Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons. We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced a pretty good ICE daily (older panamera turbo), and I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the panamera one bit. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), use of space (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, perfectly even weight distribution, and even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. We bought our Jag used CPO, and yes we’ve lost money on its value - but the same would have been true of the panamera or a Jaguar f-pace ICE suv. All luxury cars / daily driver values are dropping right now. EVs may be dropping quicker, but you also spend less on fuel and maintenance to make up for it. The only maintenance on our Jag in two years is a cabin air filter. Having said all of that, we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an older Mini Cooper JCW), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great, but I have no interest, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever giving up gas for sports cars.
@POVwithRC11 ай бұрын
You seem to be sidestepping the problem. If you buy and promote EV ownership of any variety, you are indirectly bringing about the end of the thing you say you want to keep. Well said. I wonder if it´s going to be possible for Manufacturers like Porsche to build both in the future, EV for Macan, Taycan, Cayenne etc. and then ICE for Carrera, Cayman etc. or if it is too expensive for companies to offer both technologies. So, the same formula as always for the Macan which indicates that it is a successful program.

Out of spec reviews said that when he interviewed the Audi engineers for Q6 e tron, they claimed they did the vast majority of the engineering on the platform compared to Porsche. Predictably, the Porsche engineers claim that isn't the case.
@LZ6U11 ай бұрын
Porsche deserves some credit for taking an Audi platform and giving it a more sporting character. Porsche has been making cars from Audi parts since the 70's, VW parts since day 1. Porsche's volume products have been re-engineered VW or Audi parts. The 914, 924/944, Cayenne, and Macan have gone a long way to keep Porsche alive. Porsche's Boxster borrowed a gearbox from the boring Audi B/C platforms. To make the Macan a differentiated product, I'm certain Porsche's calibration targets were different from Audi's. Porsche worked on marketing, styling, systems calibration/optimization. The hard points as they are known are quite certainly Audi. The Macan is reciprocity for the e-tron GT. Try to find an Audi logo on the parts used in assembly of the e-tron GT. Under the e-tron GT all you'll find are Porsche logos. @@pan4632

I know the answer is just "Because we have to change the least things from the gas version" but I'd love to know if these companies have plans to do more with hub motors, especially now that we are seeing lighter and lighter powerful motors with things like axial flux motors coming into the lime light so there are less worries or tradeoffs with unsprung weight. It feels like a really great chance to for once significantly lower the weight of these vehicles while making the interiors more spacious, so that is one of the bigger EV changes Im waiting to happen. I feel as if this whole thing of having body mounted motors is really just a thing while we are in this transition phase. No doubt the future EV sportscars that will feel the best will switch to this to add lightness.

One of the best videos of Mark and Jack. Congratulations for the production.

3:05 - as a former MK7 Golf R owner, I definitely got Golf (VAG) vibes seeing the rear hatch hardware, seats, etc. Amazing how that design language doesn't change much.

SG is the benchmark of reviews. Porsche is the benchmark of automotive engineering. This was such a joy to watch.

Incredible video yet again from the savagegeese team. The go-to to understand the engineering behind cars and to get beautiful b-roll along the way.

I didn’t think I could not care about the Macan more than I already did but an EV version certainly managed to do that for me. 😂😂

The car is fairly forgettable in normal guise, but as a porsche can still get ridiculously expensive. If you have the money why not get a the hot hatch, but its a crazy choice of car at spec

As someone who owned about 10 gas powered cars (BMW, Acura, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda) since I got my license almost 20 years ago, currently own a C7 Grand Sport and been dailying a 2019 Model 3 for nearly 4 years, an EV daily cannot be beat for those of us who's lifestyle and charging supports it. The Tesla has been the best daily overall, with the caveat that we still have my Wife's Mazda for long road trips. I was excited about the Macan EV, but I think the price is going to be high (70K+), so I ended up putting a deposit in on a 24 Model Y Performance. Regardless, excited to see how this comes out. Thanks for the very informative video.

porsches ice prowess isnt translating to EV. their dealer tactics dont engender much repeat sales either. buying process way easier w tesla than porsche lol

In Finland, couple of insurance brokers stopped insuring Porsche and Audi ev-s because of high cost of battery replacements. I have a hunch these will be in the same category soon enough.

Great interview! You managed to make a Porsche engineer nervous with some of your questions.😆

I think he was surprised to see somebody who was very knowledgeable and that came up with very pertinent questions. I also appreciate Jack being very clear and detailed which help a non native English speaker understand him fully. A great interview indeed and one that the Porsche representative will remember too.

3:29 I like how they said there’s more room in the back seats but there’s quite literally 0 chance that anyone is going to be comfortable back there for more than 10 minutes.

it looks like the driver chair was far back or something maybe? I have the ICE macan with the current sized wheelbase and it's... I mean, it's a small SUV, but it feels more livable than that clip looked. I can sit in the backseat behind my driving position and it's _okay_. 80mm extra (if it all went to that length alone) would feel maybe more like a cayenne's knee space

The word “dynamic” used to mean “changeable”. After listening to the word salad from the Porsche spokesperson, I consulted a dictionary and see that in physics and computing, it now means anything that you want it to, but generally it is a positive attribute relating to the application of force. It’s a good thing Jack was there to answer his own questions. My favourite exchange - Jack: Why does this vehicle not have PDCC?; Porsche spokesperson: We’re not going to discuss that. At least this video was better than the Official Porsche reveal video from Singapore this morning. That video starred a young artistic curator, who learned how to collect art from her parents. The video was telling because it showed the aspirational customer this product is aimed at.

Sad when Savagegeese who always have a point of view and are respected for that authenticity play the manufacturer PR/Marketing game. It doesn’t matter if it’s Porsche or Toyota it comes over as an infomercial. You surely know this. Surely! We feel the pain to imagine how it feels when you put on a suit to go test drive a car. It wasn’t always this way. It must be hard to balance compromise for access.
