snazzy color. This San Francisco Giants fan would love to tool around the SF Bay Area in a Papaya Macan EV-- er, Macan 4 (!). As always, keep up the good work!

Great vid as always Nick, an extra inch in the back would be great. Surely the Macan 4 is equivalent to your S? It's waaay cheaper. Not sure why you would want a 600+ bhp small suv anyway, unless you regularly drag race a neighbours model Y performance; so spec the 4 and then the price difference will surely be less? (unless the standard equipment is that bad on the 4, but I bet its still the one to get).

OK, Nick. I have a number of questions about the information you presented. First of all, I'm not aware that LED-matrix headlights have become "full featured" in the U.S. A recognized authority in the vehicle lighting industry recently told me that this has not and is not going to happen and that the U.S. NHTSA is going quite a different direction with their headlight standards. But that still doesn't mean that the adaptive features of LED-matrix can't be enabled. I had someone enable full adaptive functionality of the LED-matrix headlights on my Cayenne last summer and they now work like those in Europe which is pretty wonderful. Second, is the rear wiper really not available with the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option? It has been that way on the 911 but are you certain it is that way on the Macan? (Edit: Yes, Nick is correct. Unlike the Cayenne, one must choose between the rear wiper and the Insulated Glass option.) For example, my 2022 Cayenne has both a rear wiper and the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option. The Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option provides a noticeable reduction in traffic noise. I notice every time I get a loaner Macan without it how loud surrounding traffic is. Thirdly, does the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass really reduce phone reception? Do you know why there has never been a caution about this for Europe but there has been for the U.S.? Could it be that CDMA cell phones haven't been used in Europe but have been in the U.S. (e.g. Verizon, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and some smaller companies) - at least until the end of 2022 when CDMA was supposedly discontinued in the U.S. although there could still be some small podunk rural cell phone companies still using it. There is absolutely no reduction in cell phone reception in my Cayenne with Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass. Also, on windshields with Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass and on heated windshields, there is a fairly large area at the top center for mounting electronic devices. My toll road transponder works fine when stuck to the inside of the windshield in this area. I can't imagine buying a Macan EV. We don't have space for a limited use city car. Even the longest range, most expensive Lucid doesn't begin to cut it here in middle America unless one plans his life around it.

Nick, another really interesting video, thanks! My comment is NOT about the car, I would never pay the “Porsche Tax” so this car is yet another place for the self indulgent to waste their money. My comment is about solar panels - JUST DO IT!!! I live on the south coast of NSW and have had roof-top solar for about four months. Electricity bills are more than half what they were for the same time last year and over that time the cost of electricity in NSW has risen more than 35%. So it’s a no-brainer. A home battery will only make economic sense if you have an EV and do most of your charging at home. I hope that helps. Regards, Peter

I paid $50k for a new Tesla model 3 performance in late 2019. Sedan that is practical, awd, and goes 3 seconds to 60mph. It now has 48,000 miles and I just sold it for $33k. Not sure why all the hate for EV depreciation, I don’t think I would have done any better buying an ice car.

Perhaps ICE Macans will not do as well as say 718 caymans, as it's different purpose and different buyer profile.

The clock on the dash now comes standard, with or without Sports Chrono. Personally I like Sports Chrono for petrol cars. For EVs... They seem unnecessary, with the instant acceleration even in the normal setting.

I've seen KZbin videos where, on other makes and models, such replacement can cost up to $50,000 USD. At the end of the day, to own any EV, it's very expensive on repairs, insurance & maintenance. What would be the point. The battery is warranted for 8 years at a minimum of 80% of original capacity. It is bit asking to Nick to find out the cost of replacing the engine in an ICE car. Yes, on rare occasions an ICE engine fails to the point of needing to be replaced

I'm not an EV guy, but my brother in law is. His research shows around $10K-$12K on average to replace batteries in most EVs (he looked at Tesla, GM, Nissan, Ford, and BMW, but not Porsche) at roughly 10 years of age, depending on how you drive the car and where you live (cold weather will shorten overall battery life some). Hence the typical 8 year warranty.

I’m not seeing as big of a delta compared to the ICE macan. First, I think even the base version will be as quick or quicker than the ICE S. When I configured them similarly I ended up at 82k for the ICE and 91k for the EV. That included some features unavailable on the ICE version like massaging seats and that gorgeous oak green paint. There’s a good chance that Porsche will continue to offer the 7500 lease credit on this as they do the taycan making the prices even closer. So all in all - not so bad!

At least the EV won't have all the parts that failed on our MacanS (transmission - $19,800, valve cover oil leak - $6900, transfer case $6k?). Thank you extended warranty! Not having the 2 Spd transmission is a plus over the Taycan, IMO. One less major part to break. As for sound insulation glass- it is an EV so you'll hear everything.

EV batteries last longer than a Porsche engine, on average. You can get 200-500K miles out of a Tesla battery and by the time you have to worry about them the costs will be way down anyway.

Always love your videos. No way I would pay that kind of money for a Macan. I paid a bit over 130 grand for a nicely optioned 991.2 C2s back in 2016 but the 911 has an enduring appeal. The car is still so beautiful and I still love driving it. Not so for any Macan. I love electric for around town and shorter trips. We have a much cheaper Model Y for that and we love it. I am keeping my eyes open to move on from Tesla to something nicer but for 130 grand the electric Macan is not it. Maybe the Lucid SUV? Not in any hurry as the electric car market is evolving so fast. The next big battery breakthrough will render current battery tech obsolete so resale will plummet. I hope Porsche does well with this new electric Macan, but not sure they will. The return on value is just not there.

Macans are so popular and glad to see some EV options now. I feel a luxury SUV is the perfect EV vehicle.

The jury is out if the electric Macon will be popular. It doesn't look any near as nice as the ICE Macon. And demand for electric is waning.
